Chocolate de Familia 5

Second match.

“Sōma-san, Sōma-san, I pressed the trigger button, but no bullets were coming out. Why could that be? I’m sure I picked up the bullets properly.”

She comes over from the other side of the table and shows me the smartphone screen.

“The gun and the bullets don’t match. The weapon Chika is using requires 9mm bullets, but you picked up 7.32mm bullets.”

“I can’t tell the types of bullets in the heat of the moment.”

“Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it eventually.”

“Ugh, I’ll do my best.”

Frustrated, she returned to her original position again.

Third match.

“Sōma-san, Sōma-san, now the bullets are coming out, but I’m not hitting anything at all. What should I do?”

“How about turning on aim assist? It supports you in aligning your aim.”

“That sounds good. How do I do it?”

“It should be in the options menu.”

“What? Where is it?”

“It’s somewhere in there.”

“Ugh!”

Focusing on controlling her character and saying random things, Chika got impatient and finally sat down next to him.

“H-hey…”

Too close. Very, very close.

They are so close that their shoulders almost touch.

“Where is the aim something-something option?”

“Ah, that is…”

As requested, he brought up the options screen and turned on the aim assist.

“With this, I can perform better! Alright, let’s go to the next battle!”

Saying this with a raised fist, she doesn’t try to return to her original seat.

“Hey, your seat is over there, right?”

“There seem to be more things I need to ask, and it’s bothersome to move every time.”

“Well, that might be true, but…”

The distance between the two has become uncomfortably close.

Perhaps Chika has no ulterior motive.

But for Sōma, it’s too close.

Their shoulders touch, her hair tickles, and they can hear each other’s breath. They can even feel each other’s body heat.

If there were a male high school student who wouldn’t feel nervous in this situation, they would either be emotionally detached or have some significantly peculiar tastes.

And Sōma is neither of those.

‘Calm down…! Stay calm…!’

While pretending to be composed, he tap the trigger button on his smartphone.

If Chika notices that his heart is pounding, she’ll definitely tease him. It’s a situation he wants to avoid at all costs.

“Wow, my attacks are hitting now! I might win with this!”

“That’s right—”

Chika, completely unaware of Sōma’s feelings, happily raises their voice, and Sōma responds with appropriate agreement, trying not to show their agitation.

“Sōma-san, you’re quite skilled even without using the aim something-something.”

“I play quite a lot of similar games, that’s why.”

It’s alright. I’m feeling calm. I definitely look normal.

After a few more matches, let’s end the game naturally.

If I do that, it’ll be okay.

‘Stay calm, be composed, and keep a cool head’, repeating those words like a spell, he shoots bullets at the enemy players appearing on the screen.

“Wow, amazing! There are hardly any enemies left. If we defeat one more, we’ll win!”

Chika cheers excitedly, and at that moment, the last enemy appears on the smartphone screen.

“This should be the end.”

Declaring so, he aims at the enemy and firmly taps the trigger button.

That should have been the end of the game.

“Huh?!”

No matter how many times I tap the smartphone, no bullets are fired.

In a panic, he tries pressing various buttons, but the muzzle remains silent.

“Is it out of bullets?”

As pointed out, he checked the remaining ammunition displayed as a blinking zero in the lower right corner.

“Darn it!”

The enemy won’t wait leisurely for me to reload right in front of them.

The character he control, shot with a barrage of bullets, dies.

“Ah, my bad. I made a mistake.”

Apologizing, he casually tries to move on to the next match.

However, Chika keeps staring at him with a suspicious look and doesn’t tap the ready button.

“Ch-Chika?”

“Why do you make such a pretty basic mistake?”

He feels nervous under her doubtful gaze.

“I-it was just a coincidence. I’m not a hardcore gamer, so these things happen.”

“Is that so? It didn’t seem like a careless mistake to me.”

“It’s my first time playing this game, okay?”

“But you boasted about playing a lot of FPS games, didn’t you?”

“I didn’t exactly boast about it…”

While making excuses, he tries to focus on the smartphone screen.

“Hmm?”

However, Chika’s attention seems to have shifted from the game to his suspicious behavior, and she keeps staring at him from various angles.

The room is comfortably air-conditioned, yet an uncomfortable sweat trickles down his back.

“Sōma-san, isn’t your face turning red?”

“It’s just your imagination.”

He assert strongly, trying not to look at Chika.

“Your ears are red.”

“You’re mistaken.”

Chika reaches for my wrist.

“Your pulse is fast.”

“I have a Tachycardia.”

Chika flips up Sōma’s shirt.

“You’re sweating on your back?”

“Don’t casually sexually harass me!”

Sōma throws his smartphone aside and tries to hold down the hem of his shirt, but it’s already a futile action.

“Because we’re so close, you’re feeling nervous, huh, Sōma-san?”

Chika accurately discerns the cause and smiles mischievously, looking pleased with herself.

“Hey, I’ve been meaning to say this for a while, but sometimes your sense of personal space is broken.”

Sōma tries to make a pathetic excuse, blaming Chika instead of himself.

However, before he can do so, Chika bows her head.

“You are absolutely right. I’m sorry. I’m always sticking to Miki-chan, so I got too close to you using that sense. It’s not good, huh? I’ll be more careful from now on.”

“Uh, yeah…?”

He is unexpectedly caught off guard by her remarkably sensible attitude.

What, even she can be considerate?

But that thought lasts only briefly.

“Leaving that aside, Sōma-san, you look very cute right now.”

“…Huh?”

“Take this!”

With the innocence of a child knocking down lined-up dominoes, Chika pushes Sōma forward, and completely unguarded, Sōma can’t resist and is easily toppled over.

In a blink of an eye, he sees the ceiling, and Chika’s face immediately dominates his field of view.
