Chapter 377: Ambition
Under Firomina’s relentless carpet bombardment, every corrupted corpse on the outskirts of Starnight City was wiped out, including countless ranked undead. She even burned away the lingering traces of corruption on the ground, leaving the gray mist unable to gather for the time being.
"So this is the destructive power of the Divine Chosen of Destruction? Are you serious?"
Aside from being blasted into a mess and still steaming from the explosions, most of the farmland no longer showed any signs of corruption.
The waves of scorching heat left Ophelia drenched in sweat. She was astonished by the terrifying destructive force of the Divine Chosen of Destruction, yet seeing Firomina suffer noticeably eased her mind.
After killing nearly two thousand corrupted corpses, Firomina could no longer endure the headache brought on by the backlash of the world’s laws.
As Phield gently massaged her head, he tried to persuade her.
"Stop forcing yourself. I never expected that even slaughtering corrupted corpses would trigger the backlash."
He had assumed it would only happen when living beings were massacred.
"Mm... a little more to the right. It hurts."
The pain was so overwhelming that Firomina no longer felt like talking. She simply allowed Phield to knead her proud little head however he pleased.
After nearly three minutes of massage, her complexion finally improved. She let out a pitiful little hum before resting her head on Phield’s lap, her face full of melancholy.
"It’s so frustrating... I can’t unleash destruction upon everything before my eyes."
"Incredible. No wonder you managed to destroy the world in a single year. Even as a First Order Divine Chosen of Destruction, your power is already this terrifying." Even Ophelia couldn’t help clicking her tongue in amazement. "Just look at this land. It’s been plowed perfectly. Planting crops is going to save a lot of time now. Nightfall Domain already has a Holy Light dairy cow. This woman can be our Destruction plow ox."
Firomina let out another soft hum, too exhausted to argue.
"That actually gives me an idea. Since killing causes backlash, you could help with mining or digging instead."
Phield wore the expression of a shameless capitalist as he mimed grabbing something with both hands.
"Hehehe... That’ll even save us the cost of explosives."
"Have a little humanity."
Ophelia shook her head with a laugh.
Growing serious again, Phield asked, "Do you think there’s any way to remove those negative traits? I mean... eliminate the world’s rejection."
Ophelia rubbed her chin thoughtfully.
"There has to be. Advancing in rank or receiving help from other Divine Chosen should probably reduce or improve it. I just can’t think of a method right now. We’ll ask around next time."
"Who’s there?"
The sound of someone stepping on a branch immediately put Ophelia on alert. She sprang to her feet and stared toward the bushes.
"Violet? Did she discover something new?"
A familiar figure stood among the brush.
It was Violet, whom they hadn’t seen in quite some time. As a traitor among the corrupted, she had been secretly providing Nightfall Domain with intelligence.
"Kill... kill... kill... First Order Divine Skill..."
The moment she noticed an unfamiliar face, Firomina forgot all about her headache. Divine power surged around her like a rising tide.
Seeing that Firomina was about to transform into a catastrophe again, Phield hurriedly stopped her.
"She’s one of the good guys."
"Hello there, little Violet."
Phield greeted her with a smile.
Violet looked absentminded.
"Hello..."
"What’s wrong? You don’t look like yourself."
Sensing something unusual immediately, Phield asked with concern.
"I..."
Without answering, Violet slowly turned around and walked deeper into the forest.
"Let’s follow her and see."
After checking the minimap and confirming that Violet was the only uncontracted Divine Chosen nearby, Phield hesitated briefly before following.
Firomina quickly grabbed the sleeve of his clothes and floated after him.
Although she could levitate, she actually moved even slower than Rosalia.
The three of them followed Violet through countless twists and turns until they reached the edge of the Viscount’s territory.
Towering mountain ranges separated the two domains. Between two massive peaks stretched an endless corrupted forest, with only a narrow path winding between them, barely wide enough for travelers to pass.
Ferocious corrupted creatures darted through the forest.
Dense hordes of corrupted corpses wandered aimlessly toward them. There were simply too many undead within Nightfall Domain already, so these weaker ones had been pushed into its borders.
By then, Violet had completely disappeared.
"Trash lord, we can’t go any farther. If we run into a Third Order Divine Chosen or stronger, we’ll be in serious trouble."
As Ophelia spread out her corpse army to scout while clearing the way, she continued,
"Just because she helped us before doesn’t mean she’s trustworthy. Besides, you’ll never understand how the minds of corrupted creatures work."
"You’re right."
Phield nodded in agreement.
"Let’s stop following her."
The minimap had become almost impossible to look at. Countless red skull markers completely covered it, staining the entire map crimson.
"What exactly is Violet trying to do? Where was she trying to lead us?"
Staring toward the place where Violet had disappeared, Phield finally shook his head.
"Let’s head back. Before we leave, we’ll block off the road leading to the Viscount’s territory. The fewer corrupted corpses that reach us, the smoother our construction plans will be."
If they wanted to develop on a large scale, sealing the entrances used by the undead was absolutely necessary.
Very few new corrupted corpses now originated within Nightfall Domain itself. Most of them simply wandered in from surrounding territories.
"Good thing we brought plenty of rubble and junk."
Standing with effortless elegance, Ophelia crossed one long leg over the other and casually snapped her fingers.
Her corpse army immediately began pushing the wooden carts toward the narrow mountain pass.
"That’s far too slow. It’ll take forever."
Firomina impatiently waved her hand.
"Just let me handle it. It’ll be done in an instant."
"Just don’t blow up the whole forest."
Ophelia covered her mouth with a smile.
"The number of corrupted corpses is endless. If they pour through here, our territory will be in trouble."
"How troublesome."
Firomina turned her head away proudly.
"Wait, that actually gave me an idea."
Phield struck one fist into his palm.
"Just blast a section of the cliffs on both sides so they collapse into the middle. As long as they can stop ordinary corrupted corpses, that’s enough. High ranking ones won’t be blocked anyway."
"Of course I can. But how are you going to repay me?"
"You’re setting conditions now?"
Phield thought for a moment.
"Just so we’re clear, I won’t help you slaughter innocent people."
"Then I have no conditions."
Firomina turned around and casually waved her hand.
Countless cross shaped beams of starlight burst forth.
"What is wrong with you?"
Phield was left speechless.
Why was this woman obsessed with nothing but killing? She had been clutching her head in pain just moments ago.
Looks like she’s going to need some proper education... with love.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A series of violent explosions echoed through the mountains.
The cliffs on both sides collapsed, and enormous boulders crashed down, forming a rough barrier that completely blocked the road leading toward the Viscount’s territory, making it nearly impossible for ordinary corrupted corpses to pass.
"Ophelia, have your corpses fill the remaining gaps with the rubble we brought. When we eventually march into the Viscount’s territory, we can clear it away again."
"Huh? You’re actually planning to launch a campaign even farther north?"
Ophelia stared at him in surprise.
"Of course. Just not yet."
After completely reclaiming Nightfall Domain, I’ll move on to reclaim Cloud Veil and Dawnfall as well. Nightfall Domain alone isn’t nearly enough for our future development.
