Chapter 1093: Chapter 309: Busted
Chapter 309: The Cover Was Blown
"Close the door!"
Seeing Li Yan come in, Yurong didn’t wait for him to speak, and there was no smile for the way he bit the flower in his mouth as he entered.
"What happened?" Seeing her expression, Li Yan put the flowers on her desk and then went over to her side.
Yurong took out a stack of items from her bag and placed them on the table.
They were various styles of cards, clearly from people who sent her flowers today. Normally, Yurong wouldn’t have brought them back; she would have just had someone dispose of them along with the flowers. Keeping them all today might be to cover up for Li Yan. Otherwise, accepting just one would undoubtedly lead others to speculate.
"Is this your handwriting?" She quickly picked out the unsigned card from Li Yan.
"Smart! I knew with our connection, even if I didn’t sign it, you’d be able to recognize it. Just like if I were lost in a sea of people, you could find me with your eyes closed."
Li Yan complimented with a smile, but internally he was pondering quietly, could it be an issue with the card? Did Yurong see similar cards?
"Not as smart as you!" Yurong’s eyes flashed with a complex look.
"What do you mean?" Li Yan silently lamented; it seemed that his cover was blown!
She might dispose of it, as Hai Fu rarely received flowers at the company, and with her authoritative image, it’s not easy to have someone dispose of flowers or share chocolates. She’d likely take them away after work or deal with them later. If Yurong went to her office, given their personal relationship, it wouldn’t be unusual for her to take a look. And since there was no signature, Hai Fu could claim she didn’t know who sent it, and wouldn’t need to hide it, showing it openly. Seeing it, Yurong would naturally know who sent it!
As for Qianyi, with her image and charm, one would expect her to receive as many flowers as Yurong, and it wouldn’t be surprising if she didn’t deal with them immediately and had many left. Since the New Year, she’s been dwelling on their relationship issue and hasn’t met him alone. Even if she received flowers, she’d deal with them.
"No particular meaning. I just realized today how clever you really are. Using the same words, the same unsigned way, one card copied multiple times, and one set of flowers sent to multiple people. How wonderful!" Yurong said sarcastically.
"Multiple copies? Where else did you see such flowers? Couldn’t be such a coincidence, right? Mine is copyrighted, surely any resemblance is coincidental?"
Li Yan pretended to be surprised. By now, he was almost certain Yurong had really discovered the truth, so he wasn’t trying to deny it. He just wanted to probe the situation and see who exactly she discovered.
After all, nine sets were sent today, and Hai Fu was the most likely, but it wasn’t absolute. Maybe she left work early to visit Shinohara Mirai in the hotel. If it was discovered in a hotel room, two sets of similar flowers and cards would be a minor issue, and it could be directly admitted, just for politeness. But this had to be clarified. If Yurong saw it there and he admitted to sending it to Hai Fu, wouldn’t that be a confession? The opposite applies too.
"Any resemblance? Coincidence?" Yurong sneered, "When the flower shop sent the flowers for you, they happened to be in my office for a meeting. After Reception called and inquired, they sent it directly to the president’s office without interrupting us, signed off by Yunyun. After our meeting ended, we saw three identical sets of flowers, gifts, and cards! Coincidence? What a coincidence! You might as well say it’s the flower shop’s standard format, and it just so happened that the flowers sent to three people were from the same shop."
Three people...
Li Yan silently broke into a cold sweat; even one slip-up with Hai Fu was a headache, and now Wen Qianyi too!
This time, it really was a coincidence, a coincidence that they happened to be in the president’s office for a meeting, but the flower shop’s service was quite irresponsible...
If he had known, he wouldn’t have tried to save trouble; sending from three different flower shops for them wouldn’t have coincidentally reached at the same time!
Seeing him speechless, Yurong stared at him and asked calmly, "What do you say?"
"Could it be... someone deliberately framed me? Someone happened to find out I sent you flowers, thought I was a toad wanting to eat swan meat, so they sent one to Wen Qianyi, who knows me well, and one to the most authoritative president at the company, even copying my card. It must be a male colleague from the company! It could be Ye Jiahong, who left."
Li Yan offered an excuse even he didn’t believe. He needed time to figure out how to handle the situation. Honestly, with Wen Qianyi, it’s explainable, as they’re partners, and Zhang Yurong knew this. Even if Valentine’s flowers were a bit suggestive, it could be explained as friendly; the card wording was coincidental. But with Hai Fu? How to explain his connection with her?
Zhang Yurong’s intelligence wasn’t easy to deceive. She sneered: "Yes, deliberately framing you! You didn’t work today, didn’t even leave at the usual time, yet someone knew you’d go to that flower shop, waited by the side, spied on you, framed you, what a coincidence!"
