Chapter 39: An unwanted appearance at Daisy’s door

A few months later.

"What are you doing? Those furnitures are delicate... Hey, hey... Hold it with with care,’’ Ivy paced in the living room as she watched the men moving the furnitures inside the house.

’’Vi...’’ Little Angel stumbled towards the woman as she tugged at her dress.

Ivy’s frown loosened up within an instant. She smiled brightly and picked the girl up in her arms, ’’Have you stolen strawberries again?"

The girl was dressed in a teddy bear hoodie and there were strawberries stuffed in it’s pockets that she tried to hide with her tiny hands immediately.

Ivy giggled.

After a few minutes, the noise in the condominium finally settled down as the men left after moving around the furnitures.

’Ding’

The sound of the doorbell ringing had Ivy’s eyes lit up immediately, ’’Let’s go. It seems like your mommy is back.’’

The moment the door opened, Daisy squatted on the floor and picked Angel up in her arms. Her gaze scanned across the whole house that seemed fully furnished unlike how it had been two days ago when they moved in there.

For these past few months, Daisy had stayed over with Diana. But soon after she came to Los Angeles, Diana got into an relationship with Maxim and eventually moved out. After lots of ups and downs and multiple chaos caused by their parents, Maxim and Diana found their way back together and got engaged a few weeks ago.

Following that, Daisy decided to move out of Diana’s previous apartment and shift to a place that was closer to the headquarters of Harper Societies. She had been looking for places all this time so when she found a condominium that seemed to suit her needs, she moved there without hesitation so that she could make it suit her convenience.

Initially, she had lied about her identity to everyone when she started living with Diana. But Maxim, that sly fox, managed to get into a relatiosnhip with her sister. And to avoid any potential misunderstandings between the two, she revealed her identity to him. Another part of her actions was also because she somehow trusted him.

Just as it happened with Ivy. After getting to know her, she began to trust the woman at some point unknowingly.

Other than Ryle, everyone was aware of her identity.

When she moved out, Ivy also decided to tag along. Daisy had offered her money initially but the woman turned her down saying that she got a free place and free food where she will be able to work on her projects and also get to look after Angel.

Daisy had been very suspicious about everyone. She initally thought that her sister was too kind, trusting everyone easily but with passing time that she spent with these people, she realized why Diana trusted them.

"You have worked hard,’’ Daisy spoke up.

Ivy smiled, ’’I know right... My bones are screaming at this point. But it was fun. I never had an idea that I could be so good with the aesthetics...’’ Her blabber came to a halt when she noticed something, ’’Daisy, why do you look so pale?"

Daisy paused near a wall when she heard that. She looked at her reflection in the mirror.

In the past month, there have been a new batch of elite bodyguards that were hired in the company. After a brief argument with Ryle over trivial work matters, the man had her spar with the new batch of guards under the guise that ’you can teach them a thing or two as their senior’.

Since the time she started working again as his secretary, they barely got along. The man never let go of an opportunity to get on her last nerve by trying to torment her

The sadist sat on the side as she fought those guards on arena one by one. Since they were freshly trained and hired, they were all energetic youths and by the time Dasiy was done exchanging blows with them, Ryle stood up and walked up to her.

’Did you have to go to that extent to show your skills? Are you trying to scare them away?’ the man asked her in front of the whole bunch of people as if it was not him who commanded her to spar with them in the first place.

’’I am fine,’’ Daisy answered Ivy’s question after some time as she slumped on the couch with Angel being huddled in her arms.

She looked at the little girl who had taken a strawberry out of her pockets and started sucking on it at some point.

Her eyes softened. She leaned closer to the girl and pressed a kiss on the forehead.

Suddenly, the doorbell started ringing.

"I’ll check.’’ 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Ivy went to the door but within one minute, she came running back to Daisy.

Daisy’s brows tugged together, ’’What happened? What are you panicking for?"

’’It’s him.’’

Daisy pushed herself to her feet, a bad premonition rising in her chest, ’’Who?"

’’Who else? Your devil of a boss!" Initially, Ivy had been clueless about Ryle. When she used to work for Maxim, she just knew that Maxim and Ryle were best friends. But after Diana and Maxim moved out, it was mostly her and Daisy hence she got to know about Daisy’s circumstances that she was clueless about prior to that.

With Daisy dragging her sick, bruised or exhausted self back home everyday, it did not take her a long time to give Ryle the tag of the ’devil’.

Daisy froze when she heard Ivy’s words.

She had not shared her new address with the company because she lived with Angel. Even moving to a new place was a decision that she made just so she could spend more time with Angel no matter how long her working hours were for.

Ryle only knew that Angel was Diana’s sister’s child. But she never expected him to be so idle to look into her address and make an appearance at her home.

She worked for him. Ideally, he could have made a call and she would have appeared at his doorstep but he did not do that.

The doorbell continued ringing and Ivy felt a sense of imminent crisis as she panicked for Daisy.
