Chapter 165: Let’s make one

When Secretary Han walked out of the meeting room, he spotted Daisy standing in a corner, texting someone on her phone. He quickly approached her, ’’President, the next meeting...’’

"Cancel the remaining meetings,’’ Daisy said without looking up from her phone, ’’I will go home.’’

"_"

Secretary Han was speechless. Didn’t you tell Mr. Harper that you will be late because you have work to do?

Despite his curiosity, he refrained himself from commenting on it.

When Daisy reached home, Angel who was playing in the living room rushed towards her. Daisy got on her knees to hold the girl in her arms.

Ryle was sitting on the couch, watching over Angel. When he saw her running away, he put away his laptop and pushed himself to his feet.

When he saw Daisy, his eyes lit up.

’’Didn’t you say you will be late?"

Daisy looked at him but then averted her gaze, ’’Felt like you can’t take proper care of a child. And Ivy is too sick for that.’’

’’Oh, are you saying that I can’t raise a kid?" Ryle walked up to her.

’’You don’t have one so you lack experience,’’ Daisy said, slightly flustered by the sudden proximity.

Ryle chuckled. The sound of his deep laughter reverberated in the grand living room, ’’Daze, are you suggesting that I should have some experience with kids to be able to take care of one?"

Daisy looked at him, feeling like she had walked herself into a trap, and in the next moment, the man proved her right.

’’Then why don’t we make one?’’ Ryle leaned in, ’’With two kids at hand, I can practice on one and utilize on the other till I get better with taking care of them,’’ he whispered.

Daisy turned into a stone at the suggestive tone in his voice.

’’I have a virtual meeting in fifteen minutes so I will be with Angel,’’ she pointed her chin towards his laptop that was lying on the coffee table, ’’You can continue with your work.’’

Ryle nodded.

But just as she took a step, he held her hand.

’’What now...’’

Her words trailed off when the man cupped her face and leaned in towards her before he placed a kiss on her forehead. He watched as her long eyelashes fluttered as if she was still registering it.

A smile quirked on his lips and he kissed the tip of her nose before pulling back from her.

Ryle ruffled Angel’s soft blonde hair, ’’Go now.’’

Daisy came back to her senses and held Angel’s hand before taking her to the room.

The little traitor, although following her mother kept turning back at every step to look at Ryle and motioned with her palm as if motioning him to follow her.

By the time Daisy finished the meeting and wrapped up her work, it was almost evening.

’Knock Knock’

’’Come in.’’

’’Daisy,’’ Ivy entered the room hesitatingly.

Daisy walked towards the girl and checked her wounds, ’’They don’t seem much better than before. I will call the doctor over.’’

Ivy held her hand, ’’I need to talk to you about something.’’

Daisy nodded, ’’Take a seat first,’’ she led the girl to the couch.

When both of them sat, Ivy went completely quietly, hesitating about the things she had to say.

Daisy did not rush her and waited patiently. After some time, the girl spoke up.

’’I don’t know my father and I never had one. My mother was a single mother to me but things had been difficult before she passed away. I thought it would get better but she was involved with the wrong people when she lived and after she died, they came to haunt me,’’ she said softly.

Ivy’s words were vague but Daisy did not interrupt her.

’’I finished my education and moved away from Vegas, thinking that I got rid of them forever but this time when I took up the job and went there, I encountered those people in a few weeks. They threatened me, stalked me, and beat me at every chance they got. They barged into my workplace and dragged me out of there. I filed a complaint against them but it wasn’t received by the authorities.’’

Daisy did not need the girl to explain why the authorities did not record the report. There are many such syndicates and underworld forces in places with whom even the authorities won’t cross paths.

’’I was fired. And the project I had worked on for months, even years, was taken by the company.’’

Daisy’s brows tugged together. She vaguely had an impression of the game that Ivy passionately worked on. She remembered the girl who once showed her one of the characters.

’’I can’t take action against it because I had transferred partial rights to them. It has been a long time since I was working on my game but I never got the right platform to launch it and since my work contract was for several years, I thought I would not make a loss. But due to what they labeled as my ’indecent private life’, they had the right to fire him because they had a cause.’’

Daisy’s eyes turned cold, ’’And they had already seen the potential in your work so they were unwilling to suffer a loss and they stole all your hardwork and took the credit for it. Is that it?"

Ivy clenched her fingers into fists and held back her tears. She did not want to cry. It never helped. Over the years, when had the tears helped her?

Even when she was beaten and she was in pain, she got up and went to work thinking that it would all stop. She did not know how her late mother offended those people but she thought that they would soon give up on venting to her but she realized it too late that those were the same people who did not forget her existence for years even after she moved away. That only showed their immense hatred for her.
