Chapter 265: What have you done?
And as Daisy reached the kitchen, the view momentarily floored her in her place.
The kitchen was in a mess with things flying around. The chefs all stood with their backs hunched, bodies trembling. And the center of the stage was occupied by Ryle and Angel.
Ryle held a cupcake and placed it on a plate. An unhealthy amount of strawberry surrounded it but what looked unhealthy to her eyes seemed like her daughter’s lifelong dream as she giggled and kicked her feet, tightly grasping the folded sleeve of Ryle’s shirt.
Daisy’s lips parted a bit when she noticed half a strawberry lying in Angel’s blonde hair like a hair clip. Both her cheeks were covered in flour.
’’See... I told you... She made the dessert,’’ Ivy came to stand beside Daisy, remarking proudly.
’’By... holding his hand?" Daisy turned to look at Ivy.
Ivy nodded, ’’That counts too. She has been doing that since the process started. She must have badly wanted to make dessert for you.’’
Daisy was speechless. She wanted to tell Ivy that Angel’s sweet cooperation in preparing dessert had less to do with her and more with the strawberries instead. But Ivy’s face told her that she would rather live in her delusions.
Once the plating was done, and Ryle fed Angel a slice of strawberry, she munched on it happily, her eyes turning into crescent moons.
’’Mommy...’’
The girl finally looked away from the kitchen and spotted her standing at a little distance.
The moment Ryle spotted her, he made his way towards her.
Daisy tilted her head to meet his gaze, ’’It seems like you had a fun...day..’’
One moment, she was still talking and the next moment, she was buried in his warmth as he pulled her into his arms.
And he remained in that position. Unmoving.
’’Ryle?"
Ryle loosened his grip on the back of her head when she called out to him. As she pulled back, he tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear, ’’How was your day?"
Daisy was still somewhat dazed by the tight hug. She had a feeling that had he not been holding Angel in his arms, he would have held her even tighter.
’’It... was alright.’’
’’Then, go wash up. Dinner is ready,’’ he stroked her hair.
"_" Ivy turned her head in the opposite direction. She had a feeling that a single person like her did not have the right to live at all. What are these sudden bouts of dogfood thrown everywhere?
Ryle’s actions had all the servants gaping at them in the passing. The butler nearly had two hearts popping out of his sockets. After all, when had they ever seen their missy in such a passive position? Even when she was young, she did not let anyone pat her head, alright?
Daisy raised an eyebrow as she looked at his patient palm that stroked her head, ’’What... are you doing?"
Ryle’s hand stiffened under her passive glare. He reached out to pinch her cheeks but retracted his hand again when she narrowed her eyes.
But the determination in his heart had only grown stronger. No matter who Angel’s father was, he would keep that bastard far away from Daisy and Angel.
If it was really Lu Xian, he was more keen on doing so. With Daisy, the bastard who gave her such a lingering nightmare did not even stand a glance from her.
As for Angel... He would allow that so-called father a look from her if he really was worthy.... That is, after Angel turned 18 and if... only if she wanted to meet her biological father.
The thought of it made Ryle’s face slightly unpleasant, ’No. Whether she is 18 or 28, she won’t meet that scoundrel.’
It was better to use these few decades to be all that this mother-daughter duo would ever need.
...
"Is she asleep?"
Daisy stopped patting Angel’s back and inched away from her slowly. She sat up on the bed, and covered the girl in the blanket before looking up at Ryle.
The man leaned against the doorframe, his arms folded in front of his chest.
’’It seems like she had a fun day. She kicked her legs even in sleep,’’ Daisy spoke to him in a hushed voice as she motioned in the opposite direction.
Ryle closed the door, not locking it entirely before he followed her.
The servants had all retreated to the servant quarters at this hour. And only the butler was doing a final survey. Spotting them, he halted in his tracks and bowed, his eyes full of smiles as he retreated.
’’You can trust me with closed eyes. Do you think I will spoil the little princess too much in your absence?"
’’I don’t think so,’’ Daisy glanced at him from over her shoulder. Looking at his self-satisfied smile, she continued, ’’I am certain you will spoil her rotten.’’
Ryle sighed but he did not deny that. He could not say anything to justify himself on that matter. After all it was a matter of fact that all Angel had to do was look up at him with her big blinking eyes and he would do whatever she wanted.
’’Where are we going?"
’’Oh... I need some water,’’ Daisy pointed her chin in the direction of the kitchen, ’’You can go back to the room first. I will join...’’ her words trailed off when Ryle grabbed her wrist.
His fingers trailed down her wrist as he intertwined them with her fingers, enveloping her hand in his big one.
’’Your hand is cold,’’ Ryle pulled it up, putting it inside the pocket of his black hoodie.
Daisy’s lips parted and she halted in her tracks. Her eyes wandered off to her hand that was tucked inside his hoodie pockets and then she glanced at the man who was gazing at her rather cluelessly, ’’You are acting weird today.’’
’’W-What?" Ryle averted his gaze.
’’What have you done, Ryle?" Daisy lifted her hand, her index finger and middle finger settled under his chin as she tilted his face towards her.
