Chapter 56: A man who sees her chaos
"Where are we going?" Daisy questioned in a whisper.
’’Stay put. You want to get rid of your Boss for the time being and I need to talk to you so stay put and let me take you away from the crowd,’’ the man said calmly as he led her in particular direction.
The path seemed strangely familiar to Daisy. Wasn’t this...?
And sure enough, when they reached the place, Daisy knew why the path had seemed so familiar to her. It was the same balcony at the end of the hallway where she had encountered Ryle before.
"Hello, where are you lost?"
Daisy snapped back to her senses when she heard Lu Xian’s voice.
’’Why did you bring me here?" she asked the man.
’’You can thank me later for taking you out of your Boss’s sight,’’ the man raised a brow, ’’But I brought you here essentially to clear your misunderstanding.’’
Daisy looked at the man.
’’Why would you think that flowers were poisoned? After I helped you in keeping your facade safe in front of Ryle Harper, tricked him and took you to hospital, I got myself more or less under his radar by arousing suspicions. Can you not see my sincerity?"
’’I also believed that you had no designs against me until you sent those flowers to my workplace. And now in front of so many people, you are even addressing me as Dexter. If you have any plans in my mind, act on them instead of being a coward.’’
’’And there I thought you liked playing with fire,’’ Lu Xian smiled politely, ’’I thought you would find it thrilling and fun to trick a sly man like Harper right in front of his eyes,’’ his voice was low enough but Daisy made sure to do a double check of her surroundings.
’’I have no such hobbies,’’ she frowned, ’’However, if you mention this one more time, I will believe you want to make an enemy out of me.’’
Lu Xian raised his hand in a surrendering motion, ’’I certainly do not want that.’’
Daisy nodded and turned to leave.
"How is your child?"
Lu Xian’s question halted her in her tracks. She turned around to look at the man, ’’Why are you asking about that?"
The man shrugged calmly, ’’I am just curious. Can I not be?’’
Daisy looked at him for a moment before she left the place without answering his question.
Lu Xian’s eyes flashed as he leaned back on the railings and looked at her retreating back.
Daisy was just returning to the party when she caught sight of a familiar black gown in front of one of the VIP rooms.
Diana was in the party just a few moments ago. Daisy couldn’t help but worry that she was not feeling well.
Diana was pregnant and Daisy knew how turbulent the first trimester of pregnancy could be.
Daisy had just taken a step in the direction of the room when a man and woman knocked on the room door. The door opened and both the people stepped inside.
As Daisy watched the door closing, she pinched the spot between her brows. Fair enough, she was even hallucinating now.
Daisy took out her phone to call Maxim to ask him which room him and Angel had taken. However, just as the phone started ringing, the sound of approaching footsteps took her attention.
Daisy raised her head and her heart skipped a beat when she saw Ryle standing in front of her. She fell in a daze. Was he here to confront her about the kiss? She did not know what possessed her when she forced a kiss on him. She was feeling frustrated and helpless about everything and the man’s constant provocations were not helping her in any way. So, she had acted without thinking.
’’You seem pretty familiar with Lu Xian.’’
Ryle’s remark made Daisy pause for a moment, ’’How is that related to you, Mr. Harper?"
’’The first time we met, you threatened me. The second time, you denied knowing me and at the third encounter with me...’’ Ryle leaned closer to her till his lips were next to her.
She could feel the goosebumps on her skin when his warm breath fell on her neck.
’’You kissed me. I feel like I am taken advantage of.’’
Daisy’s lips twitched, ’’Mr. Harper, even though I have no obligations to understand your sentiments but I truly do. However, even if I initiated it, you did not act like a person who was being taken advantage of.’’
As the man pulled back from her, she could see that cocky smile still deeply etched on his face.
’’Now, if you may excuse me.’’
Daisy walked past the man. She had just taken a few steps when strong fingers enveloped around her wrist.
Daisy resisted the urge to pull a move and break the man’s delicate hand, ’’Let go,’’ she kept her tone levelled.
’’I just need an answer, which is pretty irrelevant at this point because the truth is out already. However, I would still like to hear it from your mouth that the woman who had barged in my room and threatened me that night was you.’’
Daisy remained quiet.
’’See, Miss Chen, you don’t have to be afraid about this whole matter. And you don’t have to overthink that I am holding a grudge against you. Even if I was, you have replaced my previous bad experience with a better one so we are even now,’’ he gently turned her around and pulled her close.
Daisy looked at him dead in the eyes, her gaze cold as glaciers.
Somehow, that gaze was strikingly familiar to Ryle.
’’However...’’ the smile on his face widened as he continued, ’’Your pretty little face looked very arrogant when you told told me that you don’t recognize me. So, I would very much like to see your arrogance shatter when you tell me that you were in the wrong and I was right,’’ his brow quirked up as he looked at her with a charming smile that looked nothing less than poison to her eyes.
Before Daisy could say a word, another person walked over.
’’It seems to me that Mr. Harper doesn’t know how to treat ladies,’’ Lu Xian looked at the man, seemingly disappointment as he thrust his hands in his pockets.
Ryle seemed unbothered. He did not even raise his head to look at the man, ’’It’s none of your business how I treat my people. As far as I remember, I haven’t hired you for moral and ethical guidance consultation so don’t try to teach me."
’’Your people? Since when did Daisy become ’your people’?" Lu Xian turned to look at Daisy as if he could not wait for her to show Ryle his place.
’’Daisy? Since when did Miss Chen become ’Daisy’ for you? Despite what kind of person you are in in private, it is not very polite to project it in public by trying to get cozy with your little brother’s ex-fiancee,’’ Ryle shrugged a shoulder.
’’Mr. Harper, when you come to talk about private lives, you should start by looking at yours first. Daisy has a reputation and she also has her future marriage prospects to consider. Which reputed man would dare to pursue her if you act like this,’’ Lu Xian eyed Ryle’s hand that was holding Daisy’s in a tight grip. He continued speaking, ’’If she gets linked with frivolous people with questionable backgrounds then it would be very hard for her in the society as a lady.’’
Daisy frowned when she heard Lu Xian’s words.
’’You did not seem to consider her reputation when you dragged her from the hall in front of a huge crowd. Unless, you want to spark rumours,’’ Ryle clicked his tongue, ’’If Miss Chen can run away from her own wedding without considering the consequences or society then I believe she is a woman of possibilities who will turn the tides in her favour and if she can’t...’’ he turned to look at Daisy as he winked, ’’Then, she will resort to more violent tactics, like threatening people. She doesn’t need a man who dares not to see her chaos and jump right into it. Or so I believe.’’
As Daisy looked at the man, she could not help but fall in a daze.
