Chapter 70: Lots of questions

Ryle paused briefly before he smiled, ’’You don’t have to go through all that hassle. If you want my number, I can give it to you.’’

Daisy ignored his flirtatious smile.

’’You should have called me over if you needed help.’’

It was only then did Daisy realize that Angel had grown calmer in Ryle’s arms, ’’How did you do that?" she whispered, surprised.

’’Maybe she likes my presence much better. Your daughter surely has an eye out for great things.’’

Daisy stared at the man.

Ryle chuckled, ’’Probably you were trying very hard to calm her down.’’

’’Thank you.’’

Ryle sighed. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

’’When are we leaving?"

To her question, he pulled out his phone and opened a page before passing it to her.

As Daisy read through the news, her face grew solemn. The weather had worsened more than yesterday and there were landslides and other hazards too.

’’Since you were resting, I did not wake you up but it seems like we can’t go back right now.’’

Daisy passed his phone back to her and reached out to her phone that was lying on the couch, her brows taut with worry.

’’Maxim and Diana are both fine. They haven’t taken a flight to LA. Your father wanted them to stay at the manor but they have checked in to a hotel after Diana was discharged from hospital.’’

"How did you know I was worried about them?" Daisy looked at the man questioningly again.

’’You are very expressive.’’

’’I don’t get that a lot,’’ Daisy blinked. She had been told that she should be more expressive throughout her life. She had been told she did not laugh enough, cry enough, and she did not show much emotions which is a put off. It was the first time in her life someone told her vice versa.

Ryle tilted his face to the side. He leaned back on the couch and crossed a leg over the other, letting Angel rest on his chest as he stroked the back of her head gently with his thumb, ’’Even right now, I can say you are surprised. You truly do not get this a lot, do you?"

Daisy looked at him.

Ryle smiled, ’’However, people who tell you that you are not expressive just are not as intellecual as me. They might be relying on your words to understand you,’’ he paused for a moment, his smile growing wider as he spoke, ’’But I don’t need your words to understand you. Your face suffices.’’

It was surprising how he felt that way. And regardless of that, he still found her unpredictable. Like the first time, he had met her on her wedding day when she was in a disguise, he knew that she was not a simple woman and she was up to something but he never predicted that she would hold him on a gunpoint and threaten him to lie on behalf of her.

Then at their annual party, he could see that she was frustrated when he confronted her about her identity but he had no idea she would kiss him.

Her face was so expressive, so much more than she was aware of. Every twitch of her lips, frown between her brows, every tilt her head, of her gaze, revealed to him what she was feeling and thinking.

Yet, despite that, the moment those expressions faded and she turned her back on him, Daisy Chen would revert to a mystery for him.

It was dangerous.

She was dangerous.

And danger has always been fascinating to him.

Ryle took care of Angel while Daisy took a shower. Later, Daisy had her lunch with Angel and the girl was less grumpier when she gradually dozed off.

Daisy leaned back on the headboard of the bed, sitting next to Angel who was sleeping with her arms spread. After placing a soft kiss on the girl’s forehead, Daisy took out her phone and typed something in the search bar.

’Si Yena, Si Family’

But there were no significant outcomes in the search results. All results were from one year ago when Si Yena had eloped with her bodyguard. And there were no follow up news after that. To a stranger, it might seem that the Si Family disowned Si Yena after she eloped with her bodyguard which is why they were not mentioning her in any of their interviews or events but Daisy knew that might not necessarily be the case.

She had seen Ryle killing that bodyguard right in front of her eyes and Si Yena was also sent back to the Si Family right after. It was impossible that she had not made any contact with her family after that incident.

Then, why was she not mentioned anywhere? How could she disappear from the face of the earth?

And if she targeted Diana to exact revenge on Daisy after all this time, then how did she have the means to do so? How did she sneak her people in an tightly guarded event like that of their annual party, especially when the security arrangements were made by Harper Societies?

Daisy had a lot of questions in her mind but she had no ways to get to the bottom of it. She wanted to get a laptop to look into this matter or go to an internet cafe, but with Ryle’s presence, it was impossible.

It almost seemed like the man was not nearby as he was gone for the most of the times even though they were sharing the room. But, she knew him well enough to know that she was right under his radar. One mistake, one slip and she would risk blowing her cover.

Hence, Daisy restrained her impulses.

Later that evening.

’’Mommy... shawbewies..’’ Angel whimpered adorably in Daisy’s arms as Daisy combed her hair, securing it with a small lilac bow.

A small smile made its way on Daisy’s face when she saw that Angel seemed to be back into her form. Maybe because she was tired, the girl had been awfully grumpy throughout last night and today. But after her afternoon nap, she woke up refreshed.
