Ethan’s eyes sparkled with satisfaction as he went over each of those upgrades, a subtle smile forming on his lips.

It was a shame the instant-build ability hadn’t been improved as well, but for now, he could be content with what he had.

Settling onto a stone bench in the palace’s massive front courtyard, beneath the cool shade of a leafy tree, Ethan crossed his arms and drew a slow, deep breath.

First, his attention turned to the regional scan ability. It was one of the most useful tools in his arsenal, and one every Golden Lord also possessed.

The moment he activated it, the fifty settlements surrounding Goldenveil unfolded before his eyes, along with various other points of interest, all displayed in far greater detail than before.

There was data on the population, the armed forces, the number of inhabitants who could be called up in a desperate recruitment drive, as well as each city’s special resources.

Nothing in particular caught his attention, except for one elven city.

With a population of just over ten thousand souls, it boasted a massive production of elven silver, along with rare jewels, including those used for magical inlays.

Located just thirty kilometers from Goldenveil, on the shores of Lake Azur, it was, without a shadow of a doubt, a city Ethan would keep under his control, regardless of whether the elves submitted peacefully or not.

A shrewd gleam flashed across his eyes as he filed that information away in the back of his mind.

After studying over the other changes for a few more moments, he finally rose to his feet, leaving the palace behind and heading toward Goldenveil’s residential area.

He still had one construction improvement use left before the end of the month, and since he was rich again, he could finally put his theory about housing complexes to the test.

Upon reaching the first house he saw—belonging to a farmer—Ethan pressed his palm against the rustic wooden wall, closing his eyes for a moment as the rough grain of the timber pressed into his skin.

Ron’s employees would also need new homes soon enough, so it only made sense to make some improvements in advance. That way, they would feel comfortable from day one.

Activating the instant-build ability in improvement mode, Ethan watched as tens of millions of distinct house designs unfolded before him.

There were no modern houses like those on Earth.

All of them followed a medieval fantasy style, though the variety was staggering, ranging from elven and dwarven to human designs, and even those of races Ethan hadn’t known existed.

After tweaking the filters a bit, he finally managed to narrow the search down to housing complexes alone, cutting the list to a mere ten options.

Searching for a comfortable complex that would fit well in Goldenveil and had no walls, he found the perfect one almost instantly.

[Name: High-Level Commoner Housing Complex

Description: A housing complex for commoners created by a great emperor of the past as part of an experiment on the quality of life for peasants.

It is a medium-density complex, featuring homes, parks, and commercial establishments interspersed throughout.

Up to five different architectural styles can be chosen.

Each house has basic levels of magic arrays and can be powered by magic cores or connected to a magic vein.

Note: When selecting this building in improvement mode, you must specify the number of houses to be built. A number lower than the current number of houses in the surrounding area will cause the nearest houses to be upgraded. A higher number will upgrade all houses and build new ones.

Price per house: 100 gold coins (varies depending on the house’s quality level).]
