Chapter 29: Desperation
’’You will regret it,’’ Daisy tightened her grip on his collar for a moment before she pushed him away from her.
For a moment, she had forgotten who she was dealing with.
’’Actually, there is a way for you to know get the insider information from me,’’ Ryle watched as the guy’s eyes sparkled, ’’Join the company again,’’ and then the light in those emerald eyes dimmed.
’’No,’’ Daisy’s answer was firm.
She had to find her sister and child. As for the job, she did not take the same job twice. She had her rules and he was just another passerby who was not worth breaking her rules for.
Her confident ’no’ was another blow to Ryle. He clutched his chest, ’’You... Fine...’’ He inhaled a deep breath and told her, ’’The Si Family of Beijing had hired the Harper Society’s services for their security. And now their daughter has eloped with one of my trusted bodyguards. Who knew you would be cuckolded by that heiress material? You are being bullied just like that. I will help you get revenge...’’
The last words did not register in her mind because Daisy was stunned by his first words. Si Yena... eloped with a bodyguard... she had heard about it and knew that it was true. But a bodyguard from his company?
’’No,’’ she looked at him when the ’revenge’ term clicked in her mind, ’’Stay away from her. You can deal with your bodyguard as you wish but don’t lay a finger on her,’’ Even if she wanted to save her friend’s lover, she knew it was not that simple with the involvement of this ruthless man.
That bodyguard broke the basic code of work ethics and he was going to suffer for it because Ryle was not the kind of man who would be moved by vows of love and feelings.
Ryle quirked a brow, ’’You are so protective about her. I am telling you... she is just leading you on.’’
’’Cut the crap,’’ Daisy grabbed her bag and started packing her laptop and other stuff.
’’Where are you going?" Ryle straightened up.
Daisy slung the bag over her shoulder as she glanced at him, her casual expression back on place, ’’It was nice catching up with you. Remember my words, don’t touch Si Yena."
Ryle grabbed the bag on instinct, dragging Daisy back.
Her eyes widened, ’’You...’’ When she was working for him, this man was not this unrestrained. Why was he pestering her now? Just because she left the job without telling him? Men and their sky-high egos.
Every second she spent around any man, she would discover another minus point about them.
’’Take the job, Dexter.’’
Daisy was speechless.
After some time, she tried free herself from his grasp but his fingers did not budge, ’’Are you delusional? Let go.’’
’’You are taking the job.’’
’’No.’’
’’Then we are staying here like this.’’
’’Are you crazy? I know I was good at my job but you don’t have to be so desperate.’’
’’Who is being desperate?" Ryle scoffed and pushed the guy far away from him.
Daisy grabbed the arm of the couch to stabilize herself as she sighed. She waved her hand from above her shoulder without looking back at him and walked towards the door before opening it.
A furiously blushing woman stumbled inside.
Upon closer inspection, Daisy saw that it was the receptionist from earlier. Why was her face red? Was she sick?
The receptionist was speechless. The Prince and Duke were not actually fighting for her. In fact, they had a thing together?
Heavens, why are all high-quality men into each other?
Ryle’s face resembled the bottom of a pan when he saw the fujoshi spirit look on the receptionist’s face. He could not believe that his.... his sexual orientation was being questioned.
"Goodbye, Princess. Thanks for your care,’’ Daisy sighed and left the motel.
It has been weeks since her wedding day.
Si Yena was her only lead now to find her daughter and to know about her sister’s abrupt disappearance.
Why did Si Yena leave the child with those strangers? Why did she order them to take her to Chen Mansion? Is it because she knew her life would be under threat while eloping? So, she wanted to ensure the child’s safety? Why was there a card of ’Light Orphanage’ in Diana’s room?
Daisy did not know.
As for Ryle, she needed to protect Si Yena from that guy. Since his bodyguard betrayed him, it was their matter.
No matter how she thought about it, she could not decipher what went wrong with her seemingly perfect plans.
If not for the 16% shares of their company that her grandfather left under his eldest granddaughter’s name, Daisy believed that her parents would not have hesitated twice before disowning her.
But she had no interest in their things.
She gave birth to her child and her future plans were wrecked by the new addition. She knew that she needed a new plan and she had worked for it. She went as far as getting herself a ew identity so she could go far away with her child.
Daisy wanted to take Diana with her but the Chen Family was like quicksand and Diana had gotten deeper inside it. Regardless of the times she had tried to separate her little sister from them, sometimes they would trap her emotionally, sometimes she would fear the unknown, sometimes Diana would find it impractical to even think of a life without their parents, and even worse.
At the end of the day, Daisy knew that if Diana did not decide on her own then no matter how much she tried to convince her into leaving that hellhole, her little sister would never even think of something like moving out from Chen Mansion, let alone going far away from them. That was why it shocked her more that Diana had run away.
