Chapter 1883: Why Cara Does What Cara Does
While the parents and their new mages celebrated the gain of their new skills, Karl took a moment to interrogate Cara.
[Is there a particular reason that you decided that we needed a druid and some new mages?]
[Of course there is. I don’t do things for no reason.]
[Care to elaborate?]
[I’m building our Spirit Immortal team. First, we have Ophelia and Lotus for tanks and heals, then we’ve got Amie for off tank and backup heals, more golems, Tessa for buffs, Seraphina and the boys for muscle.
Trust me, give it like one year, two at the most, and it will all work out.]
Karl had very little faith that Cara was not trying to pull some epic prank with a half year or longer lead time, but her reasoning was solid. The ladies were about to reach the power level where they could go out and play in the Immortal World.
But he was too strong to be interested in many of the same instances, unless it was one of the hidden realms that had something for everyone.
So, it made sense to have a full team for them to go with once they had their Immortal Spirits ready.
The Behemoths and Seraphina would both grow very rapidly in the Tiny World, so they would soon be joining the team, just like Leo had joined Karl not long after hatching. The beasts grew up fast, especially the Behemoths.
So, they would soon have a very well-rounded Spirit Immortal team, to go with the strong Void Realm team of Karl and Dana plus the beasts.
Though, if it was a year or two from now, would everyone still be at the same rank?
Cara seemed fairly confident that none of the others would progress beyond Spirit Immortal in that time.
The badger knew many things, so Karl didn’t ask the deep questions. She likely wouldn’t answer anyhow. Unlike Thor and Hawk, Cara was actually good at hiding her thoughts from him.
[Hey, why don’t you make me a new skill too?]
[Spatial Quake and Soul Siphon?] Karl asked.
[That’s the one.]
Karl let everyone celebrate as he tried out making a new skill for Cara, just to see how wonderfully, horrifically wrong it could go.
{Demonic Cultivation Manual Created} Unholy God’s Path of Eternal Destruction
{Unusable with Current System Affinity}
Karl frowned. [I think I did it wrong.]
But when he tried the combination with a few alterations, it still came up with the same result.
Cara also frowned at the notification. [No, I’m looking at the details, and you did it right, but what it makes isn’t something that we can do. And I think that the System believes it’s evil.]
[It literally shreds souls through all of space and time, so they can never resurrect, and feeds that power to the caster. If there ever was a technique that could properly be called an evil growth technique, that’s probably it.
In order to go from base Spirit Immortal to Supreme with that, you’d have to kill millions of people.]
[Apparently you can’t just be a part-time eliminator of stupidity from the flow of time. It’s an all or nothing thing.] Cara agreed.
Rae laughed at Cara’s annoyance, which had nothing to do with anything as righteous as eliminating stupidity. She wanted the skill simply because blowing up a soul in the Chaos Plane was even better than a fireworks show, and if you could absorb all that energy after, it wasn’t even a waste.
"Alright, we will leave the girls in your care. Is this lady also part of your Guild?" Amie’s mother asked.
Karl shook his head. "No, Cara and Opal are, but this is Veda. Seeker of the Blue Dragon, and a guest of the New Home Merchant Clan. She’s staying at the Darklight Host Guild House during the recruitment event.
The Clan was a bit short on spaces suitable to Clergy, so we’re playing the gracious host."
And they were the reason she was here.
[If we can’t do that, at least make something fun.]
Karl chuckled and created a coin for Cara to give out to someone.
{Coin of Random Chance} Randomly increases or decreases luck for one hour
Cara laughed as she made dozens more. These were going to be even more fun than cupcakes to give out. She could hand them to people openly as gifts, and then they could determine whether she was blessing or cursing them.
That was the perfect gift, even better than the poverty cupcakes, which were very clearly a consolation prize for those without anything worth taking.
Cara vanished, off to find her favourite target for random gifts.
Veda frowned. "You gave her something strange, didn’t you?"
"I gave her a coin that randomly increases or decreases luck when activated."
The Seeker laughed. "That sounds like the sort of thing that a Badger could keep herself entertained with for hours on end. But somehow, I suspect that she’s going to give it away."
Karl nodded. "She’s already making more to give to people and wondering why she wasn’t making them herself before now."
The excitement had died down, and the mothers were preparing to pack up, which meant that Karl had to get himself back to work.
Or not.
Instead, he called for the [Pet Sitter] that lurked around the Immortal Realm Guild House.
"If you could take these fine ladies and get rooms set up for them on the second floor, we will talk later about trade skills, work schedules and such. They can have the rest of the day off to settle in and personalize their rooms for the nights that they’re staying here.
They may wish to remain at home with their parents more often, but our standard work contract guarantees them a room here, so I will have you set it up now," Karl explained for the benefit of the girls.
The Pet Sitter knew his intentions just from his thoughts.
"Thank you so much. We’ve been trying to get our parents to let us move into individual apartments for ages, since we graduated from school, but they’re protective."
Karl laughed. "That’s how mothers are supposed to be. It’s best to appreciate it. It means they care."
