Chapter 83: Chapter 83: The Curse is Useless Now _1

Lin Zhongyuan’s temperament was unpredictable, and his actions were extremely bizarre. Even with friends he was supposedly close to, he might turn against them at any moment or even stab them in the back without any consideration for their feelings.

Simply put, he was a refined egoist, focusing entirely on his own moods with no regard for saving face for anyone else.

Li Dazhuang had once heard his master talk about Lin, and seeing him in person, he found it to be exactly so.

Seeing that a conflict had erupted between them upon their first meeting, Li Dazhuang hurriedly stepped forward to mediate, "Master Lin, please calm your anger. With the enemy still unidentified, we cannot afford to fight amongst ourselves!"

"Young Master Chen has always been straightforward and to the point, with no beating around the bush. If there was any offense, I would like to apologize on his behalf."

Li Dazhuang bowed deeply, his attitude very humble. He presented himself as a junior in front of Lin Zhongyuan, completely lacking his usual arrogance.

Seeing Li Dazhuang’s sincerity, Lin Zhongyuan couldn’t be bothered to argue anymore and casually let go, tossing Chen Feng to the side.

Chen Feng struggled to get up from the ground, patting the dust off his clothes. One would have expected him to be angry, but surprisingly, after the scolding, Chen Feng fell silent, his demeanor becoming much more subdued.

Chen Bin watched his son’s transformation and felt it was somewhat peculiar.

But in reality, just moments ago, Chen Feng had felt an overwhelming pressure emanating from Lin Zhongyuan.

For an instant, Chen Feng felt like an ant. If Lin Zhongyuan had wanted him dead, a mere flick of his finger would have sufficed.

This realization made Chen Feng acutely aware of Lin Zhongyuan’s strength and also filled him with regret for his previous insolence. If not for Li Dazhuang pleading on his behalf, he might well have died just then.

"Enough, I am not so petty as to fuss over a dispute with an ignorant junior," Lin Zhongyuan said coldly: "I have much to do next. Also, why are there only three of you here? There should be another to greet me."

Li Dazhuang and Chen Bin exchanged glances, not quite following the meaning of Lin Zhongyuan’s words.

"Master Lin, who else are you looking for?" Li Dazhuang asked tentatively.

Lin Zhongyuan asked in an icy tone, "Where has Zhang Tianlai gone to die? He knows I was due to come down from the mountain today; why didn’t he come to greet me?"

"Master Lin, when you speak of Zhang Tianlai, do you mean the Half-immortal Zhang who’s been making a big name for himself in Hai City these past few days?" Chen Bin asked at that moment.

Lin Zhongyuan scoffed derisively: "Half-immortal? He truly flatters himself with that title. Isn’t he afraid of having his teeth laughed out?"

"He’s just an obscure junior, with nothing but some minor tricks up his sleeve. He’s merely a dog I keep around to fetch things for me, things that are quite important to me."

To hear the mighty Half-immortal Zhang referred to as an obscure junior in Lin Zhongyuan’s mouth shocked Chen Bin, who couldn’t help but realize that he was in the presence of a true master!

Chen Bin quickly approached, explaining to Lin Zhongyuan, "Master Lin, to be honest with you, these past few days, Half-immortal Zhang was indeed very active."

"He has been resolving concerns for the powerful, surveying feng shui, making quite the name for himself, and many were seeking his services."

"Then, just a few days ago, something happened, and he vanished without a trace. Rumor has it that after visiting the Qin Family, there was no more news from him."

Without a second thought, Chen Bin readily splashed some mud on the Qin Family.

When he had faced troubles, the Qin Family hadn’t offered any help. Later, he’d heard that the son of the Qin Family got along well with Ye Ming, so naturally, Chen Bin came to regard the Qin Family as part of his own list of enemies.

Lin Zhongyuan stood with hands clasped behind his back, his gaze cold and piercing as he looked in the direction of the city, "No matter. I’ve placed a death curse on him. Since the boy is so heedless towards me, he deserves to pay some price."

As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Zhongyuan silently recited an incantation and closed his eyes.

In a corner of Hai City, Zhang Tianlai was walking down the street when suddenly, a terrifying sense of oppression came over him, accompanied by a piercing pain so intense that he started rolling on the ground in agony.

That feeling left him unable to live or die, as if he were in hell being scorched and fried, unbearably painful.

Zhang Tianlai immediately understood that it must be the curse afflicting him acting up, as Lin Zhongyuan had emerged from seclusion.

"This guy, I didn’t expect him to be so ruthless!" Zhang Tianlai said with a ferocious look, cursing vehemently, "I’ve been your damn dog for so long, and you just turn your face on me like that, damn it, me..."

He was cursing halfway when he suddenly remembered the amulet Ye Ming had given him.

He had always carried the two charms with him, and now, he struggled to take them out and place them on his chest.

After a burst of golden light, Zhang Tianlai returned to normal, and the painful sensation vanished in an instant.

"Damn, the Golden Light Spell actually works."

Zhang Tianlai was startled by the scene before him and his admiration for Ye Ming deepened.

After checking his body carefully, Zhang Tianlai found that the curse was still present on him; the Golden Light Spell could protect him temporarily but not forever.

Thus, Zhang Tianlai resolved to follow Ye Ming wholeheartedly, as now, only Ye Ming could rescue him from this peril.

...

At the foot of the mountain, Lin Zhongyuan’s face underwent a drastic change.

The sorcery he had cast suddenly became ineffective, which he had not anticipated at all.

"What is this? How dare it obstruct my sorcery? That old Zhang Tianlai must be tired of living!"

Lin Zhongyuan’s composure shattered. He had never failed before, having controlled Zhang Tianlai for years with his sorcery, but now, at this critical moment, it had become ineffective.

In a fit of rage, he stomped his foot, causing the ground to tremble along with him.

Chen Bin and his group watching from behind were scared, not expecting Lin Zhongyuan to possess such immense power.

Moreover, the trembling ground caused a giant boulder to roll down from the mountain behind them, heading straight for Lin Zhongyuan.

The loud noise frightened Chen Bin and the others, their faces turning pale as they hastily retreated, fearing they would be buried there.

However, Lin Zhongyuan seemed oblivious to the danger, maintaining his indifferent demeanor.

"This guy’s really crazy, his head doesn’t seem to work right!" Chen Bin sighed helplessly, feeling somewhat disappointed in Lin Zhongyuan.

As the stone was about to strike Lin Zhongyuan, he suddenly stretched out a hand and pressed it against the rock.

With a loud bang, the boulder instantly shattered into dust and drifted away with the wind.

Chen Bin was dumbfounded by the sight, deeply impressed by the strength displayed by Lin Zhongyuan.

Luckily, he reacted quickly, and now hurried over to Lin Zhongyuan with a big smile, expressing his admiration, "Master Lin, you truly are a revered sage. Today, you’ve really opened Chen’s eyes!"
