Chapter 122: Cold shoulder

Daisy sat up on the bed when she heard Aunty Lu’s voice, ’’Come in.’’

Angel acted spoiled and rubbed herself against her while pointing at the drawing and chanting ’pox pox pox’ but Daisy tapped her forehead, ’’Naughty.’’

’’It seems like both of you were having fun. Did I disturb you?"

’’Please come. Sit,’’ Daisy placed Angel down on the floor to play.

When she saw the concerned look on Aunty Lu’s face, she frowned, ’’Is everything alright with you?"

Daisy did not know if it was her illusion or what but she felt like the batch of elite bodyguards avoided Aunty Lu whenever they crossed paths and Aunty Lu also didn’t look their way that much.

She had not meddled before because it was not her issue to be concerned about.

But in the past few weeks, the woman had been extremely kind to her and Angel both and she had been genuine to them. So while Daisy would not involve herself in her matters but she knew that if the woman was bullied or cornered in any manner, she would back her up.

When Aunty Lu remained quiet, Daisy asked again, ’’If there is anything or anyone that’s bothering you, you can tell me about it.’’

Aunty Lu hesitated for another moment before she seemed to have made up her mind, ’’It is not my place to ask this but I cannot help a few things. Is there any conflict between you and Master?"

Daisy remained quiet. She knew that their behavior was so visible that anybody would doubt that something was wrong between them. That was within her expectations but she had not expected Aunty Lu to confront her about it.

’’I know it is not my place really but I had served the Madam for a long time and I have seen little Master grow up until Madam passed away. While I was away, I did not have the opportunity to meddle in his affairs but now that I am in front of him, I could not help but think of how much Madam wanted him to find his happiness. And ever since I came back here and saw him as a grown-up man, I too hoped that he was happy.’’

As the silence lingered in the air, Aunty Lu seemed to have sunken into her thoughts before she looked at the golden branches that were extended from the wall, ’’When I saw those two parrots for the first time, I was very surprised. He still hasn’t forgotten his old ways,’’ the woman inhaled a deep breath before she continued speaking, ’’You must be thinking I am old and talking gibberish, Daisy. But I have seen the way he seeks solace in you and Angel. I remember the young boy who did not have a single friend that he could invite over for his birthday and then I see how he treats you with sincerity.’’ 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

’’If there is something that he has done wrong or something that you did not like then talk it out with him. Don’t give him the cold shoulder,’’ Aunty Lu smiled before she patted Daisy’s shoulders, ’’I’ll take Angel out to play with the guards. She has also locked herself with you in the room as if she is also angry,’’ the woman chuckled.

Just as the woman was about to walk out with the little traitor who ran out at the mention of ’play’, Daisy ended up questioning, ’’Why did you mention the parrots?"

’’You can ask Master yourself. Maybe it will help you break the ice.’’

The room returned to its initial silence once Aunty Lu left.

Daisy fell into contemplation.

She could not imagine Ryle as a detached young boy who did not have a single friend. Maybe because she had always seen him wearing approachable facades, she had seen him giving people those smiles that hid the fact of how dangerous he was. He could be approachable when he wanted and he could dupe anyone with his playful persona.

She fell back on the bed and twisted her body till she was lying on her stomach.

She picked up the pencil that she had dropped earlier and unconsciously sketched a fox with somewhat animated and human-like expressions.

The more Daisy looked at it, the further it seemed like Ryle.

Annoyed, she closed the notepad and sat up on the bed.

In fact, it was not like Daisy did not want to talk to Ryle or she was holding a grudge on purpose. She usually didn’t. She overlooked things that did not bother her.

But him, not involving her in his troubles while he was there for her at every juncture, from each and every small façade to big disasters bothered her. It strangely bothered her.

And the fact that something like that bothered her... was also bothering her.

In the past, she would have been glad if he decided to keep her out of his troubles. She would have felt like she had less work to do and less mess to get herself involved in but now, it was this strange feeling in her chest. A disillusionment that seemed to have gripped her heart.

She did not have the urge to not talk to him even when he had sent the lawyers over to her place. But this time, she had felt a burning anger in her heart when acted that way. And she did not even know why she was angry.

That night, Ryle reached the mansion rather early. When it was dinner time, he glanced in the direction of the closed door of the Master Bedroom which showed no signs of opening.

"Miss Daisy is feeding Angel. The little girl had a long day playing around and she did not even sleep in the afternoon so she was starting to doze off in the evening,’’ Aunty Lu could not help but answer helplessly, trying to gloss it over for Ryle’s ears.

Ryle did not say anything. He looked at the dinner for a moment before he got up and walked upstairs.
