Chapter 133: She fell
Daisy grabbed her phone and looked at the caller ID for a few seconds before she answered the call.
’’Hello, dad...’’
She had just started speaking when the man interrupted her words.
Daisy’s expressions changed slightly when she heard what he said but she soon composed herself.
...
City Hospital, Beijing.
Daisy rushed inside the hospital from the back entrance with Angel in her arms. Maxim and Diana followed soon after.
"Elder Miss, Young Miss,’’ Their father’s secretary stepped forward to greet them the moment they saw them, ’’Did the media members badger you? President has made sure such that they have no access to this hidden entrance but they have still blocked the other entrances of this place."
"How did they get the news?" Daisy frowned.
’’It’s hard to say. We are trying to look into it but there are many people involved in this matter so it is hard to say who released the news to the media. But from what I think, it should be one of the servants in the manor. Who else, but them will benefit by selling such news to the media for a measly amount of money?"
Diana could not bother with the technicalities. She walked away from Maxim who was holding her in his arms protectively, ’’How is mom?" she asked the man.
’’Madam..’’ the man hesitated.
Diana’s eyes welled up with tears, ’’What are you being so quiet for? Dad just informed us that she is unwell. He did not say that her condition is that serious...’’
It has been over 12 hours since they received the news from their father that their mother was admitted to hospital and without wasting any time, they flew to Beijing but still, every second seemed to be pass by slowly.
For Diana, the secretary’s reaction was like things were not as optimistic.
Daisy stroked her back quietly with one hand while gently rocking Angel in her arms. It was almost dawn and the girl had barely slept on the flight journey so she was also not as calm.
The secretary seemed flustered as he quickly explained, ’’You misunderstood me, Young Miss. I hesitated because I am unsure of Madam’s current condition. I have been handling the reporters who have blocked the hospital entrance and President also ask me to wait for you so that you don’t have any difficulties in finding this alternative way...’’
Diana did not let the man finish speaking as she rushed past him.
’’Chase up to her,’’ Daisy’s frown deepened as she whispered to Maxim who had followed Diana without a moment’s delay.
’’Lead the way,’’ Daisy glanced at the secretary who bowed and entered the hospital.
When Daisy reached the hallway where the man was taking her, she saw her father sitting on one of the chairs in front of the ICU. The man had his face buried in his palms as his elbows rested on his knees. This was probably the first time Daisy saw her father in such a vulnerable state and that too, the reason for it was her mother, the woman whom he seemed to despise.
She looked in the direction of the ICU where Diana was standing. Maxim had hugged her and he seemed to be whispering reassuring words in her ear while she hyperventilated.
Seeing the stressful atmosphere in the family, the secretary aptly turned around and left the place.
Daisy stood in her spot for some time before she approached her father and sat beside him, on the chair next to him.
Even the movement did not bring out of his trance.
’’Mommy...?" Angel who was whining in her mother’s arms paused and looked at the man in curiosity before she reached her tiny fingers to pry open his hands from his face.
Helian Chen finally raised his head when he heard the childish voice.
His bloodshot eyes landed on little Angel before he looked at Daisy, ’’You are here...’’ he took out a handkerchief and wiped his face, ’’I am not in a good state. I will scare away the child...’’
He was about to turn his face to the side when he felt a softness in his arms as the little bun jumped into his arms and continued to look at him curiously.
Helian Chen was stunned.
Daisy did not know if it was an illusion but she felt like her father’s eyes seemed to be sparkling with unshed tears as he held Angel in his arms but in the blink of an eye, he seemed to have turned to normal.
’’What happened?" Daisy cut their moment short as she questioned the man.
Helian Chen seemed to have snapped out of his daze as he looked at Daisy, ’’Your mother is in a stable condition now.’’
’’What happened?" Daisy repeated her question.
’’She fell off the stairs. That caused some severe spine damage but she is in a more stable condition now. Ideally, I would not have involved you into this but I was worried that you would get concerned with this matter if you got the news from somewhere else so I took the initiative to tell you,’’ the man explained when Diana and Maxim also walked over.
He glanced at Diana who was pregnant before looking at Maxim who was holding her protectively. Then his gaze lingered on Daisy and the little doll who was swinging her legs in his arms, and his eyes were filled with a warmth, ’’You all can go to manor and take some rest. I will be here.’’
’’No, you seem to be tired. I’ll stay here and you can go freshen up,’’ Daisy glanced at her father.
’’No.’’
The man refused outright, without any hesitation.
Daisy’s eyes darkened but she masked her expressions and shifted her gaze to Diana, ’’Then, you...’’
Diana shook her head before Daisy could finish.
But Daisy continued speaking as she pointed her chin at the ICU, ’’She won’t be happy when she wakes up in this setup. You need to bring her clothes,’’ she took Angel, who was beginning to doze off from her father’s arms and handed her to Maxim, ’’Also, put her her to sleep. She has barely slept last night in all this rush. It’s almost 5 am now. I am afraid she will fall sick.’’
