Chapter 212: My Family: The End

>>Hope

My name is Dragona Hope von Dravos, and I’m the oldest daughter of King Draegon and Queen Aelin.

I have long blonde hair like my mom, purple eyes like my dad, and Grandma Seraphine says those eyes are exactly like hers too. My black wings and tail are still small, my horns barely peek through my hair, but right here on my forehead... I have the sun symbol.

I love it.

It glows faintly when I use my magic, and whenever I catch my reflection in a mirror, I feel proud. Mom says the sun means life and hope, and that’s exactly what she named me after.

From her side, I got strong healing and defensive magic. I can mend small wounds with my hands, make protective barriers, and even push away dark magic if I try hard enough. From Dad’s side... well, let’s just say my punches hurt. A lot.

Today, I decided to go see Grandma Seraphine first thing in the morning. She’s in her garden, where the flowers always bloom brighter than anywhere else in the palace. Her hair shines so pretty and her eyes are so kind, I always feel safe with her.

"Grandma!" I call, running up to her. My wings flutter behind me, even though they’re too small to help me fly yet.

She turns, and her smile lights up everything. "There’s my little sunbeam," she says, crouching down to my height.

I giggle and run straight into her arms. She smells like jasmine and something sweet I can never quite name.

"You’ve grown again," she teases, holding me at arm’s length to look at me. "Soon you’ll be taller than me."

I puff out my chest. "Of course! I have to be tall and strong like Dad. But also... I have the sun symbol like Mom." I tap my forehead proudly.

Her gaze softens even more, and she kisses the spot gently. "It suits you. The sun belongs to you just as much as it belonged to her."

We sit together on a stone bench in the garden while she braids a few strands of my hair. I tell her about how I healed one of the palace cats yesterday after it hurt its paw. She tells me stories about when Dad was little, how he used to try to fly before his wings were ready and how he once fell into the fountain in this very garden.

We laugh until my stomach hurts. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

After leaving Grandma, I run back inside the palace to find my little brothers, Darkon and Draco. They’re the twins, both with black hair, mischievous purple eyes, and bigger wings than mine even though they’re younger. (I still think it’s unfair.)

They both have the symbol of the sun on their forehead too but it’s very dim right now. Mom says it’ll mature as they do.

I find them in the nursery, chasing each other in circles.

"Stop running, you’ll break something!" I shout, but they just grin at me.

"Hope! Hope!" Darkon bounces up to me first, tugging my hand. "Come see the tower we made!"

"It’s not a tower," Draco interrupts, puffing up. "It’s a fortress!"

They drag me to the corner where they’ve stacked pillows, blankets, and a few wooden blocks in a messy pile. I crouch down to inspect it seriously. "Hmm. Needs better walls."

"Then help us!" they say together, eyes wide with expectation.

So I do. I use my little magic shield spell to hold the top blanket in place while they pile more blocks underneath. When we’re done, it’s... well... still crooked. But they’re happy, and that’s what matters.

As I leave them to play, they both run up and hug me around the waist. "You’re the best big sister," Darkon says.

I grin, ruffling their hair. "Of course I am." I then began to walk away

"Where are you going?" They asked but I only grinned back at them

The palace was quiet after lunch, which usually meant Dad was in his study, reading those huge pile of paper work and boring things.

I had a plan.

A genius plan.

I crept along the hallway, my little wings tucked tight to my back so they wouldn’t bump into anything. My bare feet made no sound against the polished floor. I was going to sneak up behind him, jump into his lap, and shout, "Gotcha!"

But when I reached the door to his study, it was already open a little. I peeked in.

And... froze.

Dad was sitting on the edge of his desk, not reading at all. Mom was standing between his legs, her hands resting on his shoulders while he looked at her like she was the only thing in the entire world.

He tucked a loose strand of her blonde hair behind her ear, his trimmed claws careful not to catch. "You’ve been working too hard again," he said in that deep, warm voice he only uses with her.

She smiled, soft and teasing. "And you’ve been worrying too much again."

He pulled her closer until her hands were on his chest. "If worrying keeps you safe, I’ll never stop."

My tail curled behind me without me even thinking about it. They looked... so happy. So warm. Like the air between them was glowing.

Mom laughed at something he whispered , that laugh that makes everyone in the palace smile, and Dad leaned down to kiss her forehead.

I couldn’t help grinning as I watched them. My chest felt all light and floaty. I liked seeing them like this. It made the whole world feel safe.

I heard that there was a time that demons and humans didn’t get along,

But my mom was human and my dad was a demon, yet they got along so well

Infact,

My mama was the dragon king’s beloved wife. The whole world knew that.

I quietly backed away from the door, deciding maybe I didn’t need to jump into his lap today

Instead, I skipped down the hallway, my wings fluttering. I didn’t have to see my parents love each other to know it was there , but it was really nice when I did.
