Chapter 1011: Chapter 1011: Safety First

This meal was quite enjoyable for Liu Banxia, especially since little Doudou only ate two slices of beef before sitting beside him, watching him eat intently.

I guess her little world is filled with longing, she truly can’t eat that much.

"Haha, look at how my little girl envies this." Qiu Huaili said cheerfully.

"Doudou seems to be growing quite fast lately, her little arms and legs seem pretty strong." Liu Banxia said.

"She can really eat now, her little mouth is never idle." Wang Jingxian said.

"I can rest tomorrow, need to stay at home and relax for a day. The day after tomorrow, it’s back to the battle." Liu Banxia stretched lazily.

"Oh..., it’s really tough for you to get a day off. You won’t have to rush to work in the middle of the night, right? Aren’t there plenty of doctors on your side?" Qiu Huaili asked.

Liu Banxia took a piece of meat near the drumstick from the bone and placed it in Doudou’s small bowl, "The key is what kind of patients we have. Both of these girls can handle common traumas."

"But when it comes to patients with spleen, gastrointestinal, liver, or kidney injuries, they are quite prevalent in emergency admissions."

"We’re relatively alright with more people, but the heart and neurosurgery departments are really busy. Today at work, we admitted a delivery guy who got into a car accident; he hit his head. We’re treating him conservatively for now to see if we can reduce intracranial pressure."

"He probably won’t pass the danger period until tomorrow. If the pressure doesn’t decrease, we’ll have to operate. The main responsibility for the accident lies with him, so if he needs surgery, his family might be completely overwhelmed."

"Teacher Liu, don’t their contractors manage any of this?" Xu Yino asked curiously.

"Manage what? If the manager wasn’t just watching for fun and upfronted the money, it’s already having a conscience." Liu Banxia said.

"Right, when we were chatting, you weren’t there. The ride-share driver was complaining too. They only care about complaints and fines, not about anything else."

"Oh... It’s really tough." Wang Jingxian also sighed.

"We just said at the time, everyone has their own difficulties. The ride-share driver makes about ten thousand a month. Whether it’s a lot or a little depends on whether he can endure the hard work." Liu Banxia said. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"It’s really challenging. In the service industry, you serve people. Some customers understand and give good reviews, while others treat minor issues as major ones, thinking they’re being served like gods because they took a ride-share."

"Haven’t there been many reports on the news? How do they often report things? Initially, it’s the ride-share service’s fault, then it flip-flops, and it’s someone else’s fault."

"Regarding this incident of mine, I’m secretly amused. No one smeared me online first and then waited for me to defend myself. I’ve already felt very content."

Everyone laughed; Liu Banxia had been led into public opinion disputes a few times before.

"Teacher Liu, does that make you quite the internet celebrity now? You’ve not only gained fame online but also been frequently featured on TV." Xu Yino said.

"So the situation seems to be better than expected, haven’t seen other negative comments online, mainly supportive ones, or just plain spectators."

Liu Banxia nodded, "There might be some impact from that, but I genuinely don’t care much now. You two remember, go back and study NOSES surgery well; the day after tomorrow, you’re on stage."

"Hehe, Teacher Liu, if this surgery is successful, might you get an interview?" Xu Yino asked curiously.

Qiu Huaili got interested too, "Brother, is this surgery very impressive?"

"Don’t listen to her exaggeration, it’s just slightly complex, not as exaggerated as she says." Liu Banxia replied with a smile.

"And it’s for rectal cancer, let’s wait till we do something more complex; then there might be a reason for publicity. For this one, I’d be embarrassed to even promote it; it’s basic operations."

"Anyway, it seems there’s a certain level of skill involved." Qiu Huaili said.

"That’s not bad, though this surgical system is easy to get into, getting higher is a bit challenging. Even I don’t have much confidence, currently only doing some routine surgeries." Liu Banxia said.

"When we do surgeries, we truly can’t focus on novelty, the primary goal should always be to address the patient’s ailments."

"For now, I’m just daring to try a bit; if it gets more complex, I use conventional laparoscopy techniques. I always feel it’s safety first no matter what."

"This point was particularly strong in my feelings today. Doing surgery for a three-year-old child, it needs to be fast, precise, but ultimately steady was my priority."

