Chapter 163: We can’t take risks

When Daisy stepped out of the car, Secretary Han quickly rushed forward to greet her. He looked behind her and could not help but question, ’’President, you did not bring Little Miss with you today?"
Daisy nodded, ’’She is at home.’’
Secretary Han did not question any further, assuming that she must have arranged a capable nanny for the little girl.
What he did not know was that the capable nanny was none other than a certain man who had come to Beijing overnight to spend some quality time with his CEO.
Daisy wanted to bring Angel with her but the moment she saw her mother dressed in a business suit, the girl jumped into Ryle’s arms and refused to leave his side. She started acting coy and stuck to him. Daisy understood that the girl was probably not very happy with her first experience at the company.
’I will keep her with me. You get more time to focus on work so finish it early and come back soon. Don’t keep us waiting,’ Ryle told her.
’Yes, I am here too so I will help in looking after her,’ Ivy added.
With the both of them being there, Daisy did not have much worries about Angel so she left her at home. Moreover, she brought the little girl with her yesterday because she had no other choice. Under normal circumstances, she did not want her to be surrounded by these bunch of people who were ready to lock horns at any given instant.
The moment Daisy stepped inside the meeting room, she felt a hostile gaze on her.
She nonchalantly walked towards the chair at the topmost center and took a seat calmly before meeting Chen Lina’s gaze straightforwardly, ’’Is there something that the Vice President wants to tell me?"
The rest of the people followed her gaze and looked at the woman who was stunned by Daisy’s words. She composed herself and spoke up, ’’President, I don’t mean to offend you but there is something that I want to ask.’’
Daisy looked at the woman quietly.
’’Did you demote my niece yesterday?"
Her direct words set the other members in an uproar.
’’It was her first day at work yesterday. Why would she fire the Vice President’s niece as soon as she stepped inside?"
"Didn’t you see how hostile she was towards the Vice President? It’s obvious that they are not as close to each other.’’
’’But still, isn’t it like slapping her on the face?"
The people discussed it amongst each other and everyone had different opinions about it. Some believed that Daisy must have done it to assert her authority while some assumed that she must have had a reason behind it.
Everyone looked at Daisy subconsciously, waiting for her answer but she simply nodded wordlessly.
Chen Lina frowned, ’’What do you mean by that?"
"You asked a question and I answered that I did demote your Rebecca Chen yesterday,’’ Daisy said nonchalantly.
’’You..’’ Chen Lina almost threw up a mouthful of blood in anger. The audacity of this woman! "Then, can I ask the reason behind it?"
’’That’s two questions now,’’ Daisy sighed and checked the time on her watch, ’’I have a busy day so if this meeting is all about your questions, I think I should leave the room right now since I am done answering.’’
The directors who had put multiple efforts into reaching out to Secretary Han to call for this meeting panicked when they heard that Daisy wanted to leave.
They quickly spoke up.
’’Vice President, this is not the time to discuss private matters.’’
’’Yes, even if your niece was demoted, there must be some reason behind it. You should ask her about it rather than questioning the President in the middle of an important meeting.’’
’’That’s too unprofessional of you.’’
Chen Lina fumed, her face switched colors. They were a branch family of the Chens because Daisy’s grandfather’s younger brother was Chen Lina’s father. Rightfully, the business was inherited by Daisy’s grandfather and his younger brother had no right over it. But still, the old man gave his younger brother a position in the company. After his death, that position was taken over by Chen Lina.
Chen Lina was not married and did not have a child of her own. After her elder brother and his wife passed away in an accident, Rebecca was left in her care so she had raised the girl as her own and she treated her like her own daughter. Last night, her niece had come crying to her and showed her the demotion letter.
No matter what, Chen Lina had not gone overboard in the meeting yesterday so she had not expected that Daisy would vent her anger on her niece. And now, she could not do anything about it because Daisy had successfully manipulated the environment in the room where everyone was out to defend her.
’’The previous President, our current Chairman had invested in the gaming industries more than a decade ago when he brought over a company that was in ruins. It has been stale for decades but now, in recent years, he attempted to revive it. Since there was some potential in it, there were investments but due to the recent rumors, the investors have all retreated. With the lack of funds, it’s impossible to revive it,’’ A director calmly analyzed as he looked at the numbers in the documents in his hand.
Another person chimed in, ’’Yes, even if you put forward your personal funds and then continue with the company funds to make it work, it will still be a failure. The gaming industry is rather unpredictable but profitable right now but at the same time, it’s like a share market only. Very risky. The development, marketing, distribution, and monetization of video games take a lot of funds and manpower. We will need talented individuals as well.’’
’’And Chen Corporation is not in the position to bet with the odds right now. We can’t take risks at this juncture,’’ Chen Lina, who had composed herself, sat straight and said in a professional manner.
