Chapter 158: Didn’t say hello?

From Alistair and Anastasia’s battle, I had come to realize that those with Omega ranked physiques were simply on another level. Be it their actual body constitution, or the power of the abilities they wielded. And I was made even more sure of that during my own fight with her. We were just that different.

The ground beneath Hannah’s boots exposed in chunks of earth as she rushed at me with an overhead slash, but in a seemingly unhurried fashion, I sidestepped, then tapped the side of her blade with the back of my palm.

A pocket of air spread outward from the point of impact, as the blow almost launched the sword out of her hands, and it would have if not for the fact that she moved her body along with the force.

While it might have looked like I simply tapped the sword’s blade, in reality, I had put a considerable amount of force behind that seemingly ordinary tap.

After regaining her bearings, Hannah didn’t waste a second, she seemingly disappeared from her spot and appeared behind me. The air was displaced as her sword cut towards my neck.

However, her sword simply cut through me as if I wasn’t there, which was technically true. I appeared behind her faster than she could react, leaving a genuine mirage in my place rather than an after image, courstey to the mirage steps.

Bang!

While she was busy cutting through the mirage, I connected a brutal kick to her side. She folded almost completely in half, before she launched to the side and crashed by the side of the lake.

’Weak.’ I thought. She was way weaker than I thought. For someone with beta rank potential, she was not putting up much of a struggle despite being two ranks above me. Granted, I wasn’t really in the realm of Eta+ rank in terms of actual strength, but she was still a disappointment. Though that, could be because she hadn’t began to use her ability.

Meanwhile, Hannah caught herself by skidding on the ground until she screeched to a halt. Her expression narrowed. Perhaps just from this small exchange, she had realized that I was anything but weak.

"Giving up already?" I taunted.

"Do not insult me." Her royal blue eyes narrowed further. "I’m just slightly taken aback by your strength that’s all." She said, straightening up.

Suddenly I felt an invisible force trying to hold me in place, before I could wrench free however, a rapidly advancing sword filled my vision. It took most of the strength I had to resist the force and bend my spine backwards, letting the sword pass mere inches above the shell of my mask.

Hannah was the same, she went along with her sword and passed above me. The moment she did however, I spun and extended my hand towards one of her legs, however before I could catch on to it, the same invisible force from before knocked my hand backwards.

I had forgotten the name given to Hannah’s ability, but it was basically some form of telekinesis. So as the fight continued, I had to make sure that the moment I felt the invisible force trying to get hold of me, I instantly flickered away from that spot.

I took a step back avoiding Hannah’s glowing sword, which was immediately followed by a spinning kick which I ducked under and promptly caught that leg. It happens so fast that there wasn’t any time for Hannah to put up that telekinetic defense. With all my strength, I hurled her into the lake.

Hannah hit the water with a massive splash, skidding across the surface for several meters before coming to a stop. There were techniques that allowed one to walk and even run on water, but it appeared Hannah was doing so using her ability.

I didn’t give her a moment to rest though. A sonic boom echoed as I disappeared from my spot, I moved so fast that my legs didn’t sink in the water. However just short of reaching her, a wave of water exploded in my direction. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

It was too fast to avoid, and turning back would lower my speed and would likely make me sink. So in a spur of the moment, I decided to try something.

I drew my arm back, infusing my fist with around a quarter of the aether I currently held, then punched with all my strength at the wave, and released the concentrated aether in an outward burst at the moment of impact.

A powerful shockwave that rattled the surroundings billowed outwards, from my fist, and crashed into the wave, punching a clean hole straight through it, and producing an even stronger shockwave that sent torrents of water flying everywhere.

What I had just did was try to copy the technique Calum had used against me. Since I was in disguise, I of course couldn’t use my techniques, that would be a dead giveaway of my identity, or at least a giveaway that it was a Darkfell.

I actually didn’t think the attack would work, but in the end it all played out well, more than well even. I just needed to refine it a bit, and I could...

Bang!

However, while I was suspended mid air from my recent attack, the annoying invisible force caught me off guard and hit me like a freight train. It was no sooner than I hit the walls of the cave did I feel the phantom pain from my ribs.

My eyes instantly snapped to Hannah whose wet figure slowly rose from the water as she proceeded to step back onto the invisible platform in which she had been using to stay afloat.

’Aiiish!’ I couldn’t help but curse. This fight was taking longer than it had the right to. I was sure that by now we had drawn the attention of everyone remotely close to this area.

’No, this won’t do.’ I had to get that sphere and disappear from here before anyone else showed up. Just as I finished that train of thought, Hannah bent her legs and jumped off the platform she had been standing on and landed on the ground. Almost instantly, she rushed at me.

I instantly got onto my feet, and flickered to the side, letting her sword scrape past me, then caught hold of her hand, and delivered a crushing punch to her guts. She folded in half almost instantly.

I was playing around no more. I was still holding onto her hand, so she didn’t launch backwards like she would have if such a powerful attack landed on her. She recovered fairly quickly and launched a kick underneath my jaw.

Unfortunately for her, I blocked it with my palm. I then wrenched her sword from her grip, held her neck and slammed her on the cave wall behind us.

Hannah coughed up a mouthful of blood from the impact, before I let her slump down the wall.

"Stay down, girl, I won’t ask a second time." I said. I didn’t want to kill her, and I couldn’t even if I wanted to. Killing her would bring along a massive complication. I was sure her grandmother would go to extreme ends to find the culprit. And I didn’t in anyway want to become the target of an Alpha ranked being.

So i turned towards what brought me here in the first place. However, the moment I did, my instincts screamed. I instantly leaned my head to the side, and a bolt of light went past my face less than an inch from my skin.

’This bitch!’ I cursed genuinely angry. I swiftly turned and saw Hannah barely standing but the resolve in her eyes was no joke.

Sighing, I threw the sword I had wrenched from her hand back at her. The sword reached her near instantly, and pierced into her shoulder, then into the wall behind her. Keeping her mounted to the wall.

’That should keep her occupied until I’m gone.’ I thought, looking around.

Despite the fight and the damage to our surroundings, the silver sphere was still there, gently suspended above the settling lake.

With a bend of my legs, I jumped towards the centre of the lake, took the silver sphere, and landed on the other side. I didn’t wait to admire it, and instantly put it into my storage ring.

After that, I took a glance at Hannah’s figure. While I would have loved to wait and taunt her, I had to quickly leave this place.

"So long, girl." I turned... or at least tried to. A feeling of foreboding gradually overcame me.

"You came to steal something from my association and didn’t come to say hello?" An amused female voice echoed throughout the entire cave.
