Chapter 31: I trusted you

Daisy tried to convince her, ’’Before I help you, you need to help me. Where is the child? I flipped Beijing upside down but I could not find her. Diana is gone from the Chen Mansion...’’

She had heard people talking that Diana left with the child but she did not know how much of truth was there in it.

’’Oh, she left?" Si Yena asked uninterestedly as she crossed her arms in front of her chest and sat on the bed.

The wig stuck near Daisy’s shoulder fell, letting her dark hair cascade past her waist. She frowned, ’’What do you mean by she left?" Unbeknownst to Daisy, her voice shook towards the end.

’’There is not much to mean,’’ Si Yena shrugged and somehow she did not resemble the woman that Daisy was familiar with.

’’What’s going on?" Daisy grabbed the woman’s shoulders.

Si Yena slapped her hands away, retreating a few steps back, ’’Keep your hands off me and get out of my sight. If you are that capable, go find your child yourself.’’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

’’Where are they?" Daisy closed her eyes.

’’Just get lost—’’ Si Yena’s exhaled a shuddering breath when a cold metal brushed against her forehead.

’’Where are they?" Daisy repeated, pressing the pistol on her best friend’s forehead with trembling fingers.

She should have known.

She should have trusted her instincts when she checked the recordings of Si Yena’s mansion and watched how the woman handed her child to strangers.

Trusting the wrong person was like willingly poisoning yourself. One would not know how their death dawned on them.

Daisy’s grip on the pistol tightened, her wrist firm this time. She looked at the woman in determination as the silence in the room stretched.

’’I left her at this orphanage...’’ Si Yena’s face turned pale as shiver crept down her spine, ’’I asked them to drop your child at the Chen Mansion after you leave. They informed me that they last saw your child in Diana’s arms. Since you are saying that Diana has left the Chen Mansion already, there is nothing for you to worry about. Stop exaggerating it already. They should both be fine. Stop threatening me...’’

’’Diana is a child herself,’’ Daisy dropped to her knees as she buried her face in her palms, ’’What have you done, Yena? Diana can’t even fend for herself for one day outside the Chen Mansion. How can I stop worrying knowing that they both can be in danger? What if something happens to them? What if...’’ she stopped speaking, feeling a tightness in her chest.

’’Why?" Daisy glanced at her best friend, who was a stranger at this point, ’’Why would you do it? I trusted you.’’

’’I needed you...’’ Si Yena warily eyed the gun in Daisy’s hand. Once Daisy put it in the waistband of her pants, she started speaking, ’’I needed you since I was young because my parents asked me to befriend the heiress of the Chen Family.

I did what was expected of me. But I never really liked staying in your shadow. Nobody does.

People asking me to introduce them to you disgusted me. My people trying to cozy up to you annoyed me every single time.

Back in college too, you were in the limelight and I was out there, somewhere in the background. Even my ex-boyfriend kept asking me about you. Do you know how hard it gets when you are not the main character of your life?"

Daisy’s palms turned cold, ’’So... for all these stupid things, you sacrificed my child and cornered my sister?

I have no recollection of your ex-boyfriend, nor do I remember your friends who ever approached me. You are the one I ever considered a friend, you were the person I trusted.

When did I ever wrong you?"

’’The stupid things you are speaking of is my life!" Si Yena snapped, ’’I have nothing to do with your sister and I did not sacrifice your child. I needed money to elope with my bodyguard and I could not take my family’s money so I traded your child with the Chens.

Growing up with you, I know your family well enough to know which nerve I needed to press in order to squeeze a reaction. I threatened your mother that if she does not give me money, I will expose this to the media. Imagine the scandal. The prestigious eldest daughter of the Chen Family had a child without marriage. As expected, your mother gave me the money without any qualms.’’

Daisy’s lips parted.

’’But you have nothing to worry about. I thought they would do worse to the child. But look at what we got. That naïve little doll decided to take responsibility for her niece. Now, don’t be a bitch here alright?"

’’I treated you well,’’ Daisy tilted her head to look at the woman.

Si Yena chuckled as she shook her head, ’’By well, you mean putting a cold face all the time and snatching the attention that I deserve just with that family background and vixen face of yours? My parents compare me with you, they want me to be like you, my friends wanted to be your friends, and my boyfriends were always interested in you more than they were in me me.

Si Yena paused, ’’You say you treated me well but your friendship is a curse, Daisy Chen.’’

Daisy lowered her head as she glanced at the floor. After a few seconds, she nodded.

She pushed herself to her feet after grabbing the wig from the floor.

Si Yena flinched when she thought about the gun that Daisy possessed.

But Daisy did not spare her another glance as she walked towards the door.

Her hand rested on the doorknob.

She turned around to look at Si Yena, ’’Don’t let our paths cross again. You won’t want to see what kind of person I become when I don’t treat people well.’’

Si Yena was stunned.
