Chapter 269: I will back you up
And it was possibly because Ryle had started his company from scratch. He had every stone in that place under his control but for Daisy, the situation was different.
Chen Corporation was not her creation but a responsibility that she had inherited from her father. While the company looked stable on surface, there were still many people who doubted her abilities, shunned her father’s decision of making her the CEO, some were like Chen Lina, plotting various things and whatnot.
Daisy certainly did not have everything under control in that place and she was not the least bit bothered about it. She would deal with things as they came.
But that, specifically, did not mean that she could just take a sick leave like the man’s ’call-your-secretary-and-say-your-forehead-is-burning’ look suggested.
"You barely slept last night. We came back around what... almost past 4,’’ Ryle still pushed as they walked to the dining table.
He pulled the chair for her and took a seat to her right.
’’Hmm? Past 4? Why were you up so late?"
’’Cough...’’ Daisy wiped the orange juice from the corner of her mouth following the bombardment of Ivy’s questions.
Ivy was silent for a moment before her mouth formed an ’o’, her eyebrows wiggling suggestively at Daisy.
Daisy shook her head helplessly. She had put on an adequate amount of makeup and barely managed to Ryle’s exclusive art from her body but apparently, that was not helpful.
’’There is something I want to talk to you about,’’ Ivy said suddenly, putting the spoon down from her hand.
Hearing the change in her tone, Daisy looked at her, ’’What is it about?"
’’I want to move out,’’ Ivy said.
Silence ensued on the dining table.
Ryle nodded thoughtfully, ’’If you feel like it, you can do it..’’
Daisy paused, ’’No,’’ she calmly went back to eating again.
Ryle and Ivy looked at Daisy speechlessly.
’’Daisy, I have thought about it. I am an employee in Elites now and the company provides decent places for us so...’’
’’I know the company does and I know how the company functions,’’ Daisy placed her spoon down and glanced at Ivy, ’’The last time I let you go on your own, you did not come back to me in the most ideal conditions.’’
"She is an adult, you know...’’ Ryle trailed off when Daisy shot him a glare. Whether Ivy lived here or anywhere else was not worth provoking Daisy when she was sleep-deprived, or even when she was not. So, he remained silent.
’’Beijing is new for you. Get familiar with the place, with the company, explore, maybe have some worthy friends and I will let you move out. And I will let you be on your own outside without meddling in your affairs. But for now, it is non-negotiable.’’
Ivy’s mouth opened and closed, ’’I don’t know if I feel restricted or protected now,’’ she rubbed her chest, ’’Your motherly instincts are soaring.’’
Daisy rolled her eyes, unable to continue looking at the theatrics.
’’You should feel flattered instead,’’ Ryle pointed.
’’I will be visiting Elites today. Finish your breakfast and come with me. I will drop you there,’’ After Daisy spoke, she did not give Ivy a chance to refuse as she got up and walked towards the room.
Ryle pushed himself to his feet and followed after her, not before gulping down the remaining contents in Daisy’s juice glass.
Speak of PDA early in the morning.
In an angle nobody could see, Ivy wiped a drop of tear from the corner of her eyes, her fingers tugging down the sleeve of her shirt to cover her wrist.
...
"I have something to discuss,’’ Daisy stopped talking and turned around once they entered the bedroom.
’’Mm. I am listening,’’ Ryle grabbed her wrist and pulled her close to him.
Daisy glanced at Angel who was sleeping peacefully on the bed.
’’Come hare,’’ Ryle led her to the couch, took a seat and pulled her to his lap, ’’Tell me what it is about.’’
’’When are you getting a DNA test done?" Daisy asked without beating around the bush.
Ryle stiffened slightly.
Daisy sighed. She had known why he was hesitating, what he feared and where all this might lead to which is why she had never brought it up before.
’’You cannot run away again. If she is indeed your sister, then she is all alone by herself there. And if she is not the one, then you need to let her go to her own place. She must have a life of her own.’’
Ryle sank in silence. His eyes fluttered a close, a hint of weariness crossing his features, ’’I have spent years trying to find her. And I have never gotten close to finding her.’’
’’I am afraid, Daze,’’ he opened his eyes and in them, she saw a hint of vulnerability that made her heart squeeze a bit.
’’I am afraid if she is not the one, then I would start considering the possibility if I can ever really find her.’’
He lowered his head and in a moment, his eyes were hidden from her, all those emotions contained in them disguised as if they had never been there in the first place.
Daisy did not like it a single bit. She hated that he had to do this. And the realization that he never showed any vulnerability, remained impassive and unmoved, playful and so unserious in the face of everything was not because he did not feel anything.
It was precisely because he felt too much that he could not let it slip. He could not let it show. Or maybe he was never allowed to show.
Ryle felt her weight disappearing from his lap and at a soft tap on his knees, he looked forward only to find her kneeling in front of him, her palms on his knees and her eyes meeting his.
"If you fail this time, you can try again. We will try to find her forever, if anything. You want to do it, I will back you up,’’ Daisy said without a second thought.
