Christmas is a Western holiday, but over the years, due to deliberate or inadvertent packaging and promotion by people, mainly in the media and business sectors, it has long been celebrated by many young people. Like McDonald’s and KFC, you can ignore it or refuse to accept it, but you cannot deny that they have a large audience in Yun Country, especially among young people.
However, no matter how many people celebrate it, there are no holidays on the Yun Country Continent. Traditionally, only the New Year has been a statutory holiday. The holidays for Qingming, Dragon Boat, and Mid-Autumn festivals only became a thing after the 21st century. Holidays like Lantern, Ghost, and Double Ninth festivals are not legal holidays, so of course, foreign holidays won’t be considered.
In fact, whether it’s a traditional holiday or a foreign one, it’s always good to have another day of celebration. At the very least, it offers an extra occasion for happiness and anticipation, giving people who are generally reserved in expressing blessings an opportunity to convey their well-wishes to family and friends.
This year’s Christmas happens to fall on a Saturday, which is certainly convenient for many young people on dates.
But for Li Yan, this year’s Christmas is a bit busy. Because the antique auction is scheduled for Christmas night. And the birthday of Wen Qianyi and Zhang Yurong is the following day, which is Sunday, December 26th.
For Yue Yao’s birthday, he made grand preparations, considering Wen Qianyi and Zhang Yurong are equally important people to him, he couldn’t favor one over the other, could he? Wen Qianyi is a bit easier to deal with; as a friend, a well-prepared gift would suffice. But Zhang Yurong, her sadness, anger, and disappointment are related to this birthday. However, since they haven’t parted ways yet, and considering she’s still so important to him, of course, he couldn’t ignore her birthday just because of a cold war.
Li Yan spent a week preparing for Yue Yao’s birthday. Initially, he had more time for Wen Qianyi and Zhang Yurong, but after moving away, he felt down, avoided thinking of Zhang Yurong, and naturally forgot about it, which resulted in losing several days. Along with keeping an eye on Sonia and the ’Rose’ group, his time was quite stretched. This time, the focus was preparing for Zhang Yurong, and he didn’t have to hide it. He could openly let Yue Yao help with ideas.
After talking with Hai Fu and Huang Ying on the phone that night, coupled with Yue Yao’s situation, he later figured things out, changing his mindset and ceasing to immerse himself in avoidance. But after that, he became a bit mysterious. Though he still appeared in the office daily, there was never a day he stayed there for more than an hour continuously. Even meetings or reviewing documents were handled quickly.
His style becoming so sharp made the employees at Heavenly Film speculate whether he’s working on another project, one that might be green-lighted quickly like the one with Qiao Pan. It made them not dare to slack off, solving current issues timely and preparing extensively, knowing which films are set to release next year, how many are in the pipeline, and which ones are being prepared, etc.
Jiang Xueyin found this strange, not entirely believing Li Yan was secretly preparing a project. Instead, she suspected he might be using work hours to accompany other girls. But lacking evidence, all she could do was faithfully report Li Yan’s daily situation to her cousin Zhang Yurong.
Zhang Yurong felt uneasy and dared not contact Li Yan. Since seeing him in the elevator that day, she hadn’t encountered him anymore. Although she maintained a calm and composed demeanor, she was still undecided about whether they should separate or divorce. And until she made up her mind, she didn’t want Li Yan resigning and leaving. Hearing Jiang Xueyin’s supervised reports, she outwardly said it was nothing and asked Xueyin to keep an eye out, but internally, she felt heavy-hearted.
Old habits die hard. Though she couldn’t claim to understand Li Yan completely and had limited knowledge of him during the early months of marriage, in the past half-year, she had grown quite familiar with him. At least, she understood her husband better than colleagues who had only been interacting with him for a little over a month, right?
In her view, Li Yan’s sudden decisive changes were clearly to save time, not because his small universe exploded into competence, nor due to her provocation, leading to a sudden one-eighty shift in his work attitude. On the contrary, he was likely preparing to jump ship!
The time he saved, he spent outside every day, probably not for business expansion, social engagements, or inspections but likely job hunting! He already had a job, spent ten months polishing his credentials at Paradise Group, and now held the position of General Manager at Heavenly Film. With such experience, finding a regular job outside shouldn’t be a problem. He’s probably just looking for a way out now.
