Chapter 109: I will shave my head

Hence, left with no choice, Daisy proceeded to investigate yesterday’s assassination attempt but there were no leads. The CCTV recordings in the apartment were wiped off and no source was left for her to recover.

Still, Daisy did not give up there. She proceeded to check for any other cameras in the locality. Her fingers gradually increased their speed and the little ball who was growing disobedient in her mother’s arms stared at the laptop screen and her mother’s fingers with a wide and focused gaze.

Even two bodyguards who had entered the mansion halted in their tracks. Angel was initially playing with them before she started missing her mother and rushed inside the mansion hence they had followed her inside the place to see if she reached her mother safely.

But they did not expect to witness this scene inside the mansion.

One of the two bodyguards was the man who was suspended from his position by Ryle back in Shanghai for his impulsive actions for questioning the man. He had been very displeased by Daisy’s lingering presence around their Boss. Be it the last time in Shanghai, or this time, she seemed to be one of those pampered heiresses that sat in their castles with their legs curled and expected everything to be served at their feet.

His perception of her worsened even further after he was suspended from his position. However, due to the current chaotic events, he was asked to resume his work and this time, he tried his best to remain professional and not bring his personal judgement to work so as to not offend his Boss again.

His dislike towards Daisy had decreased somehow when he saw how calmly she had dealt with the assassination attempt that occurred at her place and no longer did he think that she was a liability.

However, what was happening now? That stance, the way she handling the laptop, it all seemed very familiar to him. He just could not put a finger on why and where he had witnessed it before.

’’Is she hacking into something?" The man next to him question.

Locke found it absurd, ’’Are you nuts?" she was just a pampered heiress their Boss had taken a fancy to now, ’’It is already surprising that she knows titbits of self defense. If she knows the ’h’ of hacking, then I will shave my head.’’

Before he could finish speaking, three more guards had already arrived behind him and overheard his words.

They had no such prejudice against Daisy and instead, they found her rather cool after the way she handled with the assassination attempt by the riverside back in Beijing. Their Boss had not allowed to follow them closely hence they were left at a distance where they helplessly watch the boat skipper making a move on their Boss.

But during their most helpless moment, just as they thought the situation was irreversible, they saw a thin figure moving. Daisy flipped the whole situation in the matter of a few seconds. And she still looked like that delicate and graceful young miss of a aristocratic family while killing a person without blinking.

It was only then that they realized that the woman by their Boss’s side was not what they imagined her to be. Even if she was, they had no opinions about it. They would still serve her the same if their Boss wanted them to because it was their duty.

However, Daisy’s actions made the grown men see the her in a new light. They found it rather intriguing how a person can have two sides that were so polarly different. And then they realized that she was not what she showed herself to be nor was she a pretentious or crazy person who would sit with her laptop and type away things randomly.

"Heh~ Remember your words then, Locke.’’

’’If you have some balls, you better practice what you are preaching..’’

’’Tsk...’’

Locke somehow did not have a good feeling about his words and this whole fiasco that had followed.

The three men mocked the man and dragged their other fellow with them before approaching Daisy who was sitting on the long couch, focused on her laptop. Surprisingly, the little girl who could not sit still in one place was also sitting on her mother’s lap like an obedient doll, seemingly engrossed in the codes that appeared on the screen.

The elite guards could not understand the codes. This was not their forte but they were intrigued with everything. However, they were smart enough to not interrupt her momentum.

Daisy had no idea about the entourage gathered behind her.

After a long time, her fingers stopped and the blank page showed a couple of video recordings.

’’Miss Chen, these are...’’ From the thumbnail, the men roughly found the place rather familiar.

Daisy turned her head, briefly taken aback when she saw the five men gathered around the couch. She had worked as Ryle’s secretary for a long hence she was familiar with each of them even though they did not have a lot of interactions in the past.

’’These are some of the CCTV recordings from the locality of my apartment,’’ she had no intentions to hide it from them because she knew how loyal they were to Ryle based on her own experience and second, they had taken the remaining assassins down after she lost her consciousness so it was not like they wee clueless about the things.

The men were amazed.

’’Ryle must have asked the IT department to retrieve it as well,’’ Daisy stated when she saw the look of shock on their faces. She did not feel like it was any out of ordinary kind of experience for them to sport such expressions.

Ryle should have already done it. The only reason those guards were clueless about it was because they were not responsible for this department in the line of work.

Hence, they were perhaps surprised by this new foresight.

However, Daisy had clearly forgotten that she was not disguised as Dexter while she sat with her laptop and hacked away the surveillance of a secluded and guarded society so frivolously. For the men who saw her as a woman their boss had taken a fancy to, they were clearly shocked and amazed by the plot twist.

Daisy browsed through the recordings in the presence of the guards.

However, there was nothing that caught her attention.

The people were spotted however there was still no lead left.

’’They were too cautious. They came in a row of ordinary cars with the number plates hidden and they were disguised from the very beginning. They were cautious from the very beginning and they took an alternative route inside the apartment so as to not catch attention,’’ one of the guards analyzed the situation in front of his eyes, coming to the same conclusion as Daisy.

Daisy sighed.

It seemed like a dead end again.

’’How many of them were left alive when you fought with them head on?"

"Few,’’ Locke, who had been quiet all this while answered.

Daisy looked at the man who seemed to be somewhere in his mid 40s. She knew that he was one of the most trusted members of Ryle’s elite forces and the way he had a commanding stance over his fellow teammates, he seemed to be their leader as well. But there had been many instances where she felt a sense of hostility from the man. However, Daisy did not care that much.

Even as Dexter, many people disliked her in Ryle’s company and she could not care less about them as long as they did not cross her line.

When she stayed silent, Locke thought he was waiting for him to explain so he further said, ’’They were rather violent and they fought like they had no qualms about their own life and death. When a few of our brothers were injured, we had to take them down. So, we only managed to retain the lives of a few but they were also fatally injured.’’

Daisy was stunned, ’’Some of you were injured?" she looked at all of them. She did not get to talk to Ryle properly regarding this matter so she did not know much. Before they could have a proper conversation or they could investigate this matter further, he was gone.

’’Just a few scratches, Miss Chen. Don’t worry,’’ the men said hurriedly.

Daisy did not know to what extent their words were true but seeing that they had the strength to flutter around and be on duty in such agile conditions, she assumed most of them should be well.

Later that night, Angel had just fallen asleep and Daisy was lying next to her on the bed, her gaze fixated on the mirrored ceiling and crystal chandeliers hanging above.

Her thoughts were in a disarray.

She did not know how long of a time had passed before she got out of the bed and adjusted the huge plush toys on either side of Angel’s body before she walked out the room.

She had just approached the staircase when something caught her attention from the corner of her eyes.

The storeroom that had been remodelled to a bedroom recently was lit up. That day, by the time she came back to Master Bedroom, she realized that all of Ryle’s things were gone from the place. So, she believed he probably realized the issue with the rooms and had the storeroom remodelled.

Daisy had thought she would tell him to shift back to the Master Bedroom while her and Angel can settle in the other room but there were no signs of him for a week.

In the past few days, whenever she passed by this place, it was always enshrouded in darkness.

However, today...
