Chapter 262: Ryle’s mother
’’Good girl,’’ the woman’s words were cut off when Ryle picked the girl up in his arms and kissed her forehead. Her little feet tried to climb his abdomen but she pouted when his grip remained firm, ’’I am your daddy. You have to remember that well, alright?" Ryle tapped the tip of her nose and kissed her forehead again.
In the next moment, he stilled as the little girl puckered her small mouth and pressed a wet kiss on his cheek.
Angel was not the one to do that usually. Just as the way she did not call him daddy anymore after the first time no matter how he tried to coax her, she did not show affection to people easily. It would only be very selective people like her mommy, her mama and papa who got this special treatment more occasionally.
Maxim, that lucky bastard, got acknowledged by Angel as her ’papa’. Ryle, for once, was fucking jealous of his best friend. Where was he all this time? Why did his right come so late?
His thoughts came to crashing halt when the little girl proceeded to cover his face with small wet kisses, the place echoing with her soft giggles. She kissed him almost as if she was aware that there were things lurking in the back of his head, things that threatened to get the worst of him.
She kissed him till the mask on his face cracked and a hint of smile emerged on his face, till a suspicious sheen glazed over his eyes.
And his heart dropped at her little feet in a puddle. He did not fucking care who her father was. He did not have any flying fucks to give if that bastard was none other than his nemesis, Lu Xian. He would protect her from the entire world if there was a need.
And if some worthless bastard showed up to steal her away, he would eradicate them. Or being his most gracious self, he would let them watch her from afar, just for the sake of Angel.
She would always be his little princess and Ryle knew it. He knew it right at that moment when all the turmoil in his heart came to a temporary halt when he held the little ball of fluff close to his heart.
...
Chen Corporations.
"Any updates from it yet?" Daisy tilted her head to look at Secretary Han.
Secretary Han who had just entered the COO’s room felt his lips twitching, ’’President, I got in touch with Mr. Astor just now. The call went through.’’
’’What did he say?"
’’He said he was in the hospital for a regular checkup. He is on his way here,’’ Secretary Han took a brief pause before asking, ’’President, is something the matter?"
’’Hmm?"
’’You have been waiting for him in his office for the past two hours. There are already rumors in the office that the COO has offended you and you will fire him today.’’
Daisy arched her brow and shifted her attention back to the file in her hand, ’’Are they that idle?"
Secretary Han paused, ’’Ah, people talk...’’
’’Do you think I am holding a tea party here, Mr. Han, where I precisely live with them running their mouths off?"
She did not look up but her tone gave him goosebumps.
There was a hard edge to Daisy’s behavior today. It was not like Secretary Han was unused to it. He had witnessed this side of her since the very first day she took over this position. As a young miss, she had always seemed like an aloof person and she would nod politely to acknowledge his presence whenever he went to talk business with her father.
But he had not witnessed how authoritative and ruthless she could be until she actually took over her father’s position and controlled the disorder in the company all by herself overnight.
Comparatively, she was even colder back then. But in the past few days, she had been lying low and that made Secretary Han forget that his current boss was made of ice. She had been softer than usual and even her features had appeared less aloof.
But now, it seemed like she was back in her element. Let alone the employees, even he was starting to wonder how that man, their COO, Caleb Astor had offended their lady boss.
She had a meeting when she came to office today and ever since that meeting ended, Daisy had not stepped a foot out of the COO’s office. She was currently sitting on the couch with her legs crossed while a pile of files sat next to her. She flipped through them, working on them one by one, rather patiently.
But there was something very unnerving about the patience she carried in that moment.
She spoke up again, snapping Secretary Han out of his daze, ’’Since they have been too idle lately, get them to work on some of the planned projects that have been discussed in the meeting today. I want their plans in 48 hours. If they can manage it faster, then even better.’’
Secretary Han’s jaw dropped, ’’Yes, I will... get onto it.’’
Just as he was stepping back, the door to the office room opened and a playful voice came, ’’It seems that they got on your nerves somehow.’’
Caleb strode inside the office, holding a file in his hand. He strode straight to his office desk and placed the file in the top drawer before he turned to look at Daisy. His brows rose when he saw the files that were piled up by her side.
Secretary Han sighed in relief, seeing that Daisy’s target for the day had finally made an appearance. That meant the others would be let off the hook. At least temporarily. He quickly excused himself and marched out to announce Daisy’s orders to everyone.
’’Is your office being renovated or what?" Caleb shook his head helplessly, ’’Even then, you should not make my office your spare unit for now, you know. It damages my cool and untouchable persona if the CEO just starts using my place as her spare office. Ah, these people will think of me as a pushover, you know...’’
’’How are you connected to Ryle’s mother?"
