Chapter 173: You did come true for me

In front of Chen Corporations.

When Ryle pulled his car on the other side of the road, he looked at the building that occupied a huge area. Many floors were still fully lit at this hour.

’’How long is it going to take you in there?" he turned to ask Daisy who was still scrolling through the data that her Secretary had mailed her.

’’Not sure,’’ Daisy replied without looking up from her phone.

In the next moment, the phone was gone from her hand.

Daisy frowned and looked up, only to find Ryle already looking at her with a solemn gaze.

’’What is it?" she blinked.

’’It’s 30 minutes past 4 am already. Get done with it soon.’’

Daisy looked at the time. Thinking that the man must be exhausted, she spoke up, ’’You go back to the mansion and rest. I will go back with the driver.’’

Ryle pinched the spot between his brows.

Daisy felt helpless again. Why was he still not satisfied? "Then what else do you want?"

Ryle’s eyes softened when he heard her inquisitive voice. Usually, she was so smart and had everything under her control but when it came to such things, she seemed to have turned completely silly.

He reached out to hold her hand and stroked her fingers gently, ’’Sweetheart, it’s not about me. I will be right here, and trust me I can wait for you for ages here, not just a day or night, let alone a couple of hours,’’ he paused and then reached out his other hand towards her face to caress it, ’’But you are tired. Even if you deny it, your face is pale. You haven’t slept properly ever since you took over your father’s position. And tonight, I have been selfish enough to keep you up when you should be resting when my initial intention was for you to rest...’’

Daisy pressed her finger on his lips, ’’I am not a child, but the mother of a child.’’

He looked at her helplessly. His hazel eyes narrowed and after some time, he held her hand and kissed her finger, ’’Then go finish your work like a good girl and be back on time.’’

’’I just said I am not a child,’’ What good girl? And why did it sound so obscene and naughty coming out of his mouth?

Ryle smiled at the sight of her ’I am flustered but I won’t let it show’ face.

In the end, before he could say something else, Daisy proceeded to get out of the car but the man held her hand.

’’What is it... mmm...’’

Her words trailed off when he captured her lips abruptly. Ryle cupped her face and kissed her deeper when she gave him access.

When they parted, he stroked her cheeks and looked into her eyes deeply.

As Daisy caught her breath, she placed her palm on his and looked at him questioningly, ’’What’s wrong?"

’’Your father is a smart man.’’

’’Huh?"

’’I want to elope with you the same way he eloped with your mother. Then, I will keep you all to myself, no work meetings.’’

Daisy rolled her eyes, ’’Stop daydreaming. Did you ask me if I prefer that kind of life?"

Ryle sighed. Of course, he knew she would not be up for that. And before Daisy, he would not have been up for that kind of a life as well even though he did not have much attachment with everything as it was in his life. He did not even know what prompted him to think that way out of nowhere.

Maybe she seemed enough.

More than enough.

’’Daisy..’’

She looked at him.

Her patience made him smile. She had a meeting to attend, she had people waiting for her, and the perfectionist that she was, she would want it to be all under her control. Yet, she was sitting there patiently, giving him all her undivided attention just because he refused to let her go.

His heart warmed.

To Daisy, she knew her priorities. She did take over her father’s position but she would never become like him. The company, with all its ups and downs, she would be able to revive it any day and anytime but if she put her people on hold, then these missed moments might never come back.

What forbade her from leaving Ryle’s side was the child-like reluctance in his eyes. He rarely showed such emotions to her, and rarely did he hold her back from anything. She did not what he was thinking or what bothered him but if he needed her, then she could put everything down for the moment to be there.

When she thought he would not say anything, he spoke up, ’’My mother used to urge me to wish upon a falling star when I was young. And instead of wishing, every time, I would question her if she wished upon one too.’’

Ryle lowered his head and half-smiled as he continued, ’’And she would patiently tell me every time she always wished upon them...’’

Then, in turn, his younger self would question her, ’Then why are you living a life like this? Did you wish for all this sadness?’

The woman would smile, ’No but wishes do come true.’

Hence, little Ryle never really found her words credible so he never wished upon the falling stars when she urged him.

When she was on her deathbed, she told him that she had no regrets because all her wishes came true. She got the most precious gifts in the form of her children.

Growing up, whenever Ryle saw a falling star, he would think back to her words in silence and still find it lacking credibility.

While he spoke, Daisy simply wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him quietly, wishing she was better at words.

But he did not seem to mind it. He kissed her shoulder and placed his palm on her back, ’’Now that she is not here to convince me, I realize that she was right all along. Wishes do come true, even the ones you don’t say out aloud, the ones that rest in your unconscious, in the deepest part of the soul. You did come true for me.’’

Daisy’s eyes felt moist and she closed them, hugging the man tighter and they stayed in that position for some time before Ryle pulled back.

He cupped her face and kissed her forehead, ’’Look at you lazing around in my arms. As comfortable as it is, you have a meeting to attend,’’ he said as he tapped her nose.

Daisy touched her nose lightly and gave him a look.

The man alighted the car and walked to the other side before opening the door for her.

Daisy glanced at his outstretched hand and placed her hand in his before she stepped out.

’’I will be back soon...’’ she trailed off when she saw a figure walking towards them from the shadows. The vicinity of the company was well lit but the road to the underground parking was slightly dark so she could not see anything other than the person’s silhouette.

Daisy frowned and pushed her hand behind Ryle, her hand resting over the gun near the back of his torso.

Ryle was not surprised at the fact that she knew where he kept her gun and she had the confidence to believe that he carried one every day as well. She really seemed to know these things about him like the back of her hand.

’’You did not bring yours?" Ryle questioned.

’’Temporary limitations,’’ she whispered, her sharp gaze focused in front of them.

She did not have to explain further for him to understand what she meant. Since she had to come to the company every day now, she was refraining herself from carrying a gun so as to aggravate the already existing troubles. Chen Corporation did not majorly have any illegal dealings unlike Lu Corporation or the other aristocratic families. Even the Qins, Maxim’s family, dealt with certain underworld affairs, although subtly.

So if some eagle-eyed person saw Daisy carrying a pistol on her then it would only add to the chaos which is why she was temporarily giving in to the restrictions of her circumstances, at least until the dust settled.

Daisy’s grip on Ryle’s gun tightened and she almost pulled it out until she saw that the person emerging from the darkness was a familiar face.

Caleb glanced at Ryle for a few seconds and a small frown appeared on his face but it disappeared before anyone could notice it. He looked away towards Daisy.

’’You little girl, is this a time to call for a meeting,’’ Caleb said as he fixed his stray hair with one hand, "My blood almost froze because of how cold it was while driving here,’’ he said while stuffing the keys in the pocket of his suit jacket.

And as he did that, his gaze once again flew back to Ryle, lingering longer this time as if he was seeking his identity.
