Chapter 282: Code red

Daisy frowned. That was a rather untimely visit from the man. ’’Let him in,’’ she said.

The butler stepped aside and Lu Xian strode inside the room. Lu Xian stood before her, he gave a small, polite nod, his eyes lingering on Daisy with a knowing look.

"We need to talk,’’ he said, his voice smooth.

One hour later.

The door to Daisy’s bedroom swung open, and Lu Xian stepped out of the room first. He stopped, turned around and extended his hand inside. Daisy ignored his hand and hooked her hand around his arm instead.

But as she came into view, Ivy’s jaw dropped.

’’Mommy?" Angel blinked, eyes widening.

Ivy nodded to the little girl, ’’Very much mommy.’’

They had lied to Ryle about Daisy being at work to keep his guards down while Daisy tracked his current whereabouts. But she had long returned and gotten comfortable when she suddenly received a call from Diana that changed her mood from the beautiful spring to deadly winters within an instant.

Gone was the casual attire Daisy had donned after coming from work. Now she wore a crimson red, bodycon dress that barely reached her lower thighs even. It hugged all her curves, accentuated her figure. Her hair was done in soft waves, and a touch of makeup highlighted her eyes, giving her a striking appearance. A striking white designer bag in her hand, and pearl accessories added a soft touch to her appearance. She looked as though she were heading out on... a date?

Lu Xian and Daisy walked out, casually indulging in small talks, whispering things to each other that the others were not privy to.

When Daisy reached Angel, she picked the little girl up in her arms, grabbed the little girl’s hand and planted a kiss on her palm.

As if there was a tacit understanding between the mother and daughter, Angel let go of Daisy and jumped to Ivy soon after, smiling and waving at her instead.

Daisy’s gaze softened and a hint of determination brewed in her eyes as she turned to Ivy, ’’I have some work related matters to attend to so I won’t be back early.’’

Ivy nodded, ’’You don’t have to worry about the things here. I will take care of everything.’’

The words exchanged between them were rather discreet but both of them knew what the other person was implying.

Hence, just like that, Lu Xian and Daisy stepped out of the mansion, hand in hand, till they reached his car.

There were discreet clicks of cameras Ryle’s hidden bodyguards snapped photos from the shadows. The images of Daisy, dressed to the nines and stepping out with Lu Xian, were immediately sent to Ryle’s phone with a simple, but urgent message attached: Boss—SOS!

While one man did that, the others were also onto the same task. This message was too important. Afraid that their brother might miss any relevant detail that should be relayed to their boss, they also joined in on it.

...

Inside a sedan.

Ryle’s phone buzzed on the empty spot next to him. He picked up his phone and as he went through the photos, his eyes narrowed.

The first message read: Boss-SOS!

One of the messages read: Boss, she’s going on a date... with HIM. Shall I shoot him or shoot him?

Another followed with: "Code red. We need backup. Miss Chen seems to be engrossed in whatever he is saying. Boss, I am afraid he would badmouth you in front of her!

Ryle stared at the screen, caught between irritation and something deeper, a gut-punch of jealousy he wasn’t ready to confront.

As he stared at the picture of Daisy and Lu Xian, hand in hand. Her in that tight little red dress that made her look more like the vixen that she was, he moved in his seat, his body growing hot. Ryle loosened his tie and adjusted his position.

He couldn’t help but mutter under his breath, "You’ve got to be kidding me..."

"How long before we reach there?"

’’Boss, we will be there in 2 hours...’’

Benjamin’s words trailed off as his phone started ringing. The call was from an unknown number. He waited for a brief moment before answering the call and a cold voice reverberated inside the car.

"Your grandfather has passed away. Be here in an hour, son.’’

The call was disconnected immediately.

Benjamin’s lips pursed in a thin line, ’’Boss, I can drive faster and take a few shortcuts.’’

’’Did you say it would take you 2 hours?" As Benjamin looked at him in utter confusion, Ryle continued, ’’Make it 4.’’

...

Outside the Chen Mansion.

Daisy and Lu Xian slipped into his sleek black car, the doors closing with a solid thud. The engine purred to life, and as they pulled away from the mansion, a quiet settled between them.

The city lights blurred past in a rush of neon and shadow, but neither of them spoke for the first few minutes. Finally, Daisy broke the silence, her voice calm.

"Thank you for today," she said, her eyes fixed ahead, though the weight of her words was unmistakable. "Had it not been for your timely arrival, I would have miscalculated a few things. I forgot he has his people here around in the mansion,’’ she got too impulsive and did not consider many things like if she intended to find Ryle there then what all would she need to do? Lu Xian’s arrival made her slow down and reconsider her thoughts.

Lu Xian’s hands remained steady on the wheel as he gave a slight shake of his head. "We share the same goal at this point," he replied, his tone almost casual, though there was an undercurrent of something far more intense beneath his words, ’’We have the same destination, you know. Things have been rather complicated lately and when I decided where I had to go from there, I knew I should meet you and apologize and thank you regarding a few things.’’
