Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Casting a Flirtatious Glance
Susan Caldwell was already furious about owing Vera Xavier ten million and was in no mood to deal with the street vendor. She called the police directly, claiming he was trying to extort her. After the police took the vendor away, she assumed the matter was over and dragged Irene Jensen to a teahouse to relax.
But she was only halfway through her tea when the vendor’s family, who had somehow rounded up a group of thugs, stormed into the teahouse demanding compensation.
At first, she tried to speak to them patiently. Unexpectedly, most of the vendor’s family didn’t speak or understand Mandarin. She had no idea which of her words had offended them, but they suddenly rushed forward to attack her.
They’d even managed to scratch her face. If Leo Wright hadn’t desperately protected her, the consequences would have been unthinkable.
If Rona Langdon had been in this situation, she would have known how to throw a tantrum and make a scene. But Susan Caldwell had grown up pampered and privileged; no matter the problem, she usually only needed to say a few words to make it go away. This was the first time she had ever faced something like this, and she had no idea how to handle it.
Moreover, Leo Wright had injured his hand, which severely compromised his ability to fight. He could no longer protect her properly. She had already called the police, but they still hadn’t arrived.
When Susan Caldwell turned her head and saw Vera Xavier standing there, the look on her face was a sight to behold. ’Anyone can see me in this pathetic state, but not Vera Xavier! Not her!’ But at that moment, she was powerless to stop it.
She was livid. Suddenly remembering something, she yelled, "Direwolf, aren’t you a soldier? These vicious commoners are rioting! Aren’t you going to do something?"
After speaking, she looked at Nathaniel Nathan expectantly, clinging to him as her last hope. After all, she had seen his skills the day before. She was certain that if he stepped in, he could easily take care of these mud-legs and thugs who were trying to extort her.
To her dismay, Nathaniel Nathan acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing. She grew desperate and shouted again, "If you get me out of this, I’ll tell my dad what happened today! He’ll definitely give you a major promotion. You’ll have a boundless future and will never have to risk your life on a mission again!"
This was her trump card. She rarely made such promises, but she was saying it now for two reasons: one, she was in real danger, and two, she had genuinely taken an interest in Nathaniel Nathan.
She believed that any ambitious man would seize the opportunity when she extended an olive branch.
But to Nathaniel Nathan, her little scheme was an absolute joke.
Nathaniel Nathan didn’t just stand there motionless; his eyes grew even colder, filled with a bone-chilling frost. The very sight of her made him feel sick.
Leo Wright, who was still protecting her, paled when he heard her offer. He had been by her side for several years and knew her personality better than anyone. He understood exactly what her words implied, and a pang of bitterness shot through him. He unconsciously clenched his jaw.
Susan Caldwell thought he hadn’t heard her, so she shouted his name and repeated her offer. She stopped just short of explicitly saying, ’If you help me this time, I’ll give myself to you!’
Vera Xavier nudged Nathaniel Nathan lightly with her elbow. "Looks like Susan Caldwell is making eyes at you."
Nathaniel Nathan immediately reached out and covered her eyes. "Why are you looking at someone so disgusting? You’ll taint your eyes."
