Chapter 2598: Chapter 2598: Those Who Fear Death Often Die; Those Who Don’t May Survive
Carson Flores let out a sigh in his heart and silently nodded.
Things had come to this point; the blame was already firmly on his back. Carson Flores no longer cared what would happen next following the old woman. At least, it seemed this old woman had no intention of killing them.
Although Carson Flores and Niall Sinclair were not weak, in her eyes they could be wiped out with a flick of the wrist; there was no need at all for her to put on an act with them.
The Sky Array Banner swept out, and the War Slaves whose battle had ended took their spoils and once again disappeared into the banner.
From beginning to end, those War Slaves did not say a single word.
Watching those vanishing War Slaves, a thought suddenly flashed through Carson Flores’ mind, and he was instantly chilled with fright.
It looked like this old woman was extremely skilled at controlling War Slaves; could it be that she was also thinking of a way to turn him and the others into War Slaves?
Thinking of the state of those War Slaves, having no control over their own bodies, Carson Flores could not help but shiver.
"No need to worry. I do refine War Slaves as well, but I don’t take just anything. Your strength counts as quite outstanding among the younger generation, but to serve as my War Slaves, you’re still not qualified."
The old woman’s voice sounded in Carson Flores’ ears. When he turned his head, he met those deep, unfathomable eyes of hers, as if they could see through every thought in his heart.
Carson Flores let out a breath of relief and said with a smile, "Senior’s strength is so formidable, you must already be of the Quasi-Saint level. How could you ever need someone of my cultivation? Wouldn’t I just hold you back?"
"Quasi-Saint, hmph!"
The old woman snorted coldly, her gaze so deep that no one could tell what emotion lay within.
She waved her hand, and the array flags on all four sides returned to her palm. With another casual gesture, she summoned a small Flying Boat.
"Come, you control the Flying Boat. Head west."
Carson Flores nodded, quietly lifted Ilvarion Arnold, and boarded the Flying Boat.
Cassiane Sinclair had just prepared to activate a magical treasure to conceal her true appearance when the old woman spoke in a calm tone: "Don’t cover it. Just like this. A face this beautiful—covering it up is simply a waste."
Cassiane Sinclair’s hand paused for a moment, then she silently lowered it.
"This face has brought me all sorts of trouble. Covering it is just to avoid causing more..."
The old woman said coldly, "Since you’re with me, there’s naturally no need to cover it. If some blind fools appear, you just kill them."
Cassiane Sinclair’s eyes lit up. She let her hand fall and answered obediently, "Thank you, Senior!"
Listening to the two of them talk, Carson Flores secretly relaxed.
He had been worrying before that this old woman, with her eccentric temperament, might grow jealous of Cassiane Sinclair’s near-perfect face. After all, the strongest emotion women usually feel toward a more beautiful woman isn’t admiration but jealousy, wishing they could utterly destroy the other.
From the way the old woman was talking, she seemed to quite appreciate Cassiane Sinclair’s beauty?
"Senior, how should we address you?"
The old woman said coldly, "In your heart you’ve probably called me ’damn old hag’ many times by now, haven’t you?"
Carson Flores felt extremely awkward. "Although Senior’s methods leave me unable to argue, and I’ll likely have a lot of trouble in the future because of them, no matter what, I am still deeply in awe of your strength. In this world there are countless Divine Skills, but time and space are the most mysterious, and between the two, Time Divine Ability Beings are even rarer. Senior can be called one of the few true powerhouses in this world..."
The old woman turned her head to look at Carson Flores and asked calmly, "You do have quite a glib tongue. What is your Innate Divine Ability?"
Carson Flores did not hesitate and answered frankly, "Five Elements Great Escape."
The old woman was slightly taken aback. "That is rare. Somewhat interesting."
Carson Flores chuckled. "When my master first met me, that was his exact comment as well."
The old woman waved her hand. "You can probably forget about going back to Dragon Mountain Sect. From now on, follow me... either you rise above all others, or you die without a burial place."
Her words were filled with a kind of unstoppable domineering air, and it was obvious this was her final decision, not a choice she was offering him.
Carson Flores had no choice.
He smiled bitterly and said, "I came from a small place to begin with, all alone. On the road up till now, I’ve offended countless people and killed no small number as well. I can face that calmly enough. After all, I’m not some important figure and have no great background. I just take each day as it comes, and I have no regrets along the way."
"Senior is so capable; for you to think me worth your notice and let me follow you is my good fortune. It’s just that my master Floating Cloud has treated me well. If my actions drag him down, and drag down Dragon Mountain Sect, it would leave me feeling guilty, and my Dao heart would not be clear."
"Senior, would you permit me to record a short image and send it to my master, so that I can sever ties with him and keep him from being implicated by me..."
The old woman sneered. "You’re quite the sentimental and loyal one. You’re afraid of implicating him, but you’re not afraid of dying yourself?"
Carson Flores laughed freely. "Back when I was still a mortal, I was a soldier, killing on the battlefield to protect home and country. I’d already long since looked past life and death."
"In the Immortal Cultivation World, the strong are revered, and thrones are built on piles of bones. Those who fear death often die; those who don’t fear death might still have a sliver of life left to grasp..."
