Chapter 67: Chapter 67
Chapter 67
Nobody in the capital would deny that a lady must know tricks, but the tricks they accept are those that are subtle, not the kind that are so obvious they seem foolish. That was why she became the laughingstock of the capital. Well... why would she employ such shallow tricks, anyway?
However, after hearing Yue Qian’s advice along with her characteristic sinister smile, they all had to completely rethink this.
Who would have thought that Yue Qian would consider such minor details? Initially, they had intended to put on a show of diligently caring for the brave soldiers but were always cautious, fearful of tarnishing their appearance or dirtying their clothes, since it would be a pity.
Yue Qian’s advice was contrary, and it even made much sense.
This wasn’t like any plan she had while in the capital. They now had to consider whether Yue Qian became more capable of thinking after having married and moved to the countryside, or had she always been capable.
Even Liu Sun pondered this, her brows furrowing slightly at the thought that perhaps she was the most foolish one. Initially, she thought she was smart and that she could manipulate Yue Qian into exile with ease.
But now it seemed Yue Qian really knew a lot. It wasn’t just about advising women on how to please men, but also about the repercussions if Liu Sun continued to trouble Yue Qian until she had to return to the capital; Liu Sun might end up being the one with most trouble.
Then... why?
If Yue Qian knew all this, why had she acted that way in the past, becoming the fool of the capital, displaying such embarrassing behavior that she was exiled? What was she aiming for?
The more Liu Sun thought, the more she confused. If Yue Qian was so clever, why didn’t she make the Young General love her?
But could he, even if he truly loved someone, be as decisive as Mu Heng? Would he reject the women who approached him and refuse the wealth and positions that came his way?
Mu Heng clearly cared for nothing but Yue Qian. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have refused to meet the Young General. In fact, if Mu Heng wanted money or a job, he could use it in negotiation for divorce, but he declined the invitation, using the excuse of wanting to return to Yue Qian.
How could that represent something other than refusal?
He knew the Young General wanted to marry Yue Qian as per the family agreement, yet he still used an excuse to avoid meeting him, wanting to return to dine with his wife instead.
Even a fool would know that any negotiation aimed at convincing Mu Heng to divorce, no matter the bait, he would never agree to divorce. A man of such resolve... could it be that he was part of Yue Qian’s plan all along?
Liu Sun observed Yue Qian’s small hand gripping Mu Heng’s arm in the way that it seemed like she loved him so much, her eyes then sparkled, her hair standing on end.
This woman before her was too terrifying. She might not just be the Young Villainess Qin anymore, but a Young Demon Qin whose intentions no one could have predicted from the start!
"Thank you for the advice, I will act on it promptly," Liu Sun responded unabashedly. Her friends seemed to regain their composure upon hearing her. They all nodded in understanding.
"Well then, let’s part ways here." Yue Qian, reluctant to converse further with others. She didn’t want to waste more time as her husband hadn’t eaten yet, prompting her desire to return home as quickly as possible.
The young women from the capital could only watch as Yue Qian’s decisive figure disappeared. Once they were out of sight, they looked at each other as if asking, “Do you all think the same?”
"Don’t just stand there exchanging glances. The Young General has already asked us to gather the villagers. Let’s go and help the soldiers," Liu Sun said. She, too, did not want to waste time. She was wearing a white dress, had the advantage as Yue Qian had suggested.
Just sitting amidst the dust would soon reveal the grime on her attire.
However, before she could start assisting anyone, the largest tent in the camp opened, and a tall figure emerged calmly, as if he had calculated the exact moment to appear.
Certainly, his timing was slightly off because the person he wanted to meet had already left.
His thick brows furrowed as he scanned the surroundings but didn’t find the one. He then approached the group of women standing together with a stern look. His gaze focused solely on the petite figure of Liu Sun.
Normally, she would have pretended to blush and hide behind her companions. Whenever the Young General looked her way, she always was happy. But not this time, because she knew he was looking for someone else—someone who wasn’t her!
"Where’s Yue Qian? Didn’t you go to fetch her?" he asked bluntly upon arrival.
The brave soldiers nearby, if it weren’t for him being their general, might have taken a deep breath in shock. But given his bad mood, it seemed better not even to breathe out.
"I did. Miss Qin arrived earlier and has already returned with her husband from the Mu family," Liu Sun replied so softly and politely, although it only seemed to make the Young General furrow his brows even harder. He was not quite pleased.
