Chapter 294: I want to help you

So, just like that, she did not let him lie down to cuddle her and he did not let her get off his lap and the both of them ended up sitting like that.

Ryle leaned back on the headboard while Daisy sat on his lap, her brows constantly tugging together while she did not say a word.

Ryle sighed and quietly stroked her back.

’’Tell me what you want to do. I will help you,’’ After a long time, Daisy finally turned to look at him, "I don’t think you are here to spend some quality time with Mr. Kingsley and his words and actions today did not seem to imply that he got you here because he missed his son. You both want something from each other.’’

As Ryle looked at her quietly, Daisy continued, ’’What he wants from you is not hard to predict. I might not know the details of what is going on in his mind but I can guess it roughly. Your grandfather is gone, and you are the only child Mr. Kingsley has if we consider the fact that he is clueless about the possibility of your sister being alive...’’

’’She is alive,’’ he said softly.

As the meaning behind those words dawned on Daisy, she went silent, ’’When did you confirm?"

’’The night before I came here,’’ Ryle said, ’’Locke sent me the DNA reports. She is my sister.’’

Daisy thought back to that night when he abruptly told her that he had to go to LA. He had composed himself to a huge extent, to the point she could not catch anything amiss at alL

Daisy looked at Ryle, ’’Does she know?"

’’No.’’

’’The way it is here, you are being imprisoned in this mansion,’’ Daisy whispered softly, "There are hidden guards at every step and you are here all by yourself. Mr. Kingsley intends to keep you here and train you into his heir.’’

She lowered her gaze, ’’As for what you want from him, I don’t know...’’ she slowly looked up to meet his gaze, ’’When it seems like you don’t want to talk about something, I don’t urge you. But this time, I want you to tell me what your objective is, Ryle... so that I can help you.’’

Ryle fell silent and Daisy did not urge him. She waited for him to register her words, she waited so that he could understand...

’’Did I tell you I need help?"

Daisy’s froze in his arms, her head tilted as she looked at him.

Ryle softened his tone, ’’I don’t want you to be involved in this...’’

"I would not be, if you don’t want me to be. But remember that, in the future, you are supposed to stay away from my affairs,’’ Daisy pushed his hand away with a force so strong that he was caught off guard.

She pushed herself to her feet and stepped away from him, ’’I don’t need you to protect me from the world while you face everything by yourself. At most, we can just perish together facing things together.’’

After that, she calmly dropped Ryle’s suit jacket to the floor and started dressing again, without another word.

Ryle’s vision had adjusted to the darkness and he no longer knew whether he was confused, frustrated or turned on. He waited for her to dress up before he pushed himself to his feet to approach her.

But before he could reach out to hold onto her, she moved almost in a blur and jumped out of the window.

Ryle stood there, stupefied for a few moments before he rushed towards the window in concern but when he looked down, he only found some guards in the distance. Daisy was no longer in sight.

He had angered her through and through and he knew when they crossed paths in the future, he would be getting the cold shoulder from her. But Ryle no longer knew what to do about this entire game that he had orchestrated.

The game that was supposed to be played without a single emotion was wrecked up entirely with all of them and at this point, he did not know whether to advance or retreat.

...

Daisy reached back to the servant quarters on unsteady steps. As the place was dark, she did not immediately step inside but stood there and glanced at Ryle’s window. The place was distant but she could see his shadow moving under the moonlight when he stepped closer to the window to check if she was there. He stayed there for a few moments before walking back inside and then the lights in the room were turned on.

Daisy averted her gaze and looked at the guards who were immediately alert. She had observed their patterns for the night before finally making her move to meet Ryle amidst their rounds.

She had been angry. Upset. Lost and confused. And when she met him, she felt like collapsing in his arms. She had expected him to hold her, to understand where she was coming from but the man remained stubborn, still wanting to send her away.

When Daisy realized that Ryle had lied to her, she was partly angry but more than that, she was worried. Worried that he was in some sort of danger. When his location tracked to Kingsley mansion, she knew of two possibilities. First, he was forcefully taken there, which was difficult given his capability but not impossible considering the background of the Kingsley family.

But she discarded that assumption quickly. Had he been forced into anything, he would not have made an extra effort to lie to her. So, she deduced that it was his intention all along. He had some purpose for coming here, and he hid it from her because he knew it was dangerous. He was intending to hide it from her till the danger was gone.

In that moment, she had let her impulse take over when she packed with the intention to rush here but then she realized that it can lead to drawbacks. First, if any of the men who were guarding Chen Mansion was connected with Ryle’s father by any chance, then she would alert him.
