Chapter 2664: Chapter 2664: Spreading Rumors Is Easy, Refuting Them Is Hard

"The incarnation is dead."

In the wild mountains and forests, Carson Flores raised his head, his expression grave: "Go!"

Carson Flores summoned the Ethereal Pagoda, instantly enclosing the three within it. The Pagoda soared skyward, fleeing into the distance.

In the Ethereal Pagoda’s main hall, Carson Flores sighed: "Sure enough, someone is waiting for me."

Niall Sinclair whispered: "Can you discern what has happened?"

Carson Flores shook his head: "After entering the mountain gate, the Sect Great Array cut off my vision. I don’t know what happened afterward, but since the incarnation died, and died instantaneously, it indicates a big trouble. In order to avoid falling into enemy hands, he had no choice but to die."

"Entering the mountain gate was to meet Elthar Garber. Since the incarnation died, it’s most likely Elthar Garber’s doing, perhaps because our identities were exposed on the Commerce Aircraft, fulfilling previous worries."

Niall Sinclair frowned: "Your incarnation died, but what about the Dark Ancestral Dragon? Is he dead too?"

Carson Flores closed his eyes, sensing for a moment.

"Previously, I made an oath with him, but I can no longer feel the contractual connection now. It seems the bond has been severed and he’s regained freedom; the oath I made has been nullified."

"Since I’m dead, he certainly can’t escape either; he’s either killed together or captured, and Elthar Garber surely wants to learn our secrets from him."

Delarosa interjected: "He has stayed in the tower all along, with no contact with other matters. Even if exposed, it’s only the existence of the Ethereal Pagoda that is revealed; he can’t say anything beyond that."

Carson Flores forced a smile: "He’s really unlucky, regaining freedom only to be caught again."

Ilvarion Arnold asked: "Brother, should we rescue him?"

Carson Flores shook his head: "With our current strength, rescuing him is impossible. Attempting a rescue would mean a pointless sacrifice..."

Ilvarion Arnold frowned: "Should we leave directly then?"

Carson Flores contemplated: "Rescue is certainly out of the question, but we can employ some small measures to gather information and earn the Dark Ancestral Dragon a chance to survive."

Niall Sinclair’s eyes sparkled, looking at Carson Flores expectantly: "How do you plan to do that?"

Niall Sinclair harbors blind trust and anticipation for Carson Flores. Although Carson’s strength isn’t impressive, he mingles among these influential figures with unexpected moves, accomplishing what others cannot, as if nothing could hamper him.

Carson Flores chuckled: "Just wait and see."

...

City of Netherfire.

In his Cave Mansion, Elthar Garber sat cross-legged in contemplation when the Steward in charge of Fenshen Sword matters arrived gravely.

"City Lord, there are rumors in the city that our City of Netherfire, while undertaking the Fenshen Sword’s business, received exorbitant rewards from the client and simultaneously appropriated valuable items, killed the client, and destroyed the evidence..."

Elthar Garber frowned: "Who spread this?"

The Steward said in a serious tone: "Upon hearing this, I immediately sent people to investigate, caught some individuals, but couldn’t trace the source. I suspect this is related to those things from a few days ago."

Elthar Garber raised his brows: "Carson Flores?"

The Steward nodded: "Among the cases in the rumors, Carson Flores’s matter is the most detailed. It’s said that the City of Netherfire covets the Black Dragon, plans to make it a mount, thus snatched it forcibly, and killed the client..."

Elthar Garber’s expression turned icy: "This kid has quite a mind, not running away but instead giving me trouble."

The Steward whispered: "It’s likely he was provoked and therefore spent Spirit Stone to hire people to spread such rumors. Now, rumors are flying everywhere, and many clients who come to do business are suspicious in their words and manner. If we don’t manage this, our City’s reputation could be compromised."

Elthar Garber’s eyes darkened. The Fenshen Sword has brought him endless cultivation resources. If the reputation goes bad, who would dare approach him in the future, who would come to bring him resources?

The Steward, seeing Elthar Garber contemplating, suggested softly: "How about I send people to post notices, detailing these as mere rumors, punish severely anyone who continues spreading rumors, and heavily reward informers!"

Elthar Garber looked up: "Rumors spread quickly, it’s hard to dispel them by running around. He’s openly confronting me. The more you try to cover it up, the larger the scene he’ll make, ruining the reputation further..."

"Post notices explaining the reasons in detail: he’s a fugitive from the Myriad Immortals Palace and killed my brother. Since he came to me, who else should I kill if not him?"

The Steward nodded: "Yes, City Lord."

Elthar Garber pondered for a few seconds, sneering: "By doing this, he might seek to disgrace me, make me uncomfortable, all just to vent his anger, but also to see if the Black Dragon is dead."

"Add a line at the end of the notice saying the Black Dragon is still alive, I’ve imprisoned it at Sky-Covering Ridge. If he’s not afraid to die, let him come for the rescue. I’m waiting for him!"
