Chapter 188: The night of event
"No, the money is not from any strange sources. My boyfriend helped me out with this matter,’’ Daisy calmly said, unfazed by the shock on Secretary Han and Ivy’s faces.
It was not that they did not know about Daisy’s special relationship with Ryle but they had clearly not expected her to be so verbal about it.
Caleb paused at the mention of Ryle. The face of that young man flashed in his mind and his face became a little complicated. ’’Alright, then that’s good.’’
’’President, about the renovation of this place, who do you want to be in charge for it? And shall we also change this company’s original name?"
Daisy could see the disappointment in Caleb’s eyes when he heard of the changes being mentioned, ’’No, the company will retain it’s current name ’Elite’. Since Dad has not changed it till now, there must be a reason behind it,’’ As she spoke, she looked at Caleb and continued, ’’And I would want Uncle to oversee this company closely.
Caleb looked up and Daisy in surprise, ’’Me...?"
’’As the COO, you don’t have to stay in the company headquarters all the time and as the previous CEO of this company, no one is a better option compared to you in handling these responsibilities.’’
The man’s eyes widened and he looked at her in shock. He had never once talked about it then...’’How... How did you know?" he was certain that Helian Chen must have buried the past records so it was impossible for the little girl to know anything even if she investigated. Then how was she so confident and sure about these things?
’’I was guessing but your reaction just now made me sure,’’ Daisy blinked.
Caleb was speechless. Were all youngsters this sly these days? Was he living under a rock all this time?
Since the matter at Elite was handled and Daisy even hired the first employee herself, she was quite satisfied with the result.
After Daisy left Elite, Secretary Han personally escorted her back to the Chen Mansion and said, ’’President, I have made all necessary arrangements for you but if there is something that you find lacking, please tell me.’’
’’What arrangements?" Daisy looked at the man curiously.
Secretary Han’s lips twitched, ’’Tonight is the night of the ball at Lu Family,’’ he informed the woman whose face immediately turned dark.
Daisy pinched the spot between her brow. After the last shareholder meeting, Lu Xian stuck to his words and transferred his shares to her for real, which was although calculated by her already but that did not stop her from being surprised. She had expected the man to stir a few troubles but his resolute actions made her certain that he did not mean her any harm, at least not for now, as far as she could see.
That night, Director Yu and Chen Lina were also fired by her. These series of events had tamed the higher ups in the company who were constantly badgering her. The matter of the company funds was also solved by Ryle’s investment. And after handing over the duties of Elite to Caleb, Daisy had thought that she would come back early to spend the rest of the day with Angel at the mansion.
And she had completely forgotten about the Lu Family’s event.
When she entered the mansion, she did not find anything amiss at first until she spotted a few servants standing in front of a guest room.
The butler quickly came over, ’’Miss, I cleaned up one of the guest rooms for you to dress up for the event since little missy was playing in your room with Nanny Lu.’’
Daisy nodded at the man gratefully, ’’Thank you for your hard work.’’
After the man left, she looked at the guest room and still found it a little intimidating so in the end, she went to her room.
Ivy followed her, ’’Aren’t you worried that you will be late for the event?"
’’It’s okay. It’s not a wedding and I am not a bride,’’ there were hours left before the event of the Lu Family so she did not want to bother getting dressed up for it since noon.
She knew that part of the reason why these people were putting so much effort into dressing her up for the event must have something to do with her father. In the last few days, whenever she contacted the man, he seemed rather eager about topics like her marriage and non-existent husband. So, these people all must be conspiring together to treat the Lu Family’s event as her potential marriage hunting field.
When Daisy entered her room, she found Angel playing with a few dolls on the floor, looking extremely bored and lazy. However, she was glad that the girl did not seem to be sad. Before she left for work in the morning, she had arranged all sorts of things to keep Angel entertained. It had been two days since Ryle left and he had not contacted her yet.
Perhaps it had become a habit for Angel so every night she went to sleep, she would look for Ryle. And Daisy had no choice but to distract the girl. She did not know what Ryle was up to but since he did not call her, she did not take the initiative to contact him since she did not know where he was and whether it was safe for him to talk to her.
In the morning, she had wanted to take Angel to the company with her but that concerned her as well. She did not want to expose the little girl to the corporate world. Although everything seemed calm on surface for now but it was hard to know what hidden intentions anyone harboured. So, Daisy had left Angel in Aunty Lu’s care.
’’Our little girl has been obedient all day,’’ Aunty Lu immediately stood up when she saw Daisy, ’’And you won’t believe that she has everyone wrapped around her little finger just like that.’’
Daisy looked at the adorable dumpling before looking up at Aunty Lu, ’’She has her ways.’’
Aunty Lu beamed and was about to say something when she saw Ivy entering the room after Daisy.
Daisy noticed how the smile on her face died a little and she had a hard time maintaining it. In the end, the woman soon excused herself.
Ivy frowned but when Daisy looked over at her, she just shrugged helplessly.
Daisy also did not say anything. It was obvious that Ivy was clueless and even if Aunty Lu had some relations with Ivy’s mother, the latter had passed away a long time ago so there was no point for the living to suffer over the actions of the dead. Daisy did not know where Aunty Lu’s displeasure was coming from but seeing that Ivy had composed herself and come to terms with it, Daisy had nothing to worry about.
After spending a few hours with Angel, Daisy finally gave in to the butler’s and Secretary Han’s persistent urgings and walked to the guest room.
Ivy and Angel walked hand in hand and followed her like a tail.
When she stepped inside the guest room, Daisy almost felt like she had stepped into an unknown place which was not a part of Chen Mansion. The entire guest room had been transformed into what looked like a celebrity’s makeup room.
Since Daisy had instructed them to not take it seriously and just give her a light makeup to go with the theme of the event, she was ready within an hour.
For the event, Secretary Han had arranged gowns by top designers and had them queued up in a row. Daisy choose one of the most low-key ones which was the colour of emerald green.
Once she donned her dress and came out, Ivy who was playing with Angel gasped and gave her a thumbs up.
Daisy smiled and turned to look at her reflection in the mirror.
’’Mommy.. mommy... pretty...’’ Angel tugged at the gown and looked at Daisy with stars in her eyes.
Daisy’s eyes inadvertently softened and she picked the girl up in her arms and kissed the tip of her nose.
’’Daisy, why don’t you take Angel with you?" Ivy asked when she saw that the little girl had gotten off from Daisy’s arms and busied herself with makeup kits and other things.
Daisy looked at the little girl and shook her head, ’’The last time I brought her to such an event was because it was organized by dad,’’ even though their relations were strained at that time but she knew things won’t be tough. But she never intended to take Angel to a place like Lu family impulsively.
When Ivy heard her words, she felt like it made sense.
’’I will back as soon as possible,’’ After giving Angel a few goodbye kisses and spending some time with her, Daisy reluctantly got up.
But she had just taken a step when her phone buzzed simultaneously indicating back to back texts.
Daisy took out her phone to check the texts but the moment her gaze landed on them, she froze in her spot.
’’What happened....’’ Ivy almost bumped into Daisy’s back when she stopped abruptly but her voice trailed off when her gaze accidentally landed on Daisy’s phone.
