Chapter 159: Less than you

’’Investigate him.’’

Secretary Han was bewildered, ’’Huh?" Why was she interested in the COO suddenly?

’’He talks about variables but he seems like one,’’ Daisy did not know why this person gave her a familiar feeling but she trusted her instincts to a certain extent. If someone was not involved in her life on a close level, she would not have such a feeling for them.

’’Alright, I will get onto it right away.’’

’’Wait.’’

Secretary Han stopped in his tracks. Then he saw his poker-faced new boss standing up and examining the flowers that she had received, ’’Was there a card in it?"

Secretary Han observed the flowers closely before shaking his head, ’’It seems like there is not one.’’

’’Then contact the delivery company.’’

Secretary Han was speechless, ’’But President, maybe there was no note in it from the very beginning.’’

’’No note?"

Secretary Han fluttered to Daisy’s side and pointed his palm towards the flowers like the wing of an elegant swan, ’’Flowers speak for themselves. They don’t need an additional language. I can help you decode their meaning.’’

Daisy blinked and looked at him with interest. No wonder her father had kept this man. He did not seem as useless as she thought.

Had he heard her words, the man would have lacked tears to cry but since he had no idea, her gaze made him hopeful and he took it as a chance to shine by explaining it crisply, ’’These tulips signify many things but in your current situation, they would act as a signifier for admiration. Mr. Harper is obviously trying to congratulate you and express his admiration for you...’’ Initially, he still had some doubts but Angel’s confirmation had confirmed his doubt as well that these flowers were sent by none other than Ryle Harper.

Daisy nodded thoughtfully and felt like it made sense, ’’Then what about this?" she pointed at the pink camellia in the middle.

Secretary Han stroked his ’single’ heart a couple of times before he spoke, ’’The pink camellia obviously expresses his longing for you.’’

Daisy raised an eyebrow. Longing?

When Secretary Han thought that she was not going to say anything, she spoke up again, ’’Send some flowers to Harper Societies on my behalf.’’

’’Uh... which flowers do you want me to send?"

Daisy lowered her eyes to look at the huge bouquet, her long eyelashes cast a shadow on her face and a small smile flashed by her face imperceptibly.

...

Harper Societies, LA.

There was a pin-drop silence in the office room of the CEO.

Benjamin was standing with his head lowered and accompanying him were three of the elite guards of Ryle’s. One of them was Locke, the person who had shaved his head some days ago because of the bet he had placed with his fellow brothers back at Ryle’s mansion when Daisy was around.

’’You are saying that you lost track of it?" Ryle’s cold voice was like an icicle that pierced through everyone’s skin.

’’Boss,’’ Locke lowered his head, ’’We were not sure if that was the person we were looking for so we kept our distance. We were afraid of revealing ourselves.’’

The temperature in the room dropped even further.

’’Boss, we would get back at looking into it. If we track those people, we would certainly find some leads.’’

All the elite members around Ryle were aware of this one fact that all these years, he had been looking for someone. And his search for that person had never ceased despite the disappointments and failures that came his way.

So, his temper, in their eyes was very much justified because it was their oversight.

Ryle remained quiet and leaned back on the chair, a sadistic glint swirled in the pair of hazel eyes.

’Knock knock knock’

Benjamin held his breath. The consecutive knocks on the door told him that it was time for doom to descend on them. Which dumbfuck was out to get them killed? Did they not know that the devil was breathing fire obviously?

’Knock’

Benjamin gulped and quickly approached the door to reprimand the person who was knocking without restraints as if he had no fear for his life but the moment he opened the door, he could not see the person at all. Instead, it was just a pair of hands that were holding a bouquet... an unconventionally tall bouquet that was almost his height. And what’s more... the flowers...

From the corner of his eyes, Ryle’s eyes caught a glimpse of the daisies in his view.

Benjamin’s eyes twinkled and he felt like he had seen his saviour. Today, the boss was questioning him about the meaning of different flowers. After a lot of thought and calculations, he customized some bouquets and asked for them to be sent to a certain place. It seemed like these were the flowers of reciprocation.

’’Boss, shall I keep these outside?" Benjamin asked the man innocently. When Ryle did not respond and instead looked at the flowers quietly, the driver took it as a cue and said to the person who had come to deliver the flowers, ’’Keep them outside...’’

’’Shut up,’’ Ryle cut the man off, coming out of his daze. His lips twitched as he looked at his reckless driver who was getting on age or something for him to not realize that these daisies obviously signified his Daisy.

The flowers were positioned right next to his desk and when Ryle looked at it, seemingly observing it quietly, the rest of the people took it as a cue for them to leave.

Benjamin was also about to slip away but he was stopped by the man in his tracks. He winced inwardly. Did Boss see through this little scheme of his?

He rubbed his nose and waited for his punishment.

But after a long moment had passed, Ryle opened his mouth and asked a question that dumbfounded him, "Do you think she sent me this to invite me over to Beijing? Is she urging me to go there to see her as soon as possible?"

Benjamin almost vomited a mouthful of blood when he heard that, ’’It’s probably to show her appreciation for the flowers she sent and also a metaphoric way of being by your side, as in, although Miss Chen is not here, but she is still by your side in form of the flowers she sent,’’ he embellished the latter part to please the man because he doubted that a person as emotionless and cold as her would think that way.

She probably chose those flowers coincidentally and that too, for formality. After all, be it as Dexter or as Daisy, he had never seen that person showing too much enthusiasm towards his Boss. On the other hand, all along, it was his Boss’ one sided excitement that he did not want to dull.

’’What do you know?" Ryle glanced at the man, ’’She just misses me so she is sending these flowers over to seduce me into going there to see her.’’

"_" Boss, why are you delusional with such great confidence?

Daisy had just entered the car when her phone started ringing. Instead of checking it out, she adjusted her body in a position to put Angel comfortably on her lap. After a chaotic beginning of the day in the company, the rest of the day was comparatively smooth as Daisy executed her plans to stop the losses. So, little Angel dropped like a lazy baby panda in her mother’s arms the moment she got the chance.

Secretary Han was also efficient in his work. He had arranged for some trusted drivers and dispatched an elite team of bodyguards to escort her back and forth everyday, despite her insistence that she did not need such elaborate processions. The man somehow managed to convince her saying that her father would be concerned about her safety if he came to know about it. Daisy doubted that would happen but she did not want to make the man worry in any case. It would be better for their parents to live without any worries wherever they are.

Once Angel was comfortably nestled in her arms, Daisy picked up her phone and checked the caller ID. Looking at a certain someone’s name, her fingers immediately swiped on the answer option before the call could get disconnected.

’’Hello.’’

The new driver pulled up the partition in the car the moment Daisy took the call.

She leaned back on the seat and waited for the man’s response for some time before she looked at her phone again. The call wasn’t disconnected. The network also seemed to be fine.

’’Ryle?"

’’The flowers are beautiful, Daze...’’ the man whispered softly, his voice was so deep and seductive that it seemed to have been whispered straight into her soul.

’’Are they?" Daisy’s shoulders unconsciously relaxed.

’’Mm,’’ the man paused, ’’Less than you. Way less than you,’’ he added quietly, as if not quite satisfied with his initial statement.

Daisy’s lips twitched.
