"Sis, what’s wrong?"
Ye Yunfeng, who had walked a few steps ahead, sensed something and turned back to ask.
Ye Chutang retracted her gaze and seemed to smile. "It’s nothing. I was just thinking... Lan Yue Building’s business is as bustling as ever."
"Tell me about it!" Ye Yunfeng tutted. "At first, I thought that by opening across from them, we’d definitely steal their business. Now it seems I was overthinking it."
Ye Jingyan, however, didn’t seem surprised. He said, "One is a restaurant, and the other is a tavern. They’re fundamentally different."
Many of Lan Yue Building’s dishes were exceptional. Since its opening, business had been explosive. Even with Yunlai Tavern now open across the street, they hadn’t been affected in the slightest.
Just then, a woman’s sharp, hoarse cry suddenly came from up ahead.
"Do you have any idea who I am? How dare you try to throw me out!"
The voice sounded somewhat familiar...
Ye Yunfeng’s sharp brows knitted together as he looked over. "Isn’t that Mrs. Gao!? What is she doing here?"
The street was bustling with people. Mrs. Gao stood right at the entrance of Yunlai Tavern, her face flushed red as she screamed hysterically.
She yelled as she tried to force her way inside, only to be bluntly blocked by the servant at the door.
"Yunlai Tavern’s policy requires a reservation in advance. Since you’ve come so abruptly, we really can’t let you in. Please don’t make things difficult for us."
"Nonsense!" Mrs. Gao’s eyes were bloodshot, with dark circles underneath. She looked far more haggard and destitute than before, a far cry from the glamorous Lady of the Junior Minister of the Ministry of Justice she once was.
She pointed a finger at them and cursed loudly, "I’ve already been here so many times! Every single time you say you’re full and tell me to come back later! You’re clearly doing this on purpose!"
The commotion attracted the surrounding crowd, which unknowingly formed several circles around them. They watched the scene with varied expressions.
Some were just watching for entertainment, some were curious, and others were gloating, eager to see how Yunlai Tavern would handle this trouble.
"Isn’t that Mrs. Gao? What’s she doing here?"
"What else? She’s here to cause trouble, obviously!"
"Everyone knows this Yunlai Tavern belongs to that Second Miss Ye and it’s making a killing. Mrs. Gao just had her family assets seized, and she’s always been on bad terms with Second Miss Ye. Seeing how things are now, how could she not be green with envy?"
"I’d say so. Causing a scene like this is bound to affect Yunlai Tavern’s business. No matter what, she’s still Second Miss Ye’s paternal aunt and an elder. If this gets too ugly, it’ll make Second Miss Ye look bad, too..."
Ye Yunfeng was so furious he laughed. "Just great! She’s afraid we’re doing too well! Going to all this trouble just to come here and start something! I’d like to see what she can possibly do now—"
As he spoke, he was about to step forward but was pulled back by Ye Jingyan.
"Don’t be hasty."
Ye Yunfeng turned back. "Third Brother! Are we really just going to stand here and let her walk all over us!?"
Ye Jingyan lifted his chin. "The servants are handling it, aren’t they? A single Mrs. Gao isn’t worth you getting involved."
Ye Yunfeng wanted to say more, but Ye Jingyan added, "If they can’t even handle a small problem like this, then Yunlai Tavern might as well not bother staying open in the Capital City."
Hearing this, Ye Yunfeng instantly calmed down quite a bit.
’He’s right. We can’t be watching over the place all the time. Today it’s Mrs. Gao; who knows who’ll come looking for trouble tomorrow?’
Blocked and humiliated, Mrs. Gao flew into a rage. Just as the servant was about to drag her away, she caught sight of a figure in her peripheral vision and immediately cried out with excitement, as if she had just seen her savior:
