Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Final Showdown (2): 3v1
Michael moved.
The angelic armor channeled light into his muscles, his bones, every fiber of his being, and what emerged was velocity that made his previous movements look like slow motion.
He rushed Karacus.
The dragon-kin’s instincts screamed at him to move. He lunged to the right, frost erupting from his feet to create a sliding platform that accelerated his dodge. Fast. For anyone else, it would have been fast enough.
Michael was faster.
His light sword traced a horizontal arc through the air, the blade leaving a trail of golden afterimages. Karacus raised both scaled arms to block, dragon hide reinforced with mana density and frost enhancement.
CLAAAANG.
The sound was obscene. Metal on metal, but deeper, resonating through Karacus’s bones. The force lifted him off his feet and sent him flying backward through two walls.
BOOM. CRASH.
Karacus’s body punched through a brick facade, tumbled through an interior space, and crashed out the opposite side in a shower of rubble. He skidded across a side street, frost sparking from his scales where friction met ice, and came to a stop against a toppled transport vehicle.
Kael was already above Michael. Shadow Step had carried him to a position directly overhead during the exchange, both Void Edge blades trailing darkness. In his right hand, a sphere of violent repulsive force spun and expanded.
Quasar.

He drove it down.
BOOM.
The Quasar orb struck Michael’s upraised wing shield and detonated. The repulsive force was absolute, pushing everything away from the point of impact with the power of a localized explosion. Michael’s wing shield cracked. The angelic armor on his shoulders buckled. His body was launched downward, slamming through the street surface and into the sewer infrastructure beneath, sending a geyser of broken concrete and water spraying into the air.
Kael landed on a chunk of rubble and watched the crater.
Silence. Three seconds. Five.
Then light blazed from the hole in the ground. Michael rose slowly, hovering, water and debris falling away from his body. The crack in his wing shield was closing, golden light knitting the feathers back together. The dent in his shoulder armor popped outward, reforming into its original shape. The small wound on his cheek from where a fragment had clipped him sealed itself and disappeared.
Healed and repaired in seconds.
Michael looked up at Kael and smirked.
"Interesting technique. But you’ll need more than that."
Kael’s jaw tightened. The Transcendent Core gave him mana reserves that dwarfed anyone at his rank, and the regeneration rate to sustain prolonged combat. But Michael’s angelic armor was something else entirely. It wasn’t just defense. It was active regeneration fueled by a bloodline that operated on principles Kael didn’t fully understand.
Kael launched himself forward, Shadow Step blinking him across the distance in an instant. Dark energy coated both blades as he activated the Sky Rending Technique, First Form: Falling Star. The diagonal slash descended toward Michael’s shoulder.
Michael’s light sword intercepted, but Kael had already Shadow Stepped again, appearing at Michael’s flank. Second Form: Shattered Moon. The interlocking geometric barrier of blade strikes forced Michael to raise both wings defensively.
CLANG-CLANG-CLANG-CLANG.
Kael pressed the attack, each form flowing into the next. Shadow Step between strikes. Darkness energy disrupting Michael’s light constructs. The Void Edge blades, Tier 1 weapons with void resonance, carved shallow lines in the angelic armor that healed almost as fast as they were made.
But Michael was countering. His light sword moved with precision that matched Kael’s Shadow Step speed, forcing him to use the technique not just for offense but for evasion. Every time Kael blinked to a new position, Michael’s blade was already there, adjusting, predicting.
Light clashed against darkness in a staccato rhythm that echoed through the ruined district.
CLANG. SWOOSH. PAM. CRACK. BOOM.
Karacus erupted from the rubble of his landing site, frost exploding outward from his body as he charged back into the fight. His entrance was announced by a cone of sub-zero air that flash-froze the ground between him and Michael.
"Frost Blast!"
The cone of frozen air slammed into Michael’s back. Ice crystallized across his wings, cracking feathers, slowing his movement for a crucial half-second.
Kael exploited it immediately. Shadow Step behind Michael. Third Form: Falling Crescent, inverted variation. The dark slash carved a line across the small of Michael’s back before the armor could fully respond.
Schlick.
Blood. Golden and luminous, spraying from a wound that the armor hadn’t fully protected. It healed in four seconds, but it was proof. Michael could be cut.

