Chapter 66: Chapter 66 If you don’t leave right now, I’m calling security

Aria’s POV

Of course. When he couldn’t win the argument, he fell back on jealousy.

"A man?" I shrugged, my tone dismissive. "I have no idea what you’re talking about. Maybe it was a client? I’ve been meeting with a lot of clients lately. "

"Silver Creek Pack might have lost me, but my clients haven’t. Whether I change companies or not, plenty of people are lining up to work with me."

I watched anger flash across his face. He wanted to yell, to demand answers, but he had no proof. No leverage.

"Stop this, Aria." His voice was strained now. "I don’t want these issues to destroy what we have—"

We’d barely fought before. Ethan prided himself on how well he treated me, how carefully he maintained our relationship.

I’d always said feelings mattered more than anything else.

And after our "marriage," I’d lived by those words. I’d prioritized his trust, his understanding, his love above everything.

Whenever our interests conflicted, Ethan would say all the right things—but I was always the one who compromised.

I’d never cared about money or who sacrificed more. I’d only cared about us.

I hadn’t even been able to stay angry at him.

How pathetic I’d been.

"I don’t have time to wait around," I said, cutting him off. "You have two days to think it over. If you can’t agree, I’ll formally resign from Silver Creek Pack."

I turned to leave, but Ethan grabbed my wrist.

"Aria, wait—"

"Let go." My voice was ice.

"Just listen to me for one more—"

"Alpha Holt."

The voice came from behind us, smooth and authoritative.

I turned to see Lucas approaching, his expression neutral but his eyes sharp. Victor’s son carried himself with the easy confidence of someone who belonged in spaces like this.

"I believe Ms. Smith asked you to let her go," Lucas said, stopping a few feet away.

Ethan’s grip on my wrist tightened. "This is a private conversation."

"That ended the moment you put your hands on her." Lucas’s gaze flicked to where Ethan held me, and something dangerous flickered in his expression.

"Security is already on their way. I suggest you leave voluntarily."

Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he looked between Lucas and me. "Is this him?"

I blinked. "Excuse me?"

"The man who answered your phone that morning." His voice rose, drawing stares from passersby on the street. "Is this the guy you’ve been sneaking around with?"

For a moment, I was too stunned to respond. Then a laugh bubbled up from my chest—sharp and bitter.

Was he seriously accusing me of cheating? After everything he’d done?

I opened my mouth to tell him Lucas was my cousin. But the words died on my tongue.

If I told Ethan that Lucas was family, it would expose everything. He’d figure out who I really was—who I’d become. And I wasn’t ready for that conversation. Not here. Not now.

Maybe not ever.

"That’s really none of your concern anymore," I said instead, my voice steady despite the fury burning in my chest.

"None of my concern?" Ethan took a step closer, and I could feel his wolf pressing against his control. "You’re my mate, Aria. Everything about you is my concern."

"Then you should have thought about that before you turned me into your free labor for two years." I met his gaze without flinching. "If you don’t leave right now, I’m calling security."

"You can’t be serious—"

"I’m completely serious." I pulled my phone from my purse, my finger hovering over the screen. "You have ten seconds to walk away before I have you escorted off the property."

Something flickered in Ethan’s expression—surprise, maybe, or disbelief. As if he couldn’t quite comprehend that I would actually follow through.

He’d never seen me like this before. Cold. Unmovable.

The old Aria would have melted the moment he looked hurt. Would have apologized for making him feel insecure, would have reassured him that he was the only one who mattered.

But that version of me was gone.

"Ten," I said quietly. "Nine. Eight."

"Aria—"

"Seven. Six."

His jaw tightened, his hands curling into fists at his sides. I could see him weighing his options—stay and make a scene, or leave with whatever dignity he had left.

"Five. Four."

"This isn’t over," he said finally, his voice low and threaded with warning. "You have two days to come to your senses. Think about what you’re throwing away."

Then he turned and stalked away, his shoulders rigid with barely contained rage.

I watched him go, my heart hammering against my ribs. My hand was still gripping my phone, my knuckles white from the pressure.

I’d done it. I’d actually stood up to him.

And it felt... terrifying. Exhilarating. Like I’d just jumped off a cliff and wasn’t sure if I’d fall or fly.

"That was impressive," Lucas said beside me.

I’d almost forgotten he was there. I lowered my phone and took a shaky breath, trying to calm the adrenaline coursing through my veins.

"Thanks," I managed. "For backing me up."

"Don’t mention it." He studied me for a moment, his expression thoughtful. "You okay?"

I nodded, though I wasn’t entirely sure that was true. My wrist still felt warm where Ethan had grabbed me.

"What are you doing here, anyway?" I asked, desperate to change the subject before the weight of everything crushed me.