"She came here and left already? Didn’t you tell her that this was a call for villagers to come and care for the soldiers? There are many others still needing attention, and she just left?"
"Sun’er already informed her. However, her husband was also injured. She was understandably worried and..."
"Just a fake husband! A husband who takes money for marriage, what honor does that hold? Soon, the Qin family will have her marry me as a husband anyway." He was so furious that he seemed to be unaware of things he just said. The Young General said everything in his mind.
Even though he later realized what he had blurted out, he had no intention of correcting himself. After all, she was going to marry him eventually, and Mu Heng was hardly a good husband. He was just a dishonorable man who had accepted money to take a wife. If it weren’t for being punished because Yue Qian had drugged him, do you think a toad like him would ever have a chance to taste a swan?
"But right now, she is his wife. No matter what, she must see her husband as the most important. Previously when she was engaged to you, she saw only you. Now that she is his wife, she sees him in the same way. Miss Qin’s heart has always been like this. Once she’s married to him as his wife, the situation may become irreversible."
Liu Sun voiced her thoughts. Firstly, she wanted him to understand that Yue Qian’s nature hadn’t changed; she had previously pursued only him, seeing only him. Even when ladies of great families tried to get close to the Young General, she would react furiously, drive them away.
Now that she’s married to another, she will think the same way, just changing the target from the Young General to that Mu Heng!
Secondly, the status of husband and wife isn’t something that can be cancelled like an engagement. Once a woman is married, she would not want to separate from her husband, no matter what he turns into. She will love him deeply, unwilling to part.
That’s just how people’s values are. How can he act as if he doesn’t see this? Thinking that because Yue Qian loved him so much in the past, she must still love him?
Ha! She saw it with her own eyes. Yue Qian, whom everyone thought loved the Young General so deeply, her eyes towards Mu Heng were a thousand times deeper! Previously it was just a dead-fish look; little did anyone know that she had someone else in mind from the start, and it was not the Young General at all! She had set her sights on the wrong enemy all along.
On the Young General’s side, after hearing Liu Sun speak like this, his eyes filled with danger. Previously, Liu Sun had always been docile towards him, looking at him with high respect. Why then did he now see a mocking glint in her eyes?
"Who allowed you to opine on what Yue Qian’s marriage should be like?" The Young General remained the Young General. He disliked anyone showing defiance towards him, otherwise why would he have allowed Yue Qian to come here only to face difficulties? All along, he had been contenting with her looks and her fiancée status.
It was all to make her face hardships so that she would crawl back to him, obey him, and finally stop using Qin family’s power!
Liu Sun paused for a moment, realizing she had perhaps spoken too boldly. After all, the Young General was a man of status, especially in public; he couldn’t allow others to disagree with him. Thus, Liu Sun gave him a look of remorse.
"I... I apologize, General. I was just overly concerned," she said with regret and meekness, which caused the Young General to simply wave his hand, signaling her to stop talking since he could not say anything more.
"Never mind, come and tend to my wounds." He wanted to punish Liu Sun for daring to look at him that way.
So, the general called another woman who was hiding among the group of beautiful women from the capital. Seeing him call her instead of Liu Sun as usual, the young woman’s face flushed with excitement.
Seeing this, Liu Sun could only send pleading glances, though her grip on her palm was firm.
"Next time, I hope you will not displease me," he said before taking another woman into the tent, indicating that he was always ready to offer kindness to others.
The eyes of the one outside were red with anger, yet she managed to smile. The petite figure, pretending to look so pitiful, approached the injured soldiers to help them with their wounds, even though her eyes filled with profound sadness.
Because of this demeanor, many soldiers familiar with her comforted her.
"Miss Liu, please don’t be sad, the general might just be upset that we were ambushed."
"Indeed, the original command was to scout and track those evil bandits, but instead, the plan backfired. It’s no wonder he is irate and in a bad mood."
"Wait for the general to calm down a bit, and then you can apply some hot compresses for him. He fought the bandits with many moves. Besides the wounds, he must have many bruises."
"That’s right, Miss Liu. You might also stew some soup for the general tonight. The food supply unit’s food is good, but it’s quite dry," another added in a whisper, worried they might not get to eat this meal.
"Yes, thank you all for your advice. Sun’er will prepare everything and wait," Liu Sun said, her determination so apparent that everyone looked at her with infatuation and affection. Certainly, Liu Sun had to do this; otherwise, how could she find her way back into his heart? Being vulnerable might just be the way to make him choose her.
