Chapter 43: The Road Begins
The journey to find the recommended beasts had begun. They were going to a thick forest on the great outskirts of the city. It wasn’t the one they landed in; this one was way more dangerous. Just looking at it brought weird vibes all over Leo.
Vegor was speaking the whole way, saying just how good his experience with a tangible body had been. From falling asleep to going to the bathroom, his experience was top-notch. Leo wasn’t quite listening to what his subordinate was saying. In his ears, he only heard non-stop mumbling. His mind was already full with the list in his hands.
’Some of these things are crazy. What would you even do with this?’
He wondered as he stared at a certain type of beast called the Horsefire that had a golden penis as the most crucial element of its body. Just thinking of the name already brought a rough picture of how it might turn out to look.
Suddenly, not too far down the road was a group of three people, two men along with one woman. They wore adventurer’s costumes that overlapped with protective gear, but once again, none of them were human.
They looked completely busy conversing with each other as the woman drew on the ground what was going to be their supposed plan for their own type of hunt.
Leo’s human instincts flared, urging him to talk to them or at least converse with them in any way, but the shop owner’s advice stopped him midway.
"Before you go, I just want to advise you , not to trust anyone."
Even though he said that, how did he think they were going to identify these beasts since the list only had names and no images?.
When leo asked him about the images of the beast he said the price for getting a drawing was just too steep for him to pay, so he left them with no choice.
’Vegor, we have to join them.’
’But, Master, I thought the shop owner said we shouldn’t trust anyone.’
" If we dont get acquainted to this place, we will fall under his plan.’
’How so, Master?’
’Imagine this. We kill a beast with a big golden dick and bring him the weird parts. If he says we killed the wrong animal, we can’t really deny his claims.’
’You have such a bright mind, Master.’
Vegor screamed inside his head.
With that, they had agreed to join the new crew, if the three would have them, that is.
As the two got closer to them, the voices of the squad began to filter through.
"We gotta corner it here on the boundary with the river."
The woman pointed at the plan of the forest she had drawn in the sand with the stick.
So, without being too needy or suspicious, Leo tried to break a deal with them, but they outright denied him. Yeah, that’s what happened to the poor souls. The moment they heard that Vegor and Leo were new here, the three ended the conversation immediately without even giving them a reason to speak further.
So, denied and speechless, the two went deeper into the freaky forest, searching for anything to kill. They moved for a whole hour without coming across anything other than birds and six-legged lizards that, at a certain point, after hunger got the best of him, Vegor killed and roasted with his Flaming Nucleus skill.
The aroma of the end product was amazing, looking and smelling like roasted beef at a barbecue on a hot Sunday. Something Leo never ate since his parents died.
With hesitation, Leo took a single bite out of the juicy lizard meat. As he chewed, it felt more sleek in his mouth, the heat and meat mixing together perfectly until he swallowed.
Almost immediately—
Bwa!!
He started to vomit repeatedly, leaving Vegor to finish the whole meat by himself while saying, "I’m sorry, Master," the whole time with a fake sympathetic tone in his words.
"I said don’t call me that!"
Leo shouted at Vegor, who was chewing on the leftover bones.
Suddenly, a male shout disrupted their conversation.
"Help!!!"
Leo and Vegor froze for a second, trying to check again if what they heard was really real.
"Help!"
That second cry confirmed it.
With haste, they rushed towards the voice in the distance. They passed through some trees hogging the road until they finally arrived at the horrible sight.
A tall, muscular red ogre with a horn on its head was fighting against the team of three they met earlier. They were covered in their own blood, injured to their very core, but they had no choice but to continue fighting if they had any hopes of surviving.
Boom!!
It punched the ground, drilling an instant hole as it missed its opponent.
One of the men shot a laser from his hands at the ogre, but little to no damage happened to it. It only angered it more, causing it to punch and send him crashing into one of the trees.
And with that, they were two... no, wait.
The ogre sent the other man crashing into the tallest part of a nearby tree with its horn.
The woman looked around in fear. All her teammates had been picked apart like they were nothing.
Tsk.
She started cursing in ways that I cannot describe here, and with even more fury, the ogre rushed at her to finish the job.
"Fuck you Berold!"
Pow!!
Leo punched it, sending it crashing through some trees until it finally slammed into a big rock that stopped its momentum.
The woman couldn’t believe it. Her gaze trembled violently.
No matter how the three of them tried, they weren’t able to defeat it. But a little kid out of nowhere had managed to defeat it. It was almost impossible.
"Wait here. I will finish it."
Leo muttered before going towards the Berold that had fainted on the ground.
"I’m sorry, but you are on my list."
Using a blade he conjured in his hand, he cut off the Berold’s head, then pulled out the horn, which was the part he needed to collect from it.
"Why... how did you kill a Berold just like that?"
A Berold was a type of ogre that is created when they came across dark power that corrupted their soul, and they were strong enough to contain a little fragment of it. That’s why they were strong. That’s why she didn’t understand how he managed to defeat it so simply.
"There’s only one way you could’ve done this."
She muttered as if she was mad.
"You were thrown here by the Goddess of Suffering, weren’t you?"
