Chapter 195: Sorry for not being around

The moment his words dropped, a small card appeared between Ryle’s index finger and middle finger.

The people who were far away could not see what it was but the officers who were standing up so close had gotten a clear look of the matte black card that had the faint outlines of a silver star on top of it.

The faces of the higher ranked officers turned pale completely when they saw the card that Ryle was holding but the lower-ranked ones were clueless about it.

’’Who are you? How dare you threaten the police...’’

Someone had just taken a step forward when his superior gave him a death glare, ’’It’s a family insignia,’’ he spoke through gritted teeth when he saw that many others in his group were equally restless as if they wanted to go out and confront Ryle right away.

Hearing the words of their superior, the members of the police team who initially wanted to rush out held themselves back.

If what the man was holding was some clan’s insignia or family crest that caused the officers to be fearful to this extent, then that only signified one thing. The man was not to be messed with.

Even the officer who was talking to Ryle initially looked at the man with much more respect than before.

In fact, even before Ryle took out the family insignia, many elites and police officers had already recognized the man as Ryle Harper.

The man had a mysterious reputation in the elite circles and nobody knew his roots.

The officer quickly looked at Ryle respectfully with a flattering smile on his face, ’’So, Mr. Harper is someone from the Kingsley family. My bad. I failed to see the whole picture before I acted impulsively...’’ he was breaking out in a cold sweat inwardly when he saw that Ryle’s expressions remained unchanged even after his sincerest apology.

In fact, when they were promoted to their current positions in the police department, they would receive information about many things from the higher-ups one of which would be the forces who currently held the most power in their cities and countries.

This had not been the part of their rules before but in a place where there were crouching tigers and hiding dragons, many higher ranked officers had lost their jobs in the past due their mistake of offending them.

So their departments circulated these new rules in order to ensure that they knew when to retreat and when to advance.

The police officer distinctly remembered that in the list he had received, the Kingsley family was mentioned at the top and there was their family insignia on the side as well. In the information given, it was mentioned that the Kingsley family originated in Russia but over the centuries, they were rooted in America where they became more powerful. Yet, despite being a powerful family, their reach went far beyond just their country.

They did not have any legal arrest warrant against Daisy Chen yet they intruded into this place bravely because it was the Lu Family’s call. The list that the officer had received back at the time of his promotion also mentioned the Lu family who had their powers in underworld as well. But when he thought about the Kinglseys who occupied the first position, he could not remember on which page he found the name of the Lus.

So, there was no way he was going to defend a snake only to be haunted down by the dragon.

The rest of the people who were standing behind the officer also got a grip of their current circumstances. Seeing their leader backing off, they also retreated without any qualms.

Ryle did not pay them any attention. His fingers fiddled with the insignia in his hand before he eventually slid it inside his suit jacket.

And then his gaze traced over the people who had manipulated and escalated this situation to it’s current point in order to corner Daisy.

’’Lu Family. Si Family.’’

Ryle looked at the master and madam of Lu family who seemed unwilling to accept the current results.

’’You should ask your good son to pester Daisy before you attempt to make a move against her,’’ his indifferent gaze settled on the Si Family, ’’Long time no see.’’

The Si Family recognized the man in front of them. They had hired security services from Harper Societies in the past so they knew that the person in front of them was Ryle Harper, the infamous CEO of Harper societies. The man already had a fearsome reputation in the past so they did not dare to offend him.

But now seeing how his identity did not seem to be as simple, both Mr. Si and Mrs. Si were afraid of bringing more disaster into their family.

However, Ryle did not let them go just because they avoided his gaze, ’’I killed the bodyguard your daughter eloped with and had my men escort her back to your mansion.’’

There was pin-drop silence in the place following Ryle’s words.

The man talked about killing someone so casually in front of such a huge crowd that it terrified them. It terrified them that they knew too much to survive till the next day.

’’I don’t know how you managed to get my woman into the whole equation,’’ Ryle’s brows tugged together as he looked at the couple in disdain, ’’Your daughter died? So what?"

Everyone could hear the arrogant undertone in his words.

So what if your daughter died? What has it got to do with my woman? Who do you think you are to question her?

The faces of Mr. Si and Mrs. Si turned pale but no matter what they wanted to say, they did not utter a single word in the end.

’’Are you alright?" Neither did Ryle bother to look at anyone else after that. Instead, he turned around to look at Daisy who had been silent all along.

Seeing her blank face, his heart ached, ’’I am sorry for not being around,’’ he whispered.

Although his words were not loud, but the environment that had sunk in pin drop silence still let a few people register what he was saying. More so, they could see his apologetic and sincere expressions as he looked at the woman in front of her.
