Chapter 35: A win-win deal

’’So?" Daisy was confused. What had their schedules got to do with her? Why was he informing her about it?

’’Boss wants to have some tea with you before he leaves. He had asked the chef to prepare breakfast as a farewell too.’’

Daisy stepped back, ’’No thanks. I am not hungry.’’

She was just about to close the door when Benjamin’s voice rang again.

’’Boss said even if you are not hungry, you should make some considerations for him and at least join him for the breakfast,’’ Benjamin continued with a polite smile, ’’After all, he is not even holding you liable for the breach of contract when you disappeared overnight without a resignation letter. This is the least you can do to show your sincerity to him.

Daisy’s movements paused, just stopping in time from closing the door. Her mouth opened and then closed, no words coming out of it.

The driver inwardly wiped his sweat, sympathizing with the man whose reaction mirrored just his when his boss narrated these dialogues to him last night. It was as if he had already predicted what ’Dexter’s’ reaction was going to be.

So sly!

Inside the Presidential suite.

The faint fragrance of chamomile tea lingered in the air as the two people sat on the opposite side of the round table, facing each other.

Ryle smoothly poured the tea in Daisy’s cup and stood up to place it in front of her. The staff members served the breakfast before they quietly retreated from the room.

’’You can start eating.’’

Daisy glaced at the sumptuous meal spread in front of her, ’’I am not hungry...’’ As if on cue as a protest to words, her stomach rumbled. She did not remember when was the last time she had a proper meal.

Daisy’s face remained cold but the tips of her ears gradually turned red.

And that did not go unnoticed by Ryle who found it rather amusing to watch.

’’What are you afraid of?" Ryle started taking a bite from every dish, ’’It is not poisoned.’’

’’You would not go through the hassle,’’ Daisy deadpanned before she gave up and picked up the spoon. Ryle would make an attempt to kill her on spot if he had to. Why would he bother going with the hassle if trying to poison her?

’’Good that you know.’’

Halfway through the breakfast, Daisy placed the spoon down and lifted her head to look at him.

’’Did you not like the tea?" Ryle quirked a brow, proceeding to pour her another one when he noticed that her cup had turned empty at some point.

Daisy raised her hand to stop his movements, ’’Wait...’’

Ryle looked at her. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

’’What is it?" Daisy cut to the chase.

"What?"

Daisy picked up the tissue and wiped her mouth lightly, her elegant mannerisms catching Ryle’s attention for a moment before he heard her speak.

’’You invited me here early in the morning. You have prepared all this. I believe this is not a show of a goodwill. What is that you want to talk about?"

’’Smart,’’ Ryle leaned back on the chair, ’’A deal is what I want.’’

’’A deal?"

’’Two years. I want you to work for me for two years, compensating me for the time and manpower that I wasted while looking for you after you disappearance.’’

His words had her pause, ’’You were looking for me?" She had considered the chances. At most she had thought if they ever encountered each other again, then he would be holding a grudge against her but she never thought that he would expend his manpower to track her down.

’’Don’t act like you don’t know how much of a great asset you are,’’ Ryle shrugged a shoulder as he picked up the cup of tea, his finger grazing on the rim of the teacup. He spoke up again, ’’I am a businessman so it’s fair that I don’t want to let go of a profitable deal like you.’’

’’I am not a commodity, Mr. Harper. My apologies—’’

Ryle took a sip of the tea as he eyed the man who had already stood up, ’’You will be paid thrice the amount you used to work for back then. And other than that, you will have an easy access to the organization’s protection and resources.’’

Those last words got Daisy’s attention.

And Ryle could see that in the way she looked at him. The mouse finally took the extra cheese bait.

Ryle hid his smile behind his teacup as he spoke, ’’You seem to have entanglements with the young miss of the Si Family. Even though the Si Family is not that influential, but it is still one of the top four aristocratic families of Beijing. They have their forces and their strengths regardless of anything.’’

Daisy remained quiet.

Ryle smirked. Finally realizing things, aren’t you?

’’And then there is a person like you. No forces to back you up. No power. No background.’’

’No forces!’

’No power!’

’No background!’

Daisy listened to the man patiently without interrupting him and the serious look on her face would never let a single soul have doubts that she was in fact the heiress of the Chen Family.

’’Even if you are a capable individual, how far is tat going to take you if you are up against people all by yourself?" With the final closing statement, Ryle placed the teacup down, ’’I need a capable right-hand man and you need a strong backing.’’

Daisy lowered her head.

Ryle pushed himself to his feet and walked around the table before he approached Daisy, placing a palm on his shoulder as he tapped him twice, ’’And this deal fulfills both our needs, Dexter.’’

Daisy sank into contemplation, countless thoughts running in her head but she was unable to grasp them all.
