Chapter 240: Rather pathetic

But making him fall for her was quite a task. However, I have to admit that my sister is good at what she does. She had him wrapped around her little finger.

At that time, your mother was pregnant with you and she was already withering away in distress..’’

Lu Xian closed his eyes. In the recent rumors about the Lu family, there were multiple claims. Some said his eldest brother who was always sick and in the wheelchair was not the biological son of the current Madam Lu.

Some said, even he was unrelated to her.

He never took them seriously.

He did not want to.

But the more he realized how distressed his parents seemed, there seemed to have something that sprouted his chest, urging him to look into this matter.

It was just last night when he overheard his mother talking to his younger brother, asking him to stay safe, to not be concerned about issues here and to avoid talking to anyone from the family.

Lu Xian had gone to bed after that but he could not sleep. Such a concern... Why did only his younger brother get it?

Doubt was like a blemish on a white surface. Once planted, it will stay, if not spread when forcefully removed.

After staring at his phone for eternity, he made the call for investigation. And at this juncture, he was led to this doctor as the final piece of clue.

He could not find the rest of the staff who were involved in his birth process. This was the only man standing in the end.

Lu Xian opened his eyes, a hint of clarity appearing in those crazed eyes,’’Did she die while giving birth to me or was she killed?’’

’’I killed her...’’ the man blurted when the dagger was pressed against his throat again. His eyes widening in horror, ’’But it’s that bitch... That slutty sister of mine.. She seduced me into doing it...’’

’’My elder brother’s health... Was he born like this? Or was he made into this?" Lu Xian’s voice was monotonous, as if he was talking about weather.

’’He... He was poisoned in small doses...’’ the man stuttered, ’’After your mother died, your father did not immediately marry my sister. She was his lover... He still had his hopes from your elder brother... At that time, I had gotten my medical license... Your mother got pregnant... and she.. she asked me to help with your elder brother... I dealt with the poison in his body... It was given in small doses. He won’t die but he won’t live well either.’’

Lu Xian did not say anything and looked at him like he was looking at something dead.

The man panicked, ’’I... His dosages have long been stopped. But those medications have been absorbed in his body. He won’t die anymore but his condition will stay like this... Please... I...’’

’’Why wasn’t I reduced to such a condition?" Lu Xian’s eyes flickered, ’’Mother had a soft corner for me?" his voice soft, a hint of hope in his tone.

The man who was tied to the chair almost sneered. He found it pathetic when he saw the scene. If not for the dagger at his throat, he would have laughed his ass off and mocked the man for his delusions.

’’She... saw you as a potential pawn.’’

The light in Lu Xian’s eyes dimmed, ’’A pawn...?"

’’Didn’t she succeed so far?" the man scoffed, ’’You crawled in the blood and reached the top. As you stand there, there is the flesh and bones of people you have trampled under you. Your hands are covered in sins but the Lu Corporations are thriving. You respect and love her as your mother. You trust her. If not for this little miscalculation and the revelation of her dark past, would you not have continued to trust her just as blindly?

Would you not have handed your life, your work, your everything to her if she asked for it? With your trust in her, would it be too hard for her to reduce you into a similar condition as your elder brother and have her son sit in your position?’’

The man, swept in his emotions, spat another mouthful of blood, ’’She played you like a puppet and you don’t even know. I don’t know if I should be angry or pity—’’

His words were left hanging in the air, his eyes were wide open as the dagger pressed against his throat plunged deep inside, splashing the warm blood on the sleeve of the gray tuxedo, staining it red.

Even as he died, the man had not expected it. He, who knew all the filthy and dirty secrets of the past, had thought that he was an important bargaining chip. He won’t die as long as he holds even a small piece of information in his mind.

Too bad.

He miscalculated.

Lu Xian was not looking for the ins and outs of this matter. This was not an enemy he was dealing with but a woman whom he treated as a mother for the past decades.

Apparently, the same mother who killed the woman who gave birth to him, crippled his brother and used him throughout his life.

His heart was in shreds already. What more would he achieve by twisting a dagger in there?

Wasn’t it better to put an end to it?

’’That’s rather pathetic.’’

A familiar voice rang from behind.

Lu Xian’s lips parted, ’’When she arranged the engagement between Daisy and her son, she must have already planned how she wanted me to die.’’

No wonder. No wonder. His crippled brother was not considered for that marriage. But it was the youngest son of the Lu Family who was chosen.

Not him. Not the one who handled the business. Not him, as the rightful heir, was considered for that marriage.

How did he even look past it?

’’It is rather pathetic that you can manage to connect everything to Daisy. In some ways, it is admirable too.’’
