Chapter 214: The petty one
"She won’t be petty enough to hold such a small grudge..." he sighed.
If a glass of wine splashed at her could affect her to this extent and invoke her hatred, then Lu Xian would have felt uplifted. At least, he would have known how easy it was to move her heart, to make her love or hate someone.
But that wasn’t the case. He knew.
No matter what kindness someone showed her, she remained unmoved. And similar was this. No matter how people hurt her or harmed her, she remained unmoved.
Daisy Chen was like a wounded beast, keeping everyone at a distance. Unless her wounds were poked, she would not snarl.
Like a dragon’s reverse scales, her weaknesses needed to be touched in order to incur her wrath.
And, he, more than anyone else knew that his mother’s glass of wine could not do that. She was far from being that petty.
But in a moment of his keen reflection on Daisy, he forgot that she might not be petty about such small grievances that she suffered but there was someone behind her who would become tyrannical at the sight of a scratch on her.
Nor once did he consider Ryle’s stand in this matter. Perhaps deep down, he did not acknowledge that a man like that could be sincere to anyone or perhaps he just wanted to turn a blind eye to it entirely.
Mrs. Lu had yet to say anything when her phone started buzzing.
She answered the phone and her expressions changed, "W-What..."
Apparently, Mrs. Lu’s wine tragedy was not where the Lu Family’s disaster ended. Instead, it was just the beginning.

In the Si Family.
The mansion was enshrouded in a gloom. With their family declining, many of the old servants had gradually left so there were very few people in the enormous mansion.
At this moment, Mr. Si and Mrs. Si were both in the master bedroom, discussing the events that transpired yesterday.
Suddenly, there were sounds of approaching footsteps.
"Master, Madam... there..." the butler stuttered, unable to form any words.
"What happened?"
Both the people inside the room stood up.
At this moment, one could see the fluster on their faces.
Even the smallest commotion like this could evoke such a reaction from them and that only revealed their standing at the moment.
Being one of the four prestigious families, the Si Family still was far cry from the remaining three. Neither in wealth nor in powers could they compare to the Qin, Chen, or the Lu family. Their powers were long declining.
The current Master of the Si Family was not as competent in business as his late father so their situation even worsened in the past decade.
But still, they had certain hopes because Si Yena was once very close to Daisy Chen so they had expected to set Daisy up with their son. Yet, their plans were not realized.
Daisy was betrothed to the youngest son of the Lu family. No matter how unwilling they were, they had to accept that those two families would then be connected.
However, a miracle took place and the marriage never happened. Yet, before they could celebrate, the situation with Si Yena occurred. That foolish daughter of theirs eloped with her bodyguard and some time later, she fully offended Daisy.
So, there was no way they could seek a connection with the Chen Family anymore.
The Qin Family was unapproachable and they stayed far away from the public eyes, enigmatic and aloof so it was harder to consider them. Moreover, the Qin family and Chen family became one by marriage as Diana married the young master of the Qin Family whom they recently acknowledged.
With this turn of events, Mr. Si and Mrs. Si knew that they had no choice but to turn to the Lus.
Mrs. Si was heartbroken at the loss of her daughter who disappeared mysteriously but still, the truth remained that they had indeed intended to use this matter to drag Daisy down.
But they never expected Ryle Harper’s interference in this nor did they expect him to have such a powerful background.
At this point, they were at their wits’ end.
They could only hope that trouble did not come knocking at their doors.
So, every moment of gathered courage kept them at tenterhooks which is why the butler’s exaggerated reaction gave them a scare.
"Say it!" Mr. Si snapped.
The butler shivered but he hurriedly dropped to his knees as he spoke, "M-Master, there are authorities outside. And there w-was a phone call. Young Master is admitted to hospital. He was beaten..."
"What?" Mrs. Si paled, "My son.. my dear son... Why.."
"Tell me clearly what happened. Why are the authorities here?"
"They.. They asked us to find you. They said there are multiple criminal charges against the Young Master and..." The butler shivered, "The hospital informed that Young Master was severely beaten by people who later threw him there. They found the problem suspicious and later discovered that it has to do with gambling and fund embezzlements so they also informed the authorities. Currently, they have... d-detained him there..."
"How... No.. How could it be... My son... My son won’t be involved in these matters.. There is no way..."
"Shut up!" Mr. Si snapped at her, "Even at this point, you are concerned about that unfilial son. At least, our daughter was sharper than this bastard and she managed to befriend the Chen Family at that time but this bastardly son of yours never really added anything but even brought troubles to us at this critical time!" The man was visibly enraged as he spoke, his entire body trembled slightly.
Mrs. Si shook her head, "No.. No... Listen to me. We are not from some ordinary family. You... You should reach your contacts and suppress this matter..."
Mr. Si pushed the woman who was trying to cling to him and the woman collapsed on the floor from the impact.
