Chapter 157: Chapter 157 Traditions
"You had black paint on your cheek, mate." He utters whilst wiping his hands on a wet cloth. He has paint stains as well not on his body but his clothes. He needs to change. Peering down at myself a low exasperated sigh makes its way out of my mouth. I need to change as well.
"I shall go heat our meal." I mutter turning around striding to the small open kitchen. Deimos had taught me how to use this stove, it was not electric that I often used but a gas stove. There was a lighter by the side to start the fire. It was intriguing for this cabin was the only place that possessed such a stove.
The refrigerator is small, one fit for perhaps merely a few groceries and dishes. I do not think he ever imagined that one day he would share this place with his female and his pup. But he did speak of buying a new fridge, big enough to fit more. Carrying the cold stew I pour it into a pot on the fire. What do I do with the bread? It was kept outside but it is not cold, perhaps we can eat it as it is for the stew shall be warm.
"Remember low or medium heat. Do not have the heat on full." He utters from the room.
"It is on low heat." I state back. Simply put, it is a lie. He knows me well. Twisting the control knobs I reduce the flames to low heat.
Leaning upon the counter my palm placed over the marble I stir the stew waiting for it to bubble up. The sound of his nearing footsteps has my ears perk up and a swift glance I give him. He pulls open the upper cupboard to extract some bowls and spoons for our meal. There is slowness and excitement to his actions as though he were truly happy. This would be the first proper meal we shall have together after a long time.
"I shall toast the bread for you if you’d like." He says his back turned to me as he arranges the cutlery upon the table. He even has a vase of fresh flowers in the middle, which adds to the welcoming aura.
"No, it is all right." I whisper back. This situation scares me but it also calms me. It feels as though things had never changed between us. There is a natural feeling of this environment, me by the stove him preparing the table. If Kal were here, one would think we are a family. An actual family. I smile at the thought looking down hiding it from his eyes.
He peeks at the stew from over my shoulder right palm raised to slowly settle upon my waist. I take a deep breath in as he lifts the spoon to his lips licking it to taste. He gives a nod in satisfaction then he dips it back into the pot again. Lifting the spoon he blows on it to soothe the heat and brings it to my lips. He offers it to me. Bending down I take some into my mouth chewing on the juicy tender pieces of meat.
"Do you like it? If not, I have some spices to add more flavour to meet your taste." He mutters eyes eagerly searching mine for my answer.
"Then what if it is to my taste and not yours?" I ask. A gentle smile gleams on his face. A beautiful smile where his eyes smile with him.
"I shall eat it if you like it, my female. That is all that matters."
"I like it as it is." I remark moving past him striding to my seat. I do like it, it is not that flavourful but not that bland either. It has its unique taste and the bread shall go well with it.
He brings the steaming stew and pours it into my bowl first. An act of a provider. After filling his bowl he tears the bread into small bite sizes and passes them to me so that I can eat with ease. He takes his first bite swallowing down the softness of the stew and bread combined whilst I am quick to follow.
I did take two more fillings, I offered him my empty bowl and he refilled it with no hesitation happy that I am eating well and to my heart’s content.
"I wished to talk to you about something." He declares whilst wiping his mouth with a napkin. He has finished his meal not taking any more.
"What is it?" I ask my eyes never leaving his as I gulp down my water. My belly bloated with fullness I am warm and content. Relaxed I peer up at him who looks at me with determination.
"The traditions my pack possesses, I would like you to go through each one of them with me. I wish to change them, for a better future. For our male." He says emeralds cool and glorious as he regards me. He has made up his mind on this, he shall change their ways despite the chaos that shall erupt once more.
Silence consumes us for a few minutes, my thoughts taking a hold of me and him waiting patiently for my response. I hadn’t expected this, even if he wished to change the ways of this pack I hadn’t expected him to come to me seeking my opinions.
I am the outsider here, my beliefs of what is right that will break down their ancestor’s traditions shall perhaps push the pack further away from me. Their eyes may see me as evil and not sent from the moon. But what he is doing is neither for his sake nor mine. He is doing it so that Kal could have a better future, a changed rising pack to hold as his.
The elders shall not live that long to stand in Kal’s way but if Deimos and I do this together we can kill the fire right away and not get our male involved. This could be the beginning, the beginning of Kal’s canvas.
