Chapter 74: Mommy... Raaeel...
Ryle turned around suddenly and started walking in the opposite direction, confusing Daisy but since it seemed like he knew his way around the place, she followed him without questions.
A long time passed and the man did not answer her question. When Daisy thought he would not be talking about it, he spoke up, ’’The third time was the last time,’’ he mumbled.
Daisy paused, waiting for the man to explain. She looked at his back expectantly but he continued walking without another word and Daisy knew that’s where he was closing the topic.
"Where are we going....’’
Daisy trailed off when the man’s footsteps came to a halt and a warm light sparkled in her eyes as she looked up at the sky that was covered with countless paper lanterns. The reflection of the lanterns fell on the lake that stretched to a long space behind the fair arena.
’’You did not tell me how many times you have been to this place,’’ Ryle approached Daisy to question her when he saw the unhidden awe on her face. Cute, he thought.
’’Not even once,’’ Daisy responded calmly, finally recovering from the beauty of the view.
Ryle frowned, ’’I don’t believe you,’’ Spring Festival was not even a significant part of their lives but he had been thrice to it because of his mother and her connection to this place.
’’Our parents were busy. Diana was sent to my grandparents in US and I stayed in Beijing,’’ Daisy responded, thinking back to it. That was probably first point of difference between her and her parents when they separated them from each other so the both of them could grow up to be the appropriate heiresses of the Chen Family without being up to any mischief.
Their childhood was spent in grievances and expectations and the adulthood did not leave any urge to visit fairs or things like such.
All that was left was a craving for freedom, to break free from the shackles that bound her to the surname.
’’Uahh... mommy... no...’’ Angel started struggling in Ryle’s arms.
He held her firmly however the little girl swung her arms and tiny legs, attempting to get down on the ground.
Ryle and Daisy looked at each other in confusion before Daisy reached out towards the little goirl.
But Angel pushed her hand away, still struggling to get down from the man’s arms.
"I think I know what she wants,’’ Ryle’s eyes lit up in understanding.
Daisy looked at him,
"She probably wants to pee but she is reluctant to pee on my stunning suit. Angel sure is considerate.’’
"_"
"Are you done?" Daisy gave him a ’Do you eat delusions for dinner’ look.
’’Huh?" Ryle blinked, ’’Is that not it?"
’’She is wearing diapers,’’ Daisy deadpanned.
Ryle placed Angel down to her feet on the ground and held her hand, letting the little girl lead him.
Angel stumbled a few times as she walked towards a particular direction, her gaze would fly back every time to make sure that Daisy was following them as well.
A few minutes later when the girl got tired, she stopped walking and rached her hands towards Ryle who immediately picked her up in her arms, ’’Are we there yet?"
Angel responded to his question some gibberish.
But Ryle continued questioning her patiently, ’’What is it that you wanted to show to us?"
Daisy looked at the man in a daze, realizing that it was probably the first time that she heard him talking in a tone so soft, so gentle.
’’Do you have kids?" Daisy could not help but ask out of nowhere.
Ryle gave her a ’Are you mad’ stare.
Daisy shook her head with a straight face, ’’You are good with kids.’’
’’I am good with women as well, but does that mean I have one?"
’’You have been with many,’’ the words slipped off Daisy’s mouth before she could even realize that she was not disguised as Dexter in that moment. And by the time, it dawned on her, Ryle’s expressions had changed from playful to an amused one.
’’Pray tell me, how do you know that I have been with many women?" Ryle turned towards her, eyes narrowing, ’’Either you are an obsessed little stalker of mine or you are someone with ulterior motives, which one is true?" his tone did not change in the slightest, perhaps he was conscious of Angel’s presence but a dangerous glint flashed in his eyes as he looked at her.
Daisy saw that look on his face, the challenge that if she messed with him, she not get away scot-free.
And on the first instinct, she moved to get Angel from his arms, ’’You are thinking too much,’’ she reached towards the little girl but she shrunk in Ryle’s arms.
The little traitor hugged the man’s neck, ’’Mommy... Raaeel...’’
Daisy’s eyes widened. Did she just say Ryle?
’’Pfft,’’ Ryle burst into a peal of laughter, ’’She just said that she wants to be with me.’’
Daisy’s lips twitched and the atmosphere suddenly lightened.
’’There... mommy... there,’’ Angel pointed her little hand in the direction of a row of boats lined up one corner of the lake.
"You want to sit on a boat?" Daisy poked her cheeks.
’’Sit... on boat..’’
Angel jumped into Daisy’s arms and an instinctive victorious smile crept up on Daisy’s lips that did not go unnoticed by Ryle.
The man suppressed his laughter as he led the mother-daughter duo towards the boat.
’’She was so excited about it but she dozed off the moment she got on the boat,’’ Ryle looked at Angel who was softly snoring on Daisy’s lap, all bundled up in her fox fur jacket.
’’That’s how kids are apparently,’’ Even Daisy had a hard time coming in terms with Angel’s shenanigans in her initial days because Diana and her were just two years apart so she had no real experience with kids before Angel.
Ryle nodded.
