Chapter 68: News from Las Vegas

’’It was never in my mind to marry him so there was no need for a change.’’

Ryle was surprised. He thought it was going to be fruitless effort. With the woman’s ways, she would not bother answering his questions.

’’And how do you still have a good relation with his brother after that fiasco?"

Daisy’s movements paused. Anyone who knew her equation with Lu Family would wonder why and how she managed to foster a civil relationship with Lu Xian. The man was known for his zero tolerance towards people who hampered the reputation of Lu Family in any way.

And logically, if not for the encounter they had back in the ball organized by the Lu Family in US, then there was no way that Lu Xian and her would even be in talking terms.

’’Isn’t it taking you a lot of time?" Ryle could not help but ask when she sat there without responding to him.

Daisy looked at him and then focused on eating again, ’’My relationship with Lu Xian is none of your business.’’

Ryle’s face darkened slightly. The sound of her words left a bitter taste in his mouth for some reason.

However, when she looked up, his face was back to normal. He shrugged a shoulder.

’’Anything else?"

"Do you know Dexter?"

’’Cough... Cough...’’ Daisy choked on the food as she coughed profusely.

As she gulped down the glass of water, she coughed even harder.

Ryle pushed himself to his feet and approached her as rubbed her back, "Are you okay?"

Daisy inhaled deep breathes to calm herself down. Once the coughing stopped, she peeked in the direction of the bed where Angel was sleeping. The girl seemed to be stirring in her sleep before the movements behind the curtain stopped as she continued sleeping.

’’I think it’s late,’’ Daisy took a small bite of the dessert, had some water before she wiped her face, ’’Give me a moment if you want to use the bathroom. I’ll just freshen up and come back...’’

’’You didn’t answer my question again,’’ Ryle said and the woman halted in her tracks, in front of the bathroom door.

’’I have yet to know what relationship my secretary has with your younger sister. When I caught him and brought him back a year, they seemed rather intimate which made Maxim jealous and he asked me to look for you so that you can be a block between the two of them. But then, he changed his mind and asked me to stop looking for you.’’

Caught him and brought him back?

What was she, a fish?

Daisy pursed her lips.

’’When I was investigating your whereabouts, I had many doubts because it seemed like the core members of my IT team, including a world known hacker like my secretary Dexter were unable to track you down. It was as if someone stronger was backing you up.’’

Ryle walked towards Daisy, ’’And that day when I encountered you in the supermarket, I had gone there to visit Dexter. He lives nearby but I met you instead.’’

’’So, what’s your connection with Dexter?" he question, walking to stand in front of Daisy.

Daisy observed his reaction quietly. As the silence between them stretched, Ryle took a step towards her. The man lowered his head but somehow he was still towering over her.

Daisy was a bit shorter than her sister but she would still not be considered short with a height of 5’6’’ yet even with his body bent, Ryle still seemed so broad, tall and towering with his stature. As she looked into his eyes, she could see the hazel flecks in them.

His eyes had always seemed unremarkable to her, maybe because she had never paid attention to them. But in that moment she could not help but observe how they were a dark shade of brown, so close to black but not black and the hazel flecks in them sparkled under the pale glow of moonlight inside the room.

’’You are so awfully quiet. Are you going to say that again?" Ryle questioned.

’’Say what?" Daisy lowered her gaze.

Ryle lifted her chin with the tip of his index finger so that her gaze was back to his face yet again, ’’That your relationship with Dexter is none of my business as well?" he whispered and the tension in the air thickened.

Daisy retreated a few steps back, creating a distance from Ryle, ’’I am not familiar with your secretary. As for my sister’s relation with her, you should ask her. She has been a top socialite for a long time and in her position, it’s not very hard to get familiar with people from all circles,’’ she paused for a moment before answering his next question, ’’I am next in line for the position of the head after my father so naturally, I have my connections and ways. If I don’t want anyone to find me, then I won’t be found.’’

Ryle glanced at her quietly for a moment before he nodded, ’’Very well, then. Do you need me to thank you for your generosity for clearing my doubts?"

Daisy rolled her eyes as she walked past him and entered the bathroom. She paused when she was about to close the door, ’’Can you keep an eye on Angel for 5 minutes?"

Ryle looked at the little girl who was sleeping behind the layers of curtains before he gave her a reassuring smile, ’’Take your time.’’

Once the door closed, a glint flashed across Ryle’s eyes. One did not know what he was thinking.

’Knock’

’Knock knock’

’Knock’

Hearing the rhythmic sound of the knocks, Ryle opened the door. The middle-aged bodyguards who had stopped him from entering the hotel out of concern greeted his sight.

’’What are you doing here at this hour?"

’’Boss, there is news from Vegas.’’

Ryle’s face darkened, ’’What happened?"