"At that moment during surgery, I wasn’t thinking about anything else, just focusing on what I saw and thought about the procedure. Surprisingly, we didn’t waste much time."

"You two should also take note; during surgery, stability and speed often conflict. No matter what’s going on in your mind, you must always put the patient’s safety first."

"If not, if the patient can’t get off the table or if there are many postoperative complications, it will not only be very troublesome in the future, but it will also affect your confidence during surgery."

"I heard you talk behind my back, saying that the rate of complications among my surgical patients is relatively low. But what I want to remind you is that only by paying more attention during surgery can we reduce the rate of complications."

"Some complications are unavoidable, otherwise, they wouldn’t be called complications. It’s because there are disease mechanisms we can’t fully understand, at most we can make some educated guesses."

The two girls nodded in unison. Liu Banxia was speaking very seriously, and since this was a genuine lesson, they had to listen carefully.

Qiaoqiao, who was happily eating pig knuckles on the side, gave Liu Banxia a pat, "It’s rare for the two girls to have time to come over for a meal, why are you lecturing them?"

"It’s mealtime now, even Doudou can focus on eating. You just have to bring up work. Be good, eat up, no talking about work."

"Good, Doudou’s good." Doudou happily held up a piece of sauced beef and shook it.

Everyone burst into laughter; this little one was quite a witty bean.

"Teacher Liu, we’ve eaten enough, we’ll head out first."

After eating a bit more, Xu Yino and Liu Yiqing stood up.

"So busy all the time, take the fruit with you and take it slow on the road," Liu Banxia said.

"Teacher Liu, no need to get up, keep eating, we’re really leaving." Liu Yiqing said.

"Not being formal with you two; after all, you’re not outsiders. Take it slow on the road, don’t rush to the hospital just because it’s late. There’s no need to hurry." Liu Banxia said.

The two girls nodded with a smile, then happily picked up the fruit, gestured to everyone, and left.

"You really take good care of your students," Qiu Huaili said.

"Isn’t it because learning medicine is so difficult? Many people get eliminated in the process," Liu Banxia said.

"They have to stay motivated to keep learning. Otherwise, it’s really not that easy to learn, nor is it easy to endure."

"Constantly pressuring and praising, learning and having fun is the way to keep their spirits up. Otherwise, as soon as they relax, the first, second, third breaths come so liberatingly."

"Actually, it’s only because of knowing you that I realize being a doctor is not easy. But I have to say, not every doctor can be like you; there are still quite a few just drifting along, right?" Qiu Huaili said.

Liu Banxia nodded, "That’s without a doubt. No matter the job, there will always be people just filling in. But my skills aren’t that exceptional; today I saw the gap between me and our director."

"Actually, sometimes it’s really hard to define medical skills. But often there’s a big trend related to economics; places with relatively backward economies also have relatively scarce medical resources."

"These medical resources aren’t just about materials and equipment but people too. People flow towards big cities, places with poor economies can’t retain people."

"Then the number of consultations drops, and eventually, it’s a vicious cycle. Even if a county hospital has an emergency department, it may not be able to satisfactorily complete its consultation tasks."

"Unlike us here, just a few days of emergency cases are equivalent to their entire year. We have so many surgeries every day in our operating rooms."

"Surgeons, sometimes, really can’t be lazy; if you stay off the operating table too long, your hands become unpracticed. Anyway, don’t just listen to me venting; once you really understand it, you can make money."

"At least I’m trying to be economically independent now. Though I’m not doing as many surgeries as before, they’re relatively major ones. And with the salary and allowances combined, it’s quite decent."

Qiu Huaili laughed, acknowledging that achieving "economic independence" isn’t so easy. He knows how things are between this couple: one’s worried about not having enough to spend, and the other’s got nowhere to spend it.

That’s what he admires about Liu Banxia; he doesn’t seem to care much about other things. The only thing he seems to care about is food? He often comes to my house to mooch meals too.

As for clothes, cars, shoes, and watches, he’s really never cared.

After eating, Liu Banxia was quite satisfied. Although Tang Dou was eyeing the big bone on the table, Liu Banxia didn’t dare give it to him.

The oil and salt on it are a bit much, and he wants Tang Dou to live a few more years, to accompany him and Qiaoqiao more.

You can’t neglect this; if you think an occasional treat won’t matter, you’ll find out those "occasions" are too frequent.
