Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Azriel’s Runepad
Rosalind nodded approvingly, her posture shifting seamlessly back into that of the ruling Duchess. "Set it down, Karina."
The assistant stepped forward, placing the sleek black box onto the immaculate white surface of the desk with practiced precision.
She then pulled a small, glowing data-crystal from her breast pocket, placing it neatly beside the box.
"I have also compiled the comprehensive geographical maps of the Eastern Region and the basic political registries of the Sekhmet Empire as per your earlier administrative request, Madam," Karina stated, her eyes flicking toward Azriel for a brief second.
"The device has been pre-loaded with an elite-tier unrestricted network license, fully registered under the House of Bastet."
"Excellent. You may leave us," Rosalind dismissed her with a brief wave of her hand.
Karinan bowed deeply once more, her striped tail performing a disciplined arc before she turned on her heel and glided out of the office, the heavy white doors clicking shut behind her.
The moment the doors locked, the tense aura of the room evaporated.
Azriel didn’t waste a single second.
He reached out and grabbed the black box, sliding the lacquered lid off to reveal a gorgeous, hyper-slim device made of a polished, pristine white alloy. =
It was stunning, tracing the sleek edges were vibrant, violet rune-like lines that gave the hardware a striking, personalized edge.
It felt surprisingly light in his hand, cool to the touch, with intricate silver runes etched seamlessly along its chamfered borders.
"Go ahead, turn it on," Rosalind said, leaning back in her chair and watching him with a warm, indulgent expression.
Her tail gave a soft, pleased swish.
"I had it custom-made specifically for you. The white alloy represents your connection to me and my house, and the violet runes..."
She leaned forward slightly, her golden eyes softening. "...are the exact color of your beautiful eyes."
Azriel looked from the device up to her, a genuine spark of surprise crossing his face before a slow, touched smile pulled at his lips.
Azriel did as instructed, letting a tiny thread of his newly refined energy flow into the device.
Instantly, the silver runes along the edges flared with a brilliant blue light.
The dark glass screen woke up, projecting a crisp, high-definition holographic interface a few inches above the device.
A flood of localized information networks, imperial forums, and digital data arrays manifested right before his eyes.
’Oh, this is a total game-changer,’ Azriel thought, his inner gamer rejoicing as he rapidly scrolled through the floating tabs with practiced ease, his fingers dancing across the screen.
’No more dusty libraries. With this thing, I can map out every major power player in this empire while sitting comfortably in bed.’
He looked up at Rosalind, flashing her a brilliant, genuinely appreciative grin.
"You really outdid yourself with this one, Rose. It’s perfect."
Rosalind’s cat ears twitched happily at his praise, a smug, satisfied little smile gracing her lips
"Of course it is. Only the best for my little monster. But don’t stay up all night playing with your new toy, Azriel. Tomorrow at dawn, we are heading to the primary training grounds."
Azriel leaned back, sliding the sleek device into his pocket as a wicked, playful glint sparked in his violet eyes.
"Well, I am definitely going to stay up all night... but it’ll be with you, on your bed."
Rosalind’s cheeks instantly flared a brilliant pink.
She tried to distort her face into a fierce, intimidating glare, but the furious expression failed miserably against her heavy blush.
"Just wait," she retorted, pointing an accusatory finger at him while her tail thrashed angrily behind her chair.
"I am going to completely drain you all night, and this time, I won’t give you a single drop of healing potion! Let’s see how cocky you are when you can’t even stand up tomorrow morning!"
Seeing her try so hard to look terrifying, when she actually just looked incredibly cute with her red cheeks and twitching ears, Azriel couldn’t resist.
Moving silently, he slipped the Rune-Pad out of his pocket, swiftly opened the built-in visual capture app, and aimed the lens right at her. Click!
The sharp, digital shutter sound echoed clearly in the quiet office.
Rosalind froze. Realizing exactly what he had just done, her eyes snapped to the device.
"Delete that right now!" she commanded, her voice caught between a regal order and sheer embarrassment.
"No way," Azriel grinned, stepping backward. "This is a masterpiece."
"Azriel!" Rosalind lunged across the massive white desk, reaching out her long, slender hand to snatch the device from his grip.
Azriel anticipated the move, extending his long arm high above his head and twisting his body away.
They stumbled around the executive desk, laughing and wrestling in a chaotic tangle of limbs.
Rosalind kept grabbing at his waist and shoulders, trying to force his hand down, while Azriel used his height advantage to keep the Rune-Pad completely out of her reach.
Deep down, both of them knew the truth, if the Duchess actually wanted the device, she could have used a fraction of her oppressive Aether pressure to pin him to the floor instantly, or snapped it away with spatial magic.
But she didn’t.
She purposely kept her raw power entirely sealed, genuinely losing herself in the simple, breathless joy of flirting and messing around with him like a normal couple.
Realizing she couldn’t wrestle it away from him through normal means, Rosalind finally stopped, crossing her arms over her chest and glaring up at him with a thoroughly defeated, adorable pout.
"Fine! Just wait, you rogue. I am going to capture a much more embarrassing image of you when you’re completely at my mercy!"
"Sure, I’ll be looking forward to it," Azriel chuckled. Dropping his arm, he leaned down and planted a soft, lingering kiss right on her burning, red cheek.
Rosalind blinked, completely disarmed by the sudden tenderness.
She stared up at him, her lips parting as she mumbled, "You..."
Before he could flash another teasing smirk, her golden eyes darkened with a sudden, possessive hunger.
Her hand shot out, locking firmly around his wrist.
Without warning, a violent ripple of crimson Aether erupted from her body, tearing open the fabric of space.
In a flash of light, the office vanished.
Thud!
Azriel hit the mattress hard, the familiar scent of silk, sweat, and premium healing potions filling his senses.
They had instantly teleported right back to the center of her grand bedroom.
Before he could even shake off the spatial dizziness, Rosalind’s tall frame was already crawling over his lap, pinning his hips down to the mattress.
Her silver-white hair cascaded down around his face like a curtain, isolating them from the rest of the world.
Azriel looked up at her, a breathless laugh escaping his throat.
"Wait, Rose... look out the window. It’s not even night yet."
"So what?" she whispered, her golden eyes flashing with absolute, unyielding dominance.
Leaning down, she ruthlessly captured his lips, crushing her mouth against his in an aggressive, breathless kiss that instantly set his blood on fire.
