Chapter 176: Chapter 176: Assassin
Sitting on the Wolf Beast, traveling for two whole days, Wen Shu, with a cub, felt fatigued despite how comfortable the seat was.
She changed her posture, leaning against the armrest for ventilation, fingers pinching the veil to cover her face, in case she ran into acquaintances.
It turned out her actions were wise.
Flowing effortlessly into Bain City from the crowded waves of people, shortly thereafter, the carriage belonging to Queen Niss of the Yisha Empire abruptly halted ahead.
"Yuna, come here."
Yuna responded promptly.
At the moment the carriage curtain swung open, Wen Shu’s keen eyes caught sight of a middle-aged female wearing a golden crown, stunningly beautiful, while engaging in pleasantries with Queen Niss.
And behind that dazzling female, seated gracefully inside the carriage, donned in a snow-colored dress, was none other than Bai Qiao.
Compared to their last meeting, her complexion appeared much rosier, accompanied by two strikingly handsome unfamiliar males at her side.
"Guli," Queen Niss pulled Yuna to introduce her to Queen Guli, "this is Yuna, is she your daughter?"
"Yuna has grown so tall!"
"This is Bai Qiao, a new Holy Temple Apprentice under Priest Bona; her fashion designs are remarkable, so I keep her close. Later, perhaps Qiaoqiao can design one for you too..."
The veil gently fell.
Wen Shu pricked her ears to listen to their exchanges, seeking to gather more information.
Later, however, they mainly discussed clothing and national governance issues.
Wen Shu pondered thoughtfully, sorting out her thoughts.
If her speculation was correct, Bai Qiao had already recovered and gained the legacy of the Divine Tree. As for the two beside her...
Perhaps, they’re new male protagonists?
After all, the story’s main line centers around the female protagonist, so it’s not impossible for other characters to be replaced...
Yet many things made no sense.
If others could be replaced, why did "Wen Shu" have to die?
Wen Shu, full of doubts, was eager to find Yining, but despite searching through the crowd for a long time, she couldn’t glimpse his figure.
Until she followed the Queen into the residential area, lowered the veil, when the deliberately elongated lazy voice reached her ears.
"Who were you just looking for? Want to get off the ride and find them?"
Wen Shu turned stiffly back.
She saw Luo Fei’s eyes curve, resembling a generous husband, asking with a squint: "I can accompany you, hmm?"
"Uh..."
Before she could speak, Luo Fei suddenly leaned forward, pulling her into his arms, leaping off the Wolf Beast’s back.
Wen Shu was startled, worried Bai Qiao would recognize her, she grabbed Luo Fei’s collar, burying her face in his chest.
Aware of her action, Luo Fei slowed his pace as he entered the castle, savoring her proactive "reliance".
Wu Xuan ran ahead to catch up, disapprovingly, "Luo Fei, why are you running so fast, you’ll scare Ashu!"
He reached to grab, Luo Fei avoided steadily, leisurely taking two steps, raising his brows, "You’ve carried her plenty of days, it’s my turn now, plus I’m holding her steadily."
Luo Fei lightly bounced Wen Shu in his arms, "Not convinced, see for yourself?"
He always spoke annoyingly, Wu Xuan couldn’t be bothered, stepped forward to open the robe covering Wen Shu, softly asked, "Ashu, how do you feel?"
With one tug, Wen Shu looked up to see, at the castle’s iron gates, the two nations’ queens discussing a dinner meeting, walking into the castle.
She grabbed Luo Fei’s collar, with a serious expression, "Quick, find a room, avoid meeting them."
Wu Xuan followed her gaze back, spotting Bai Qiao’s familiar figure, understood her intent.
"Hurry!"
The trio quickly entered the castle, choosing a guest room at the very end of the top floor, very secluded.
After making the bed, night fell silently.
Wen Shu lay on the window sill finishing dinner, lowering her eyes to see downstairs through floor-to-ceiling windows, the sprawling brilliant lights, along with figures dancing to music.
The gentle music made the mood relaxed, Wen Shu patted her hands, readied the bathtub with hot water, prepared to wash away the fatigue of these days.
"If anything arises, call me."
Leaving that sentence, she shut the bathroom door tight, stepped into the hot water, feeling her pores being ironed all over.
Thinking about the growing heaviness in her abdomen, she couldn’t sleep, resting her arms on the bucket edge, planning to get out soon.
Yet right then, sudden chaotic footsteps echoed from the downstairs living room.
"Protect the Majesty!"
"Guards! Where are the guards? Someone is attempting to assassinate the Queen!"
The screeching screamed relentlessly, followed by the clanging of heavy armor, sending ripples across the water surface.
Something’s happened.
Wen Shu’s jaw tensed momentarily, grabbed clothes to rise, but behind came a light "creak".
Immediately, cold fierce winds attacked her drenched back.
She shuddered slightly from the cold, scarcely reacted before a chilling blade pressed against her tender white neck.
Wen Shu tightly clenched her clothes, veins popping, striving to slow her breathing, fearing the person behind would mercilessly slit her throat.
"Speak calmly, I can help you..."
She softened her tone, yet that frosty edge pushed harder instead, "Don’t move."
At the ache spreading slightly, a clear voice rang icily behind her.
This voice... sounded somewhat familiar.
Wen Shu’s tightly holding hand relaxed slightly, then quietly clenched again.
Impossible, if it were him, how could he not recognize her voice and back?
As the thought flashed in her mind, the male beast grabbed the tub edge, the cold white slender hand just beside her arm.
"Which superpower?"
The slightly bloody cold breath brushed past her neck, raising goosebumps.
Wen Shu kept a blank face, shivering, "Don’t, don’t kill me, I’m with the Healing System..."
Seemingly satisfied with her response, the claws withdrew slightly from her neck.
The hand resting on the tub edge lazily raised, succinctly ordered, "Don’t think of tricks, heal."
"Alright..."
Wen Shu’s peripheral vision scanned the ground, noticing the shadow completely covering her.
Judging the assassin’s rough position, she obediently raised her hand, but a slip nearly had her fall onto his claws.
"Ah—"
Her reflexively raised hand tried grabbing his hand at her neck, unexpected as the assassin showed some conscience, hurriedly withdrew his arm.
Wen Shu lightly raised an eyebrow, drew effort internally, spun to grab the assassin’s arm, and fiercely threw him into the bathtub!
"Splash" sounded, water splattered across the floor.
She seized the opportunity, pulled his arm back, grabbed the assassin’s arm behind him, efficiently suppressed him against the tub edge.
"You picked the wrong person."
Blood droplets spread across the water, the male beast feebly propping himself, his light brown long hair sticking to the soaked black robe.
Looking at his familiar back, Wen Shu furrowed, reached to turn his face, fingertips touching cold hard material.
A mask?
Her heart tightened, twisted his defiantly resisting face, breath halting for several seconds.
Under the glazed lamplight, a cold glowing silver mask completely wrapped the male beast’s face.
And those clean and cool amber glowing eyes were so familiar.
Is it Nan?
