Chapter 65: Bad weather
"The more beautiful they are, the more hideous their heart is. And I don’t like men. Even if I do, I won’t like the ones who look too perfect. He acts like a womanizer. He even talks and smiles like one. And he is outrageous, unreasonable, sly, dangerous..."
"There there there," Diana cut Daisy off, "Usually, you shrug me off with a few words but don’t you think that your description of him was very elaborate?"
Daisy’s lips parted.
’Knock’
The door to the hospital room was pushed open followed by two consecutive knocks as Maxim and Ryle stepped inside.
"We hope we did not interrupt you ladies," Ryle spoke up as he turned to look at Diana, "I am leaving so I thought I should bid you farewell. See you soon again," the man said along with a saluting motion as he turned to leave.
Diana was about to nod when she suddenly thought of something. She turned to look at Daisy, ’’Aren’t you leaving too?"
Daisy nodded, ’’Since you are feeling better, I’ll book the tickets,’’ She would have stayed with Diana if not for Angel who was with her. And since Diana was already feeling better and she had Maxim to take care of her, Daisy had one less thing to be worried about.
Moreover, she had another concern. Clues about her identity were almost revealed to Ryle multiple times. Luckily, the situation was chaotic and hence it was hard to notice the clues. And even if Ryle noticed them, he still wouldn’t be able to draw a connection between Daisy and Dexter which saved her a lot of trouble. But if Dexter was not present at work when Ryle went back, that might lead to suspicions. Hence, Daisy did not want to risk anything.
’’But will you be taking a flight alone at this hour? With Angel around, I won’t feel very secure about it,’’ Diana sighed softly, ’’How will I be able to sleep with all these worries in my head?"
Daisy’s lips twitched. She was about to tell the woman to not be so dramatic that it literally shows up on her face that she is pretending but before she could say anything, Maxim spoke up.
’’You don’t need to worry about these things,’’ Maxim said as he stroked Diana’s head, ’’Daisy and Angel can take Ryle’s private plane.’’
’’Daisy might be unwilling...’’
Maxim shook his head, ’’She won’t make you worry.’’
Daisy: "_"
Nobody asked her if she was willing to.
Diana sighed again, ’’But won’t that be too troublesome for Ryle?"
’’I don’t think so.’’
Ryle: "_"
And just like that, Ryle and Daisy were not even asked for their opinions on this whole matter.
’’This is the reason I dislike couples. They only like to stay in their pink bubble and dismiss the rest of the world,’’ Ryle mumbled as they walked towards the car.
Daisy handed his overcoat back to him. After a moment of silence, she spoke up, ’’They are just in love.’’
’’Whatever love means,’’ Ryle shrugged.
’’Not every man loves a woman the way Maxim loves Diana so of course, it might seem incomprehensible to the majority of the population,’’ Daisy said sincerely.
Even she was skeptical about them at one point because growing up, she had barely come across people in love. Their parents had an unhappy marriage and then her only encounter with a man was an intimidating experience that she never wanted to go through again. She did not have much insight into feelings. But having witnessed Diana and Maxim together, their growth, their happiness, and their sacrifices for each other in the past year, she seemed to have understood what it was like to be in love.
But Daisy’s sincere words sounded like a jab to Ryle’s ears, ’’Of course, a womanizer like me won’t understand.’’
Daisy paused for a moment and then it dawned on her that he must have overheard her conversation with Diana.
The rest of the ride was drowned in silence.
Halfway through the ride, Daisy said, ’’You don’t have to take us along. We are out of the hospital. Just drop us at the airport and that will do,’’ she did not know what designs cooked in Diana’s crafty mind for her to come up with someone as bizarre as Ryle and her traveling together for almost half a day. The ride in the car was so awkward already.
"Huh?" Ryle pulled the car on the side of the road, ’’Why would you say that?"
Daisy frowned, ’’What?"
"Do you dislike me that much? That did not seem to be the case when you kissed me and you were willingly being kissed by me?"
Daisy instinctively covered Angel’s ears, ’’Stop with that nonsense.’’
Ryle rolled his eyes, ’’She is sleeping. Don’t exaggerate it,’’ he stepped on the accelerator and drove off.
The car sunk in silence until Daisy spoke up again when they reached a slightly crowded street, "Pull up in front of the supermarket.’’
Angel was also stirring away in her arms and she remembered that she had to get the essentials for the child.
Once they reached Ryle’s private plane, Daisy realized that Ryle had already made specific arrangements for her and Angel to rest in the VIP cabin.
’’If there is something, I am right outside.’’
After closing the door, Daisy looked at the bags on the bed. There was a boutique close to the supermarket and she got herself some comfortable clothes from there.
Daisy changed Angel’s clothes and made the girl sit comfortably before changing into a dress.
After getting changed, Daisy turned off the lights, climbed on the bed, and pulled Angel to her lap.
’’Mommy...’’ Angel nuzzled her face close to Daisy’s chest.
Daisy smiled and covered the girl under the blanket as she stroked the back of her head, ’’What happened?" the girl has always been lazy but today she was even lazier. She slept throughout the drive to the hospital and even on their way to the secondary airport for the private plane.
Angel kept lazing around in Daisy’s arms, ’’Mama? Papa?"
Daisy smiled, ’’Your Mama and Papa are both busy with their work. But you will see them soon.’’
As the events of the day flashed through her mind, Daisy fell in a daze. No matter whether it was the doing of Si Yena or her family, they had no involvement with Diana. They came after Diana solely because they could not target her.
Lost in her thoughts, she did not realize as she was gradually dozing off when the sound of approaching footsteps stirred her awake.
When Ryle entered the place, he was greeted by the sight of Daisy lying on the bed on elevated pillows while Angel rested on top of her. The little girl looked at him out of curiosity.
Ryle flashed a charming smile her way before turning his attention to the mother who was looking at him warily, "Before you accuse me of anything, I knocked twice."
Daisy nodded, "What is it?"
"We have to do an emergency landing."
"What?"
Ryle frowned, "The weather in southern California hasn’t been good and the current forecast does not seem positive either," he handed his phone to Daisy, letting her scroll through the news headlines, "Although the plane is built well enough to take storms and bad weather, but it’s good not to take any risk," he looked at Angel before looking back and her again.
Daisy remained silent.
"We can make a landing in Shanghai and stay there till the weather is good," When the woman did not say anything, he added, "It’s your call."
"Alright."
"Good, I have already made the arrangements for landing. The pilot should be ready," Ryle checked the time on his watch.
Daisy’s eyes widened. Didn’t he say it was her call? Yet, he had decided it beforehand before he came to ask her? In the end, whatever he had decided was going to happen and still, he pretended like she had a say in the whole thing.
Ryle observed the woman quietly, her face was still as cold and emotionless but the slight lift of her eyebrows somehow told him that she was displeased.
She had changed the business suit that she had donned for the party and she was wearing a plain knee-length dress. Her long hair was tied in a bun that seemed loose enough as if her hair would come cascading down at any given moment. Somehow, she did not seem as distant and approachable.
"Miss Chen, the reason I had taken this decision in advance is because I have full faith in your reasoning skills. I believe you won’t put your daughter’s and my life in danger just because you are looking for some quick thrill. Or will you?" he raised a brow provocatively.
Daisy: "_"
