Chapter 564: Chapter 111: Bicycle Kick! Equaling a Legend! Consecutive Hat-tricks! Nesta, Our Duel Is Just Beginning
With the ball at his feet, he clapped his hands hard. "Get your heads in the game! Don’t fall back, push forward!"
...
Neuer’s rally had little effect.
Dortmund was soon on the attack again.
They had lost count of how many times it had happened.
How dire was Schalke 04’s situation?
By the 35th minute, they hadn’t even managed a single shot.
Led by Wang Shuo, Dortmund was putting suffocating pressure on Schalke 04.
And they quickly mounted another attack.
Four minutes later, Schmelzer made a quick run up the left flank. After receiving a pass from Reus, he charged straight for the left side just outside the penalty area.
The right-back from Japan, Uchida Atsushi, failed to block him off in time. Schmelzer exploited the opening and lofted a pass into the penalty area.
Wang Shuo had originally been making a forward run, heading for the front of the goal to get on the end of it.
He hadn’t expected Schmelzer to suddenly cross it, especially for it to land and bounce at the near post.
He had been trying to find Reus.
But Reus hadn’t pushed forward in time after making the pass, so no one was there to meet it at the near post.
By the time the ball reached the center, Wang Shuo had already overrun it.
But his reactions were quick. He immediately spun around and stuck out his foot.
In his haste, he used the inside of his left foot to stop the bouncing ball.
But the touch was too rushed. He had put his foot out hastily while turning, just trying to stop the ball, so the result wasn’t great—his touch was a bit heavy.
But even with the heavy touch, the ball didn’t leave Wang Shuo’s control.
The tall and long-legged Mertesacker immediately stuck out a foot, trying to clear the ball away.
Wang Shuo was faster. Beating him to it, he swung his right foot and flicked the ball up.
Just as he flicked it, Mertesacker’s attempted clearance kicked Wang Shuo’s boot, sending the ball high into the air.
In that instant, Wang Shuo really had no good options.
His first instinct was to control the ball, shield it, and then turn.
But just then, a flash of Spiritual Light sparked in his mind.
Wang Shuo made a split-second decision. He took a step forward, leaped into the air, flipped his body over, and quickly kicked out his right foot, meeting the falling ball with a bicycle kick!
Mertesacker and Hewedes were both startled by this sudden turn of events.
By the time the two reacted, it was already too late to stop him. All they could do was take a step closer to Wang Shuo, hands pressed tightly to their sides, using their bodies to block the angle of his shot as much as possible.
In a flash, Wang Shuo felt his right foot make contact with the ball, and he knew he had hit it cleanly.
The ball shot at incredible speed between the two center-backs, heading for the top-right corner of the goal.
The goalkeeper, Neuer, was also startled by this sudden development.
Plus, his line of sight was obstructed by Mertesacker and Hewedes. How could he have possibly expected Wang Shuo to pull off a bicycle kick?
By the time he reacted and dove sideways, the ball had already drilled into the Schalke 04 goal.
"GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!"
"1-0!"
"After 39 minutes of relentless attacks, Dortmund has finally broken the deadlock!"
"Wang Shuo opens the scoring for Dortmund with a spectacular bicycle kick!"
After scoring, an ecstatic Wang Shuo turned and sprinted towards the sideline.
He was met with the roars and cheers of the entire Westfalen Stadium, from more than 80,000 fans.
On the sideline, Klopp grabbed his hair with both hands in disbelief.
Throughout the first half, Dortmund had been utterly dominant.
But who would have thought the team would end up scoring with such an unconventional goal?
But it was absolutely brilliant!
"This kid is more and more unpredictable. He can really score any kind of goal!" Klopp laughed heartily as he turned and hugged Buvac and Krawietz.
He had started doing his signature three-punch celebration less often.
Mainly because it was too tiring!
You see?
With Wang Shuo scoring so many goals this season and Dortmund’s offense being a relentless tide, if Klopp performed a full set of punches for every goal, he would be more exhausted than the players on the pitch.
He was definitely out of shape!
But damn, it felt good!
...
For the entire first half, Schalke 04 only managed to create one shot, from a free kick in the attacking half near the end. And it was ridiculously off-target.
But after switching sides for the second half, Dortmund created another scoring opportunity just three minutes in.
Götze sent a chipped pass in behind the defense, and Wang Shuo made a quick forward run.
And then, the most exhilarating, and at the same time, most soul-crushing moment of the match appeared.
Despite being a step behind Mertesacker, Wang Shuo used his pure speed advantage to power past him, reaching the ball at the edge of the Schalke 04 penalty area and flicking it out to his right.
Mertesacker was stunned. He slammed on the brakes, trying to block Wang Shuo.
But in the next instant, Wang Shuo chopped the ball back to his left foot with his right, knocked it forward again with his left, and accelerated once more. Dribbling into the penalty area, he blew right past Mertesacker.
The unlucky German center-back, forced into a series of sharp stops and turns, lost his balance and slipped to the ground just outside the penalty area.
After bursting into the left side of the penalty area, Wang Shuo didn’t wait for Neuer to come out, unleashing a furious shot with his left foot that once again found the back of the Schalke 04 net.
2-0!
"A brace!!"
"Wang Shuo! It’s Wang Shuo again!"
"At a crucial moment, Wang Shuo scores a brace, giving Dortmund a two-goal lead!"
"Wang Shuo has scored in all three Ruhr Derbies this season, and he’s scored at least two goals in each one!"