The 2v1 dynamic shifted. Karacus’s raw physical power and frost abilities forced Michael to split his attention. His wings couldn’t shield every angle simultaneously. Kael’s Shadow Step and lightning speed allowed him to exploit every gap Karacus created.
Kael started cycling through Sky Rending forms with increasing speed. Falling Star to create openings. Shattered Moon to force defenses. Falling Crescent to punish overextensions. Each form cost mana, but his Transcendent Core absorbed ambient mana even as he spent it, the 215% regeneration rate keeping his reserves stable.
He fired runes from his storage ring, pre-inscribed Barrier and Amplification coins that detonated in Michael’s proximity, creating overlapping fields of conflicting energy that disrupted the angelic armor’s repair function for seconds at a time.
But Michael adapted. He started moving faster, his wings generating thrust that made him a blur of golden light. Kael could only track him through a combination of Shadow Step repositioning and lightning-enhanced reflexes. Even then, Michael was landing hits. A light slash across Kael’s ribs that Shadow Armor absorbed. A wing buffet that sent him tumbling. A knee strike that cracked two of his runes before they could detonate.
Karacus was faring worse. The dragon-kin’s durability kept him in the fight, but Michael was targeting him specifically now, light sword carving lines across his scales that healed slower than Kael’s wounds. A punch to Karacus’s chest sent shockwaves through his body, cracking his sternum. A wing slam drove him through another building.
BOOM. CRASH.
Karacus flew farther this time, crashing through three structures before coming to rest in a park that had once been a green space and was now a frozen wasteland of dead trees and shattered benches.
Kael was alone.
Michael pressed the advantage with terrifying efficiency. Light sword slashed. Wing buffeted. Fist connected with Kael’s guard, sending him sliding backward across rubble.
PAM. PAM. CLANG.
Kael raised both hands. Rune barriers materialized in front of him, three layered defensive sigils that absorbed the next light strike. Behind the barriers, a gravity wall condensed into existence, a vertical plane of compressed gravitational force that slowed Michael’s approach.
Kael’s hands came together. Index and middle fingers crossed at the wrists.
Michael saw the hand sign. His smirk returned.
"A realm." Michael said the name like he’d been waiting for it.
"Realm of Darkness," Kael murmured, "Darker than Black."
Darkness exploded outward. The complete removal of the concept of illumination from a fifty-meter sphere. The world inside went black. Sound died. Spatial manipulation within the domain became unstable.
Michael didn’t panic. His hands moved, forming a sign of his own. Light gathered around him, not fighting the darkness but coexisting with it, pushing against it from within.
"Realm of Infinite Light," Michael said, his voice carrying a reverent weight that Kael hadn’t heard before. "Final Ray of Hope."
Light erupted from inside the Realm of Darkness. Not from outside trying to break in, but from a point within Michael’s body, expanding outward like a sun being born. The two domains met at their boundary, light and darkness grinding against each other with a sound like tearing reality.
CRACK. CRACK. CRACK-CRACK-CRACK.
The clash lasted 2.3 seconds. Both domains shattered simultaneously, the Realm of Darkness fragmenting into dissipating shadows while the Realm of Infinite Light burst into fading golden sparks. The backlash hit both users like a physical blow.
Blood dripped from Kael’s nose. Michael’s nose bled too, golden droplets falling from his chin.
Less than five seconds had passed since Kael had formed the first hand sign.

His hands were already moving again. Crossing. Fingers interlocking. A different sign, sharper, more aggressive.
"Dark Summon."
The shadow beneath Kael’s feet split open. Darkness poured out like liquid, coiling, condensing, taking shape. A massive wolf crawled from the shadow, standing three meters tall on hind legs. Its body was covered in black fur that seemed to absorb light, and white runes pulsed across its skin like veins of frozen moonlight. Its eyes burned with a deep crimson glow, and its jaws, when they opened, revealed teeth that were blacker than its fur.
A divine wolf.
The wolf straightened to its full height beside Kael, dark demonic energy rolling off its body in waves that made the air taste like ash.
Kael wiped the blood from his nose with the back of his hand and looked at Michael with a smirk that had survived domain backlash, nosebleeds, and a fight that should have killed him twice over.
"Do you think this was a 2v1?" Kael said with a smirk. "No. Think again."
Karacus landed beside him, frost crackling off his scales, his sternum already knitting back together through dragonic regeneration. The wolf stood on Kael’s other side, runes pulsing, demonic energy churning.
"It’s a 3v1."
Michael looked at the three of them. The bleeding dragon-kin who sealed to be healing already. The dark-summoned divine wolf with its sealed Mana Heart Rank 3 aura. And Kael Vorn, whose mana reserves shouldn’t have been able to support all of this but somehow were.
Michael wiped the golden blood from his nose with his thumb and examined it for a moment. Then he smiled.
"Three against one," he said quietly. "Now that is interesting."
