Chapter 163: Wake Up, Caelir

I opened my heavy eyes.

But there was nothing to see. The world around me was a vast and endless blackness, a silent emptiness that stretched in every direction without any sign of a sky, a ground, or a horizon.

It was like standing inside a void that had no edges, no beginning, and no end.

I blinked slowly, trying to make sense of what I was seeing. My body felt strange, disconnected from itself.

I was light, hollow, as if I had been hollowed out and filled with air instead of flesh and bone.

If I concentrated hard enough, I could almost feel myself dissolving, becoming part of the endless blackness around me.

’Where am I?’

I tried to move my hand. It obeyed, lifting into my field of vision. But I couldn’t feel it or sense it. Just the image of my hand floating in the emptiness.

I tried to stand, and I was standing. But I couldn’t feel the ground beneath my feet. There was no cold, no warmth, no pressure. Nothing to tell me I was actually there.

’Am I dead?’

The thought came slowly, drifting through my mind like a stone sinking through deep water.

I remembered a stick, and its sharp tip pressed against my neck. The pain that had exploded through my body.

The blood that had gushed from my throat.

Then I remembered her face, her tears, her hands pressing against my wound, trying to stop the bleeding. Her voice, broken and desperate, calling my name.

’Lunara.’

I opened my mouth to call her name, but no sound came out. My voice was gone, swallowed by the void.

Or maybe there was nothing for it to travel through the black emptiness, which consumed everything.

I stood there in the endless nothing, alone and silent. Time passed, or maybe it didn’t. There was no way to tell. The black void remained unchanged, unchanging, eternal.

Then I heard her voice.

It was faint and distant, like an echo carried from the bottom of a deep well. It seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once, wrapping around me like a thread I couldn’t grasp.

"You can’t leave me."

I turned, searching for the source of the sound. But there was nothing there... Just the endless blackness stretching in every direction.

"Be it a thousand years or a million years, I will wait for you to reincarnate again."

I tried to run toward the sound. I pushed my legs forward, pumping my arms, running until my lungs burned. But nothing changed.

’Whose voice was that? Why does it feel so familiar?’

The black void stretched endlessly in every direction, offering no forward, no backward, no escape.

"Do you hear me?"

Her voice was getting closer, or maybe farther. I couldn’t tell. The void distorted everything, warping distance and direction into something I couldn’t understand.

"I will find you no matter what."

I opened my mouth to shout, forcing the words up from my chest with all my strength. But nothing came out. Just the crushing silence of the void.

"No matter where you hide..."

The black void flickered. For just a moment, her face appeared before me.

Her red eyes were filled with tears that streamed down her cheeks. Her white hair was tangled and wild, whipping in a wind I couldn’t feel.

"You can’t escape from me, Alvin."

Her voice cracked on the last word, breaking with grief and desperation. Then the void swallowed her image, and she was gone.

’Was she... talking to me?’

’Who is she? Why do I feel so... sad?’

Then I was alone again, surrounded by the endless blackness, with nothing but the echo of her voice and the weight of a love I had never truly understood.

...

So many years have passed. Or maybe eons. I couldn’t tell anymore.

The black void never changed. It was the same endless nothing, silent and cold, stretching in every direction without end.

And slowly, I began to forget many things.

But I never forgot her words.

I repeated them to myself every day, every hour, every minute.

’Alvin. Alvin? Was that my name?’

’Why is she taking so long? Didn’t she say she would find me?’

’Did she lie to me?’

The thought stung. I pushed it away. I refused to believe it.

’But... I didn’t even know the ’she’ I was thinking about.’

Time passed.

One day, my neck started to itch. It was a small, annoying sensation at first. I tried to ignore it. But it grew worse, spreading across my skin like a slow fire.

Subconsciously, I lifted my hand and scratched.

My fingers caught something. Something small. Something solid.

’Hm?’

Surprised, I brought the object into my field of vision. It was a small creature, no more than twenty centimeters long.

It looked like a cat, but it had two golden horns on its head. Its entire body was pure white, glowing faintly in the darkness. And across its fur, azure runes pulsed with a soft, rhythmic light.

I stared at it.

"What are you?"

The cat tilted its head and looked at me with curious eyes. It just watched me and let out a small cry,

"Kruu~"

Then it opened its small, cute mouth and bit down on empty air. Its jaws closed as if it had swallowed something invisible.

It started chewing, its tiny mouth moving in a slow, deliberate rhythm.

-Boom.

The entire black space shook. A deep, resonant tremor traveled through the void, rattling my bones.

The cat repeated the action. It bit the air again, then chewed and swallowed.

-Boom.

The black space cracked. A thin fracture appeared in the endless darkness, spreading like a web of broken glass.

The cat repeated the action a third time. It opened its mouth, bit down, chewed, swallowed.

-Boom.

The cracks widened. Light poured through, golden and warm, flooding the void.

From within the cracks, I heard a distant yet familiar voice.

"Wake up."

The cracks spread further. The golden light grew brighter.

"Wake up, Caelir."

The black space shattered with a deafening bang. And the golden light swallowed everything.

...

Cael’s eyes snapped open.

A sharp breath tore into his lungs. The air was dense and heavy, thick with mana that pressed against his chest like a living weight.

His heart hammered against his ribs; each beat loud and frantic in the silence of the forest. His body was slick with cold sweat, his clothes clinging to his skin.

He was sitting against a tree trunk. The bark was rough beneath his fingers. The leaves above formed a canopy that filtered the strange, unmoving light of the realm.

The Mermaid’s Flower Garden.

He blinked, trying to clear the fog from his mind. The memory of the dream was already fading, slipping through his fingers like water through a cracked cup.

He tried to hold onto the dream, but the images scattered like dust before he could make sense of them.

A woman’s face hovered at the edge of his memory, her features already blurring. An endless void stretched behind her, dark and cold.

Cael pressed his palm against his forehead. His head throbbed, a dull ache that pulsed behind his eyes.

His thoughts were scattered, fragments of images and emotions that didn’t fit together.

’What was that?’

The dream had felt so real. Like a memory that didn’t belong to him. He didn’t recognize the faces or the places, but the feelings lingered.

The weight of them pressed against his chest like a second heart.

And yet, something about it felt familiar.

"Cael?"

Junior’s voice cut through his thoughts, sharp and clear. The blind boy was sitting a few feet away, his head tilted, his blind eyes fixed in Cael’s direction.

Junior said with concern,

"You were having a nightmare; you were calling out a name. But I couldn’t understand it. It was in a language I don’t know."

Cael frowned. His throat felt raw, as if he had been shouting for hours.

"Calling out what name?"

Junior nodded his head and said,

"I don’t know, but it sounded like... different. It felt old."

Cael closed his eyes and steadied his thoughts, then he asked,

"Where are the clones?"

Junior said while looking at a distance,

"Frostflame and Black Lightning are scouting the area, they said the realm has changed."

Cael looked around. The forest was the same. The same ancient trees with their massive trunks and thick, green leaves.

The same still water channels that cut through the earth like dark mirrors. The same small, unmoving sun hung in the sky, casting the same unchanging light.

But something was different.

The air felt thicker, heavier. The mana that pressed against his skin was more aggressive now, almost alive.

It hummed with a low, vibrating energy that seemed to come from the earth itself.

And there was a sound. A faint and distinct hum that seemed to come from everywhere at once, like a heartbeat buried deep beneath the ground.

"What changed?" Cael asked.

Junior hesitated. His blind eyes shifted as if he was looking at something Cael couldn’t see.

"The artifact," Junior said.

"It is waking up."
