Chapter 1397: Chapter 1396: The Emperor’s Plan
Bu Chen chuckled and said, "Mr. Su sounds a bit too formal. If you don’t mind, I’ll just call you Changfeng."
Su Changfeng raised an eyebrow, he wasn’t aware their relationship had advanced enough to drop the formalities. Yet, this revealed the Emperor’s attitude; clearly, the Emperor sent people not to cause trouble this time.
"I didn’t know Elder Bu was coming; I hope you won’t be offended," Su Changfeng said.
Bu Chen chuckled and said graciously, "Changfeng, you’re too polite."
"Is there any particular reason for Elder Bu’s visit?" Su Changfeng asked directly, cutting to the chase.
Bu Chen was pleased with Su Changfeng’s straightforwardness and took him aside, as these were orders from the Emperor, meant only for Su Changfeng’s ears.
"Quite mysterious, what is this old man up to?" Wang Junyi complained a bit discontentedly; he had intended to hear Bu Chen’s purpose, but Bu Chen pulled Su Changfeng aside, clearly avoiding him on purpose.
"Regardless of their intent, Changfeng Sect shouldn’t be threatened by Chenguang Hall," Chen Qingqing stated, having grasped the rules of sect creation, knowing one must get the Emperor’s approval, but Changfeng Sect’s establishment hadn’t notified the Emperor beforehand.
Initially, Chen Qingqing was somewhat worried, but unexpectedly, the Emperor sent people to Fengming City, suggesting her concerns might be unfounded.
"What do you mean?" Wang Junyi, unable to grasp the underlying issue, asked puzzled after listening to Chen Qingqing.
"Do you understand what intelligence means?" Chen Qingqing suddenly asked, looking at him.
"Of course I do," Wang Junyi nodded seriously.
"Unfortunately, you don’t possess it," Chen Qingqing said.
Meanwhile, Bu Chen said to Su Changfeng, "The Emperor has agreed to let you establish a sect in Fengming City and intends to support Changfeng Sect."
"Really?" Su Changfeng smiled wryly, genuinely surprised. He had thought the Emperor might take issue with him over this, but the reaction turned out differently.
However, Su Changfeng wasn’t naive, knowing the Emperor’s favorable attitude wasn’t simply good-willed.
"Does the Emperor have any other requests?" Su Changfeng asked.
"With the sect developing, Xingluo will benefit too, and the Emperor supports this," Bu Chen said.
Su Changfeng nodded, understanding the rationale and asked, "You said the Emperor intends to support Changfeng Sect. How does he plan to do that?"
"With Changfeng Sect newly established, you’re likely short on personnel, so the Emperor plans to send people to serve as elders, helping to train disciples. They’ve been carefully selected, each powerful, and will soon arrive in Fengming City. You needn’t worry," Bu Chen explained.
Su Changfeng couldn’t help but snicker inwardly; sending people as elders was just a means to plant spies within Changfeng Sect. Without consulting him, they’d already dispatched people, leaving no room for refusal.
Quite a commendable support!
Su Changfeng kept the cold laughter inside, while outwardly he spoke lightly, "If that’s the case, many thanks to the Emperor for his efforts. I was worried, but the Emperor alleviated my difficulties. Please thank the Emperor on my behalf when you return."
"Consider it done," Bu Chen chuckled, a hint of guilt flashing in his eyes.
Afterward, Bu Chen returned to Fengming City, unaware of any emotional change in Su Changfeng during their conversation, knowing well that Su Changfeng was skilled in concealment.
He understood the Emperor’s plans thoroughly. Su Changfeng didn’t reject outright, implying he was cautious of Chenguang Hall.
But was Su Changfeng truly afraid?
Certainly not, but with Changfeng Sect’s nascent stage, he had no intentions to break ties with Chenguang Hall swiftly.
"Brother Changfeng, what’s wrong?" noticing Su Changfeng’s displeased expression, Chen Qingqing couldn’t help asking.
Wang Junyi quickly perked up, afraid to miss any key information.
"The Emperor has allowed me to establish a sect and promises to support it, sending people as elders to train disciples," Su Changfeng said.
Upon hearing this, Wang Junyi’s eyes widened.
This treatment was exceedingly favorable; unexpectedly, Changfeng Sect was esteemed enough to warrant the Emperor’s attention.
"Master, you’re truly remarkable! Changfeng Sect stands out among other sects with such imperial favor, a fortune other sects might never attain," Wang Junyi said excitedly.
Chen Qingqing, listening, naturally didn’t share Wang Junyi’s naive excitement, discerning the Emperor’s motives.
"Brother Changfeng, have you agreed?" Chen Qingqing asked.
"Aunt, what kind of question is that? It’s a tremendously good thing! My master surely agreed," Wang Junyi said with helplessness towards Chen Qingqing’s muddlement during crucial moments; an opportunity like this demands immediate acceptance.
Su Changfeng and Chen Qingqing glared at Wang Junyi, wondering when he’d become wiser.
"Wh-what’s wrong? Did I say something incorrect?" Wang Junyi, noting their disappointed gaze, asked sheepishly.
"You deny being a fool," Chen Qingqing rolled her eyes exasperatedly.
"Master, what does this mean?" Wang Junyi asked, puzzled.
"Sending people as elders, don’t you think the Emperor does it out of goodwill? He intends to plant spies in our sect," Su Changfeng explained.
Upon hearing, Wang Junyi finally realized if the Emperor meant that, it definitely was not a favorable situation. Any affairs within Changfeng Sect would be easily exposed to the Emperor.
"Master, I didn’t expect the Emperor to be so scheming," Wang Junyi said, irritated.
Regarding Wang Junyi’s slow realization, Su Changfeng and others had conceded to resignation.
"Brother Changfeng, what are your plans?" Chen Qingqing asked.
"Given the circumstances, just as it is. His tolerance up to this point likely marks a boundary; if I don’t comply, Changfeng Sect’s future development might struggle; accept now and address later," Su Changfeng said.
Progressing thus far, they could only take it one step at a time.
