Chapter 81: To appease a lady he offended
Ryle was leaning against the couch in his room as he looked at back where his two pet parrots flew from tree to tree, following each other. He had one of them for a long time, the other he got for Maxim’s birthday gift but the man refused to accept it. He had spent some time with his parrot but he did not seem to have a good time with it so he refused one as a gift. Left with no choice, Ryle had to bring the female one home and somehow both of them ended up becoming a pair.
"Then after all the conditions were discussed an all, Miss Chen did not seem to be very pleased about it.’’
’’Oh, what was she not pleased about?" Ryle ate another strawberry, twirling his tongue over the chocolate as he pulled it in, the unconscious movement accidentally giving him a flashback from a few days ago when Daisy had pressed her lips against his in that secluded balcony while outside a full-blown party was going on for the annual event of their family.
"So sloppy,’’ he mumbled, thinking about her wet and clumsy kisses. But his body did not coordinate with his tongue, as a strange heat grew inside him.
Sloppy? Benjamin could not understand the trail of his thoughts.
Was he calling their work process sloppy? Or his narrating style was sloppy according to the man?
Straightening his back, he explained in a more high-pitched voice, ’’According to her, she is not an object who can be objectified by the mention of a lifetime contract.’’
The heat inside Ryle’s body dissipated. He placed the fork in the bowl and turned around to look at Benjamin, ’’How exactly did you convey my conditions to her?"
’’Boss, the lawyer mentioned what he showed in the document where he filed your final statement. $50 billion for a compensation or a lifetime contract.’’
Ryle massaged the space between his brows, ’’Then why did she have trouble understanding something as simple as that?"
Benjamin opened his mouth to explain it but knowing that he could not make the situation any better, he closed his mouth again.
’’What were you doing when she thought I was objectifying her?"
Benjamin was flabbergasted, he did not see that flying bullet approaching him out of nowhere when he thought he had dodged the trouble by closing his mouth, ’’I... I...’’
"Did you explain?"
’’I was trying to...’’
’’Forget it, you are useless,’’ Ryle paced in front of the couch, a thoughtful expression on his face.
Relieved, Benjamin nodded frantically, ’’Yes, Boss.’’
’’How do you appease a woman who has misunderstood your intentions?" Ryle looked at Benjamin after a few minutes.
The man paused, blinked and then his brain stopped reading. Boss, let me rephrase the question for you. How do you expect to appease a woman after filing a whole ass lawsuit against her? Just how delusional are you?
’’You don’t even know that?" Ryle clicked his tongue when Benjamin remained silent, ’’What did I hire you for?"
To drive your cars, not your life that you mess up with your own creativity. Benjamin gave the man a stiff smile despite wanting to give him a dose of his sassiness.
’’Brainstorm something even if you are clueless,’’ the man said.
’’Um.. Boss, how about flowers, the last time Mr. Lu sent daisies for Miss Chen, she carried them back with her...’’
Ryle frowned, ’’No need to mention that man. I don’t think she carried it back because she was fond of them.’’
’’Ah, no?" Benjamin blinked. Didn’t you also recently encounter Miss Chen? Why do you sound like you know her inside out?
While he was lost in his thoughts, Ryle proceeded with his explanation, ’’She had been disguising herself as Dexter and the bouquet of flowers were sent at her work address, that is to the Harper Societies. For her to carry all the way back with her on a bike with all that hassle, only a person who has something to hide will do that.’’
As he spoke, even Ryle came to a realization, ’’And that explains why back in the ball of the Lu Family, Lu Xian framed that woman by saying that she tried to harm Dexter,’’ his eyes narrowed. Lu Xian knew that Daisy was Dexter and the man did not want him to know that.
They were in this together for a long time, weren’t they?
Benjamin felt like it was suddenly cold inside the room. He cleared his throat, ’’So, boss, we...’’
Ryle closed his eyes and twisted his neck slightly, massaging the nape of his neck with his fingertips. After a few seconds, his usual playful stature was back on his face as he said, ’’She might like flowers but flowers will not solve this matter.’’
Benjamin blinked, ’’Ah?"
’’Are you dumb?"
Boss, the intricacies of your mind are burning up my braincells way too fast for my own good. At this point, even I don’t know if I am dumb or you are too smart for me to decipher your logic.
’’If she thinks I am demeaning her by objectifying her, it’s only normal for her to misunderstand my intentions further if I send her flowers and not a proper explanation. That is not the ideal way to deal with a woman. So, what I will do instead is...’’
’Ding’

Ryle’s phone beeped twice, interrupting the man’s words.
He pulled it out and glanced at the notification on top but within a moment, his expression changed.
’’What happened, Boss?" Like an old deer caught in headlights, Benjamin quickly became alert, his Spidey senses tingling.
Ryle did not respond for a long time and as the seconds trickled by, Benjamin’s heart rose to his throat. There was something weird about Ryle’s expressions, he did not seem unhappy or in a bad mood but at the same time, he also seemed to be slightly taken aback.
Ryle walked to sit on the couch as he placed his phone on the coffee table and crossed his legs.
Benjamin’s eyes unconsciously flew to the phone screen and his eyes widened like saucers. there was a notification of a transaction of $50 billion to the company account, along with a message that read.
’Here’s an attachment of the recording of your lawyer’s words along with the CCTV footage of the apartment. The lawsuit and our business relationship ends here.’
Benjamin was astounded. The words were very precise but the woman managed to cover every loophole they could have taken out.
Not only did she settle the lawsuit with the unreasonably huge amount of money but beyond their observation, she somehow managed to record their conversation as well. None of them noticed it.
Benjamin was a sharp man and he had not seen any of her abnormal movements from the moment she appeared at the door. That meant, she probably turned the recording on when the other woman named Ivy opened the door.
And in case anyone as shrewd as their boss claimed that the recording was forged, she even managed to cover the thing with the CCTV footage, where any expert can read the lips of the lawyers. By closing the dead ends, she ensured that nothing more could be used against her.
’’Did you tell me how your confrontation ended?" Ryle gazed at Benjamin, breaking the trail of the man’s wandering thoughts, ’’What was the last thing she said to you?"
Benjamin realized that the moment he mentioned that the woman was offended, they went off topic as suddenly, his boss had the idea of appeasing the same woman whom he offended through his own actions.
"Boss... she was about to leave... when Mr. Lu appeared in front of her house.... H-He...’’ the man stuttered unconsciously when the temperature around him dropped, ’’He called it inappropriate for you to send us over to the lady’s doorstep. And he said that this amount of money was a trifle. And... And...’’
’’Hmm?"
’’And he will help her settle it...’’ he trailed off.
There was no need for any other question to be answered for anyone to understand what had transpired.
Ryle glanced at the phone.
She stooped to taking help from the man whose family she had a tiff with.
